From: Subject: BB: Re: RT sighting Date: 01 Oct 2000 15:07:58 -0600 We've got one of these cruising SLC as well. Funny thing is I saw them both at the Sinclair bottom of Trappers about a month ago both attired the same shorts no helmets t-shirts, flip flops. One kid had his girlfriend with him also similarly attired. The one in SLC is arctic silver and the one from Weber Co. was black strange thing is I don't believe they knew each other. I love it ! The retractable built in sun shade and removable head liner are killer ! I have used the BMW system helmets , starting with system 1 through system 4 since 1984 and loved each one of them . As many of you know BMW= has refused to allow Schulberth , the company that makes the System helme= ts , to sell to us ( USA ) because of liability concerns . I was reading the mail on an interesting list a few months ago and found the web site for the Concept helmet by Schuberth and two or three testimonials from riders= that have them , so I contacted the London based company , Chilli's , and asked if they would ship too the = ( Law suit infested ) USA ? .....No problem they replied ! so I gave them= my size and card # . Five days and $345.00 later it was in my hands , the= fit and finish is the same as the System except for the - one finger ,or thumb in this case , release on the left side of= the screen .It's very quite for retractable and very comfortable . If you= r familiar with the sizing of BMW helmets the Concept is the same , or you can hold your middle finger along your eye brow -fa= ce the mirror and have someone measure the circumference of your head just above the finger and Chilli's will size it for you , fyi, DeVern said he couldn't find a tape long enough? = Check em out @ =3D http://ds.dial.pipex.com/chilli/products/concept/01.ht= m = Oh....btw/ The Battle ax 020's have saved me one set of tires this summer= , great ware , predictable and like all good rubber ....."Takes the fear out of being close" .....great tire !! It shredded about 4 a.m. on I 94 about 150 miles west of Fargo, ND on the fifth day of the 7 day Butt Lite Rally. Without getting into too many details, I was very lucky to have gotten the bike stopped without having been spit off. Really sucked. I had picked up a nail somewhere around Aladdin, Wy and it had been plugged. Inflated to 39 psi, checked it twice in the next 300 miles, and it was holding steady at 42 psi (normal growth when it heated up). About 50 miles after I last checked the inflation, the tire just went to pieces. No wallowing or any other signs of under inflation. The entire right side of the tire separated, like someone took a band saw to it, about an inch above the rim. Picutes of the tire can be seen at the following web site. WWW.TEAMSTRANGE.COM When yo get into the site, go to "Butt Lite Information." From there go to "photo album" and then to "checkpoint three." there are three pictures of the tire taken as my bike was being hauled into the the rally checkpoint at Ma's Cycle in Fargo. I had brief exchanges with Bridgestone, and they flatly insist that I ran the tire under inflated, even though they have not seen it. Other than that, I loved the tire, as long as it was sort of round and in one piece. The ads on the radio saying that it is open are wrong. I ride past it everyday and stopped on Friday and asked the crew. They said maybe another week and "when you see the road striped then it will be open". It might be an interesting ride and as soon as I find out I'll post here. I'd prefer that Trappers was the way it used to be before the land swap but things change. It's a new road to check out anyway. On another note regarding the roads in my neighborhood, they are going to close Ogden Canyon to all but residents starting October the 26th. I don't know how long that will be for yet. The coverage I saw this morning showed them pulling out of a parking lot. About 35 bikes were visible and they were all brand new BMWs and it looked like every model was represented. In typical CNN fashion they didn't say much and didn't mention BMW at all. They also didn't say how much riding experience Hutten has. From what little I've found on the net I can find no mention of the bikes they were riding or who supplied them. Lots of them though. The first thing I spotted was the "unique" head light arrangement of several R1100Ss and then the panned across the gathering noted that they were all on Beemers. This link has a bit more detail. No crash details though. http://www.cnn.com/2000/SHOWBIZ/Arts/10/22/hutton.crash.ap/index.html Ron Wheeler Eden, Utah **************************************************************** The Beehive Beemers Internet Mailing List http://www.beehive-beemers.org **************************************************************** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: FlyinBrian Subject: [Fwd: BB: Lauren Hutten crashed a Beemer yesterday] Date: 23 Oct 2000 20:32:07 -0600 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------1CDF0D5D9692A4433D7D138F Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit --------------1CDF0D5D9692A4433D7D138F Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000 Message-ID: <39F4F0A9.C451900C@sisna.com> X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.5 [en]C-BP951 (Win95; U) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 References: <001301c03d52$41d0f600$a07a3fd1@compaq> Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="------------A1175F388E6BAEDAEBBFA761" This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------A1175F388E6BAEDAEBBFA761 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I was at the crash site within fifteen minutes of the accident. I happened upon it on my way to Las Vegas for the weekend. Here are some details for you. It was a promotional ride put on by the Venetian Hotel and Casino. They will be hosting The Art of the Motorcycle Exhibition in about a year, for 6 months. The hotel invited people from the motorcycle industry, from all over the world, as well as celebrities. I was able to get the info from one of my friends that was there from BMW of North America as well as a conversation I had with Jocylen, one of Yamahas female road racers ( she is also Rich Oliver's fiance, he was also there). The ride was Hutton's first road ride. If you saw the same footage as I did, it was clear that she was not very experienced. She suffered a broken leg, a broken arm, and a punctured lung. She also had severe road rash on her face. The bike she crashed on was a GS 650 Funduro, it was trashed. There were also some Yamahas on the ride, but the majority of bikes were BMW's The accident happened about 5 miles from Overton Beach, heading towards Las Vegas. The road had a slight curve to it at the point of the crash. The speed limit is 50mph, they were doing about 60mph. The first helicopter that they tried to get her out on had a problem and could not take flight, a second Life Flight helicopter had to be flown in. The rest of the ride was cancelled. I also heard she was wearing a helmet. It must have been open-faced though from the sounds of the injuries you describe. I wonder if she'll own up to her inexperience if it turns out that it played a part in her misfortune. I wish her the best as I would anyone in that situation but I'll be interested to see how it plays out in the media. It was red and possibly a R11RS but it was a hard call because I had to pay attention to traffic as I was turning left (piloting the cage) to cross the dam. Just wondering if this gent(first impression says it was a dude) is a lister. Cheers!
