The picture is of the BMW billboard across the street from the HD factory. Who says BMW doesn't have a sense of humor? www.wiscbmwclub.com/BMWsign.jpg I was able to visit the Sturgis rally last week (only spent one day). It was my first time at Sturgis and I was surprised at the contrast between a BMW rally and a "cruiser" rally. The contrast was more than the extreme bike noise and crowds. I was surprised at the number of motorcycles broken down on the side of the road, the generally poor riding skills of the cruiser crowd (any time a bunch of riders make my riding skills look good is frightening), and lack of helmet/body armor/clothes in general. It was fun to visit Rushmore, Devils Tower, Crazy Horse, and Wall Drug, but I was very glad to put the noise and cruiser crowd in my rear view mirror. It is still hot in Logan. We will have a course official on board and will patrol the bicycle leg of the race. Those of you who have done such riding in the past know how rewarding it is and event organizers usually take good care of us. This event will be no exception. Also since this is not an Ironman length triathlon we won't be needed all day. Plan to be on course from around 9:00a.m. until about noon. The popular Jordanelle Triathlon features both the sprint distance (75k swim/14 mile bike/5k run) and Olympic distance (1.5k swim/40k bike/10k run) competitions. There is an event cap of 500 participants. The main body of participants originates from Utah, but nearly all the states in the Intermountain region are represented. If you are interested in joining the fun give me a call or email preferably by Thursday.
