We have to have one more approval from the city for our special events permit (police, fire, chamber bureau are already online). I will hopefully be able to make an official announcemnt at the next meeting. We figure the ten of us directly involved (Park City Motorcycle Club) steering committee have put in over 800 hours to bring this event to Utah. The club now has 150 paid members but we will be asking for volunteers from all the Utah motorcycle clubs to help us put on the event. Rick has always told me that have always been an optomist, but although enthusiastic, I had my reservations on about pulling this thing off. One of my biggest concerns were the residents directly affected by the road races. Some of us did a door to door canvasing of the neighborhood, giving out well written 6 page information sheet-and not only did we not have any complaints-some of the residents asked if they could volunteer! This was really the last hurdle that I could see for getting this thing done. Dick Mann and Jeff Smith from AHRMA should be here next week to give us final approval (we already have a letter of intent from AHRMA). Answer the following questioins: > >1. Which rider will run out of gas first? Ans. Since Beehive Beemer Nominal approximates Warp 10, even faster than V'ger was able to achieve, energy consumption for the K12RS and the R1100S will cause liquid fuel exhaustion for the riders, Bobster, his Highness, and Critonian, 555 not SSS, long before plasma deprivation of even dilithium crystal fracturing. Thus the essential liquid imbibement of the forementioned intergalactic, actually inter-universe, travelers will overpower any significance of the prior question. While significant for equipment range, The real answer for this question is actually the answer for No. 3. (See Below) >2. Where will the first rider run out of gas?? Ans. Now, we get to a real inquistion of universal importance. The truth is stranger than fiction once all facts are hyperbolated to logical consequences. The Ram Air Induction will overcome its shorter range by symbiotic relationship to the "Duck"ist exhaust system. This is achieved by the scavanger exhaust manifolds creating decreased pressure zones inside the headpipes inducing greater intake ram air induction. This in symbiosis to the twin exhaust being directly inline with the center line of thrust and the center of inertia for the said model will actually allow the range of distance to accumulate at Beehive Beemer nominal for at least twice the liquid fuel consumtion range. Simply put: Ram Air induction Sucks the "S" foreward while the twin underseat exhaust pushes the same forward. Additionally, Since the atmospheric molecules are being induced by the Ram Air there i reduced necessity to move said molecules around the fairing thereby eliminating parasitic drag. (There is also a Booster effect for the "S" operator, they are leaning foreward for a logical reason, who has just had Brats and Kraut and beans with liquid libations. >3. Which rider will buy the beer at the end of the ride?? Ans. Well, all in the Beehive know who the cheapskates are. Therefore, this answer is obvious beyond the need of stating. But for those who maybe uninitiated, the King always has his libations and sees to it that his loyal subjects never, never go without without regard wof who actually locates the replicator terminals. >DeVern >DeVern Gerber gerberd@mtwest.net > >1997 Iron Butt Finisher, 1999 Iron Butt Entrant > >'83 R80ST >'95 R1100RSL "Das Amsdel" (Fliegen Sie Hoch und Schnell!) Well, it was definitely fun, and probably would have been more fun if I could have taken it out somewhere more interesting that 215 and 2100 S. Having said that, it seemed to handle nicely, flicking over with minimal effort, but taking a bit more to bring it back up (top heavy?). The engine pulled very nicely - no rocket ship, but then again I'm not a 25 year old astronaut. It is an interesting looking bike - 916-like pipes look great and the front end is starting to grow on me - BMW has proven once again that they follow no one when it comes to styling. On the negative side, it was decidedly buzzy, especially in the footpegs, which surprised me. The riding position put lots of pressure on my wrists - started to get a bit uncomfortable after 10 minutes or so - might have been less objectionable at higher speeds. The missing fuel gauge is most perplexing and annoying, especially at this price level - can not imagine what they had in mind. Finally, the fairing looked kinda cheesy - it was attached to the front with exposed rivets - looked like a poor man's aftermarket afterthought. To summarize, nice bike, but it ain't no Ducati. I would opt for the Ducati ST4 (despite trashing the chain tensioner last weekend!). Stinger Date: 27 Oct 1998 19:47:32 -0700 Gerlach was great! Even tho it rained from 11am Saturday till 11pm, then startup up again the next morning.... Left Gerlach at 10am NV time and rode in the rain all the way to Montello, arriving home at around 7:20 Logan time. It was a bit cool coming over the passes, and the rain was falling harder there, but at least did not hit any snow. The food at Bruno's was, once again, absolutely incredible-- who would believe you could get an Italian meal that good in the middle of nowhere? Bill and Gary and I had a good time at the event and on the way home, even tho we got chilled between Wendover and Elko. Having now thoroughly tested the Aerostich in an all-day rain, I can report that while not totally waterproof it most certainly did the job through 400+miles of steady rain. Now if I could just find some decent gloves for cold and wet conditions... Oh, yes--one of the highlights of the trip. I put "Mr. Fusion," my fuel cell with the Barber-designed nuclear warning symbols and dept. of energy text, back on the bike for the trip. Coming out of the gas station in Winemucca, my only gas stop on the way out, I was accosted by a classic "desert hippie," someone who clearly hadn't quite put it all back together again after the 60s. As he stood there looking at the bike and holding onto the ragged quarter-inch hemp rope that served as a leash for his mangy companion, he asked "Hey, is that for real?? I *KNEW* the damn oil companies and gummint bought up that cold fusion stuff just to keep control of it. Is it true, maan??" For a second I was tempted to answer "YES" just to see the reaction, then was tempted again to answer "Yes, but if I tell you about it I'll have to kill you." In the end, I decided I just didn't have time for the entertainment so told him no, it was all a joke. At that point he launched into a rambling dissertation about Nicolai Tesla and J.P.Morgan--I'm sure he would have eventually gotten around to Area 51 and his personal abduction story, but I just didn't have time to listen so nodded my head while mounting up and riding off. Aahhh, Nevada. I trust you and Bobster had a good time in Vegas/Mesquite?? On 27 Oct 98, at 20:19, Swan555@aol.com wrote: > But Brutus was an honorable Man. > > DeVerN: How was Gerlach. You know that Bob, he won't be happy until he nukes his unit... My bike must be sympatico with yours and Bob's. On the way home I pressed the button to transfer fuel from the cell to the main tank and was rewarded with a healthy shock. Guess rainwater had finally gottin inside the switch. The good side, however, was that the pump would kick in and out on it's own to transfer fuel-- I never had to touch the switch again all the way home.
