He spots a car with a guy by himself, reading a book. The cop finds this very peculiar, so he stops and walks up to the car. He taps on the window with his flashlight. The guy reading opens the window. "Yes, officer?" "What are you doing?" the cop asks. "I'm reading." says the guy. "Yea, I noticed." the cop says puzzled. "How old are you?" he asks. "Nineteen" says the guy. At this time, the cop notices a young woman in the back seat...knitting. "Miss," the cop asks, "what are you doing?" "I'm knitting, officer." says the young woman. "Yea." says the cop, even more puzzled than before. "OK, Miss, and how old are you?" The young lady looks at her watch and says "I'll be eighteen in ten minutes." - -- Mike - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Aug 1998 13:23:10 -0600 From: "DeVern Gerber" Subject: BB: Stanley Stomp Another Stomp has come and gone. There were (my estimate) about 85-90 people who showed up over the weekend. Food was, as always, excellent but the Saturday night meal was truly outstanding. No awards were given for largest club, but everyone should know that the Friese's are now OFFICIAL OLD FARTS. Yup, that's right- - -at the Saturday night awards ceremony Dave and Joan won the award for the oldest combined couple (rider + passenger + age of bike). 'Course, there weren't all that many couples there... :^) :^) Several of the BB present won prizes, and Bob Jensen made a surprise appearance late Saturday night, having detoured there on his way home from Sturgis (ever hear a K12RS go "Potato Potato...???). In addition to yours truly, the following were present: John Sherfy Tom Deaver & Sam Dave & Joan Friese Bob Friese Alan Jensen Bob Jensen Bob Valline Bob Carleson Phil Mortensen Paul Barber (looking for brother Dave, who was home with a bad back) Anne Larson I know I have forgotten at least a couple of people--if you know who they are please add them to the list. My original plans were to ride up very early on Thursday, but things got hectic at home and work so did not leave until 10:00 or so. Tom Deaver and Sam were going to meet me in Logan and ride up together, but I missed them when I jumped in the shower at 9:20 and thought they'd been there and left while I was cleaning up. At Pocatello I had to stop and fix an oil leak (my fault) and clean up the mess on my riding suit and boots. I arrived at the rally site early evening, just in time to grab a burger and set up the tent before a five- minute rain shower hit. Friday morning was another five-minute shower before settling into a beautiful day. Saturday the weather was again sunny and fair so I had a nice ride over to Banks and back. On Sunday I rode home with John Sherfy and Bob Jensen, an enjoyable ride home from a very relaxing weekend. You missed a good weekend if you weren't at the Stomp... Went for a great ride on Friday. I got the idea from the last ride Thane and I took past Mill Hollow res. At the summit is a road that points you toward Strawberry. One sign says 11 miles, the other says 18. Anyway, the majority of the road is smooth, packed dirt. An easy 25-30 mph lope. Winds through pine and aspen groves. The later 5 miles of the road got a little rocky, and in places, soft from a recent grading. I had a minor get-off, going about 3 mph around a downhill left turn. The front tire pegged left on me and slid out. I had time to push myself off the bike as it fell on its left side. Total damage was a slightly twisted ankle and a bruised hip. The bike was completely unscathed. Luckly, I only had a quarter of a tank of gas (only about 75 miles :-) ), so the bike was easy to pick back up. - -- Mike and the intrepid R100GS/PD (all and all, I think my favorite bike this season.) - - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Aug 1998 06:41:56 -0600 From: Jeb Berg Subject: Re: BB: To bee or not to bee ?
