Well, the year which ends the millennium or begins it depending on which camp you subscribe to ended very quickly. Just a year ago everyone was stressing over what would happen at the end of the year, rather than shopping. For me, the year went quickly. It all started in January when I purchased my BMW K1200 motorcycle, and started planning all of the trips I could take on this touring bike. The main event was a 7800 mile trip across the country to Washington DC and back, traveling through 23 states and one Canada Province. Averaging 350 miles per day on travel days and combining camping, staying with friends/family and in hotels about equally over 3 weeks. At the end of the first week, I met up with other BMW riders in Midland Michigan at the National BMW Rally. A rather fun, but mellow bunch (as compared to HOG rallies), of about 8000 people. It rained most of the time at the rally, but still was a blast. Next year I am planning on a 2 week trip through Glacier NP, Canada and the Pacific Coast to the 2001 Rally in Redmond OR. Last year I also purchased a home in the center of the Salt Lake Valley, with plenty of storage space for the bike AND car. October I celebrated my one year anniversary in my first house. Hopefully this year I will spent a bit more time in the mountains both on my skis and new found sport of snow shoeing. For those of you who are interested, I have updated my website with photos from this summer and many other times past. http://www.dsutah.com/staff/dan/adventure/index.html Dan Fazzini Jr. danjr@dsutah.com home.danjr@dsutah.com **************************************************************** The Beehive Beemers Internet Mailing List http://www.beehive-beemers.org **************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Dec 2000 20:56:52 -0700 From: "John Fitzgerald" Subject: BB: Holiday Wishes This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - ------=_NextPart_000_0007_01C06935.0C806C60 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi Guys & Gals: I'd like to wish all of you in the Beehive Beemers Club a GREAT Holiday = Season. Dave Howe Moto Techniques USA www.moto-techniques.com ADVANCED RIDING RULES AND TIPS Counter Steering If you push the left bar, the bike goes left. If you push the right bar, the bike goes right. That is, unless you keep pushing the right bar all the way, then you will probably go left while the bike swaps ends. Crashing Remember riding isn't inherently dangerous... crashing is. The Sidelines It's always better to be on the sidelines wishing you were on the track than on the track wishing you were on the sidelines. Fuel The ONLY time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. The Rear Wheel The rear wheel is just a big fan used to keep the rider cool and his butt relaxed. If in doubt... watch. When it locks up or slides out you can actually see the rider start sweating and pucker marks are left on the seat. Too Slow No one has ever hit something too slow. Rides A 'good' ride is one you can walk away from. A 'great' ride is one you can walk away from and use the bike again. Getting Hit They can't hit you if you're not there. Mistakes Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself. Side Stands You know you've left the side stand down when all left turns are Bat-turns. Center Stands You know you've left the center stand down when you're in top gear at 4000 rpm going nowhere. Traction When traction is sparse, the probability of survival is inversely proportional to the angle of lean. Large angle of lean, small probability of survival and vice versa. Your Brain Never let a motorcycle take you somewhere your brain didn't go five seconds earlier. Fog Stay out of fog. The single red taillight you think is another rider ahead that you can catch, might be the red starboard light of a docked boat. Parking Always try to keep the number of times you park the bike equal to the number of times you've ridden it. Luck & Experience You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck. Mirrors If all you can see in your mirrors is the direction you were previously traveling intermingled with sparks, and all you can hear is commotion from the passenger riding pillion; things are not at all as they should be. Other Objects In the ongoing battle between objects made of metal, rubber and plastic going dozens of miles per hour, and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose. Same holds for cars, trucks, walls and most animals. Draws don't count. Judgment Good judgment comes from experience. Unfortunately, experience usually comes from bad judgment. Going Forward It's always a good idea to keep the headlight end going forward as much as possible. Looking Keep looking around. There's always something you've missed. Laws Remember, gravity and centrifugal force are not just good ideas. They're laws not subject to repeal. **************************************************************** The Beehive Beemers Internet Mailing List http://www.beehive-beemers.org **************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2000 18:01:39 -0700 From: "Vik Arnold" Subject: BB: Christmas Dinner Party Hey, Sorry to have been so out of touch lately, but can anybody tell me whether it's still possible to reserve a spot at the dinner party tomorrow? Red Rock Rendezvous, Panquitch, Utah Headed up by the Beehive Beemers from Salt Lake City, this was their inaugural event and I sure hope that it becomes an annual happening. The highlight was the riding area. Carlos, this area is one of my favorites. The roads and the vistas are outstanding. The one catered meal was good but the riding area was the highlight.
