Discrimination (Hey, do you HAVE to own a BMW to join??? That's discrimination against us po' folks, and if you're going to practice it then you'd better be prepared to either cough up a bike for me to own so's I can join, or be prepared to offer through the government a plan to put me on an equal footing, bike-wise, so's I can join, or else waive your damn requirement. And you aren't going to deny me membership just because I like a coupla beers before I get on the bike, are you???): $3,000,000 3. Sexual harrassment: $4,000,000 Whadda ya mean things are gettin' a little raunchy around the campfire?? You got somethin' against a little "show your tits" competition now and then?? Hey, you don't like sexual comments about children around the campfire, you oughtta just not listen, right??? Geez, what are you, some kinda faggot or somepin'?? Bet you're probably gonna complain if I happen to "get lucky" at one of the campouts or rallies when my wife isn't there, too. Sheesh.... 4. Reckless endangerment. $6,000,000 Hey, you assholes invited me along on this ride and then went through the twisties lickety-split. How the hell was I supposed to know that I couldn't take those curves as fast as you?? It's all your fault that my bike's trashed and I broke two pinkies and a toe, and I demand that you reimburse me for all of it, along with pain and suffering for the horrible shock and trauma I endured from discovering that I could be over my head, riding-wise, in the motorcycling equivalent of a wading pond. You shouldn't have damaged my psyche that way. Make it $7,000,000. Well, I could go on and on. I mean, there's the time that you guys made me a cuppa espresso in camp and didn't even serve it in a decent demitasse cup. That ought be against some kinda cultural preservation law, or somethin', and I bet I can sue you for it. Oh yeah, and for not having a proper assortment of dijon to go with the brats. And speaking of the brats, which one of you guys had the food handler's permit to make that little cookout legal?? Betcha the health department is gonna want to hear from me! Well, as I said I could go on and on. I'd tell you all about it at the campout at Victor this weekend, 'cept I won't be there 'cause my lawyer thinks it's not a good idea for me to associate with you guys until all the lawsuits are settled. Besides, I gotta put another coat of wax on the Crooooooozer and buff up some of the new leather and satin aluminum accessories I bought to go with it. Think I'll mebbe ride down to the bar and talk with some of the guys about what a kick butt time we had draggin' mains last weekend..... Besides, I'm just kinda kickin' back until my lawyer gets done straightening you guys out so that you'll start providing the kind of club experience I expected for my 15 bux. Geez, you shoulda known that I'd come after you guys for fraud once I found out that life in the real club wasn't even close to what I had envisioned when I paid the money. I am acting Vice President of the Club, a member of the Executive Board, and club interface for the Trials events on Thursday September 16th (I am also a proud Beehive Beemer). So, while with my executive board hat on I want to encourage BB members to volunteer for any segment of the Park City Motor Cycle Week event for which they have interest, my own interest is selfish. We need observers, judges, gate managers etc. for the Trials events. I have had requests from club's out of state to participate as volunteers for this event, however, before we confirm that source, we'd like to ensure that our Utah Club's have first and full opportunity to participate. So, I'll tout the Trials in this note. Details of how to volunteer are found on the club's website: www.parkcitymotorcycle.org. But, here's a digest as it pertains to the Trials volunteer. For a free pass for the remainder of the week - including motocross, flat track, and road race a trials volunteer must: 1. Attend a Wednesday evening barbeque. 2. Post/during barbeque - receive training on how to judge a trials event 3. Optional - pre barbeque - attend trials clinic put on by AHRMA (great opportunity) 4. Work 8 hours on Thursday assisting AHRMA judge events, manning gates etc. (lunch, drinks for the day provided). I think this is a real "two-fer." On the one hand a free pass to three of the four major events for the week. On the other hand, a volunteer gets to build a knowledge of the whole Trials discipline. Its fascinating. I walked the 12 sections of the Steamboat venue last year. I've also found getting acquainted with our local Trials community - CZ Bob in Logan, Dave Wand at Rimrock Racing, Brad Burnton, Head of Wasatch ials Assn. (still exchanging calls) and others as extremely interesting. Among others, I've found that a 275 pound 6''7" "oversized person" can ride one of these bikes. And, I'm interested! Mike Fenner of AHRMA wants to do an unprecedented 16 sections at Park City and expects a record 200 entrants from around the United States. HOW DO I VOLUNTEER? The volunteer signup sheet is on the website, along with procedures to enroll. If I'm up in Victor, I'll bring some forms. I want to personally keep track of the Trials volunteers so it is OK to fax them to me at 435 649 3951. I'll acknowledge receipt, and ensure you are properly registered. I will also add you to my Trials email broadcast list to keep you well informed of the issues, interesting facits, etc. of Motorcycle Week. I hope you can help out. Jeb/Tom, Thane suggested that if I can make it to Victor, you would give me a couple of minutes to tout this in person. I am happy to answer any questions via this list as well. PS. Thane said he wanted to sign up. This is a great opportunity to be a player in Utah's first major motorcycle event. We need your help! Ducati races on Ha= rley rumours, denies talks

By Sara Marani

MILAN, July 8 (Reuters) - Shares in luxury motorcycle maker Ducati rose sharply on Thursday on speculation another biking legend Harley Davidson (NYSE:HDI - news) was ready to make a bid, but the rally sputtered when Ducati denied there were talks.

Four months after the Italian company floated on the Milan bourse, Ducati saw its shares soar as much as six percent as investors pounced on a newspaper report that a tie-up between the two classic motorbike brands would make perfect sense.

``Neither Ducati nor its principal shareholder TPG have had any contacts with Harley Davidson concerning a possible acquisition of an interest in Ducati,'' Managing Director Federico Minoli said in a statement.

The remarks disappointed an Italian market buzzing with almost every kind of merger talk this year, sending Ducati shares back to close 1.2 percent up on the day at 2.95 euros.

But investors remain aware that Ducati has all but asked its transatlantic rival to knock at the door, telling markets an alliance between Ducati and Harley Davidson would be ideal.

``Our brands are so complementary that from every standpoint if Harley wanted to buy us, I don't think we could say no,'' Minoli told financial daily Il Sole in a recent interview.

On Thursday, the same paper reported rumours were rife on Wall Street that Harley Davidson could at last be interested in buying Ducati, which has a market value of $400 million.

There was no immediate comment from Milwaukee-based Harley.

Known as the Ferrari of motorcycling, Ducati was listed on the bourse after an oversubscribed public offering in March at a price of 2.9 euros.

But the shares have had a mixed ride since their debut when they got off to a slow start, swerving between 2.49 euros and 2.99 euros. Italian traders mostly express confidence the shares will perform, however, as one of Italy's few glamour stocks.

``It's a sexy name, everyone will want to own a bit of it,'' a Milan-based trader said following the initial public offering.

On the downside, traders say Ducati has been exposed to the economic crisis in Asia and that interest in the flotation had been hit by the partial seizure of Italian markets during a wave of complicated deals in telecoms and banking.

Founded in 1926, Ducati sells its high-speed racing-inspired motorcycles in more than 40 countries worldwide.

In the first quarter of 1999 Ducati saw its registrations rise 11 percent to 6,915 compared with the same period a year ago, and in key German and North American markets, units sold rose nearly 50 percent and 40 percent respectively.

At the company's stock market launch in Milan and New York Minoli said Ducati was planning to invest a ``significant'' amount of the money raised in expanding its accessories line and in May it opened its first North American showroom, featuring leather biking gear by top designer Donna Karan (NYSE:DK - news).

Harley's financial backing and dealer network would give Ducati a more solid footing in the everyday motorcycle market, while Ducati's lineup would give Harley something they've never been able to build for the mass market--a true sporting machine. It would take a while to straighten out the apparel and accessory end of the business, however. How do you spell "show your tits" in Italian on a tee- shirt??? Have you seen the latest recall notice??? They are recalling practically every machine built for a variety of problems. I watched Fran Crane try to haul one to the finish line in both the 1088 and the '97 Iron Butt. Mechanical DNF in both cases. As if that weren't enough, any decent Japanese sportbike built in this decade will run and hide from the Buell on a snaky road, and for 2/3 the money or less. No, they're not doing so hot IMHO. Apparently the rumors about Ducati being purchased by Harley stem from the fact that the Texas Pacific Group that bought Ducati several years ago, have sold 60% of their stock in an IPO. That stock is languishing and hence the fact that the whole company may be in play. Their sales last year were 323 million and about 20,000 bikes. They are also trying a la harley to increase the sales of associated merchandise, which is a lot more profitable than selling bikes. The article also mentioned that Ducati was looking at possibly trying to buy Guzzi, which would make more sense to me. It also has a comment from the Italian American head of Ducati that "We couldn't care less about comfort, We make you feel good". Bob Jensen would agree with that. If I had a scanner, I would be happy to scan the article for people, but I don't, I will however bring the article to Paonia for anyone that might be interested. I just wanted you to know that Vic had another heart attack today and is in Pioneer Valley Hospital in ICU at the moment. He is stabilized and doing OK. When I went to see him he was awake (sort of -- kind of groggy), and coherent -- he knew what he was saying. We were to go to Wellsville to a family reunion and he wasn't feeling well when he woke up. He decided to go anyway and we got as far as his mother's house on 10th East (in Salt Lake) and he looked pretty bad so I told him to take his mother's car and go back home and go to bed -- neither of us knew it was a heart attack. I went on up to Wellsville, and found out around 2 pm that he was in the hospital. All is well, though, right now -- I just wanted you to know. They'll probably keep him 2-3 days but he has progressed well even since he got there, so maybe they'll release him earlier than that. Hope you are well. Vic was moved to U of U Med Center yesterday so he could be where his cardiologist and records are. He was scheduled for a permanent defibrillator implant today, but they discovered an infection where the catheter to the temporary one had been, so have put it off for a day or so to try to get the infection cleared up. His is out of intensive care and has been moved to 4N, Room 410-1. He would be glad to see you. He hasn't been feeling too good today -- they gave him some sedation in preparation of the surgery, then called it off, so he's been groggy. I went up at Noon and stayed until I found out they were postponing it, then I went back to work. When I went back up after work, he was zonked -- I didn't want to wake him because he's had so much trouble trying to sleep. Racing car drivers have been doing this for years to limit their top field of vision. I have been using it as a glare reducer for years and it is effective. Several points to remember: 1. If you ever need to see out of that top third of your visor to see where you are going chances are you and at ground level looking for a place to stop or land. 2. Occaisionally when in high mountain touring areas I have to raise the visor to see those purple mountain majesties but it is worth it. 3. Plain old electrical tape can be had for 50' for two bucks 4. experiment with this and you will find it meets your needs. good hunting, Bob Carleson StewartCB@aol.com wrote: > No web site but a maybe? a toll free number...1-800-770-2689, > > Good Luck, Stew > > In a message dated 7/24/1999 7:49:48 PM Mountain Daylight Time, > viper421@gte.net writes: > > > Steve--I bought a tinted strip for $3.50 from Clycle Crafts in Indiana. > > Works great. Bend to Ontario gets a little boring alone with only the jackrabbits and antelope for company. Cashmere: I hear a lot of you are coming over, Sherfy and Myron left tues. Be great to see "the group". Also, last year, while waiting for my wife who was at one of those stores, I decided to take the bike (my GS) across the street to gas up - literally less than 100 yards. In that distance, I was busted by an Oregon HP trooper for violating OR's helmet law. My helmet was hanging from my mirror. Enjoy your trip to Stanley, everyone. Sorry I can't join. I signed up for another one of those endurance rallies, this time in CO. You could take a break at my house if you want. **************************************************************** The Beehive Beemers Internet Mailing List http://www.beehive-beemers.org **************************************************************** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Vince DiGaetano" Subject: BB: Jacket Date: 28 Jul 1999 07:52:06 -0700 If anyone is interested I am selling a leather Kilimanjaro three quarter length size 44 with liner.
