This is some serious stuff. It was only a matter of time before the EPA targeted all small engine devices. This proposed ruling was meant to address all off road vehicles. Stand by. I have been looking at articles about this coming for months now. The EPA has already determined that the California standards for motorcycle emissions will be adopted nation wide but they have a huge concern over the after market on exhaust systems. They want to require cats on all bikes and design the system and laws such that no one can change the system out. If you have ever worried about the government now is the time. They need a copy of our Internal Revenue 501C3 Documentation. Can any former officer's or current, look in their stuff and see if they have a copy. I remember getting a copy after we incorporated the Beehive Beemers and were given a Federal, ID number many years ago, but don't know currently who may have that in their possession. That is all that is keeping us from receiving the donation of service from Xmission. Each binder was divided into segments, all material related to the performance of duties for a specific office was to be maintained in the binders. Some offices, such as editor, also had an accordion file or storage box full of other materials as well-- past copies of Stingers, copies of each iteration of the bylaws, tax records, etc. Does this information or these binders no longer exist?? We need to have some formal system of passing on the portfolio to incoming officers. Took the RT up Big Cottonwood tonight, it and I both were appreciative. Pulled off the side of the road an watched the clouds drift by the moon-lit peaks. Spring is on the horizon...I can taste it. Hope some of you have had equally pleasant riding experiences today. - -- Mike **************************************************************** The Beehive Beemers Internet Mailing List http://www.beehive-beemers.org **************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2001 20:56:38 -0700 From: Gary Wilson Subject: Re: BB: Night-time rider. Had to work today. But Friday night I rode to StGeorge then came back Saturday afternoon. Fillmore area is still pretty chilly after dark. Even during the day I had all my gear on (no fancy electric stuff on da toaster) and was just comfortable. You're right though Mike; Spring is definately in the air. Yes, yes. Spring is showing itself. I went for a walk the other day and there are buds on some of the branches around here. It's funny, but a little ride like, this early in the year, can extract a great deal of stress from one's psyche. - -- Mike > -----Original Message----- > From: Gary Wilson [mailto:gwbsrt@earthlink.net] > Sent: Monday, February 19, 2001 8:57 PM > To: Michael Clark; bmw guys > Subject: Re: BB: Night-time rider. > > > Had to work today. Mike & Gary: The rides sounded great. Gary, you brought up a point that I am pondering: How do you all stay dry and warm? As I ease back into this lovely sport after a number of years off, I'm finding all kinds of options for all kinds of weather/riding style/bike. I recently read a letter in BMWON (Feb 01, pg. 6) where the author suggested layering with nylon at the skin, more after that and an outer shell. In the same issue (pg 30) the authors give the pluses and minuses about full suits and related gear. At the BMW of SLC open house, I talked to several enthusiasts who wore an arrangement of clothing. Everything from the full Aerostitch suits to complete electrics. What I have noticed in my brief "resurrected" riding career is that it's really inconvenient to stop and throw on a plastic rain suit when the really serious weather hits. What do you folks wear when the weather is "nice" and when it's otherwise? Thanks! Tom **************************************************************** The Beehive Beemers Internet Mailing List http://www.beehive-beemers.org **************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 2001 07:31:53 -0700 From: "DeVern Gerber" Subject: Re: BB: Night-time rider. Tom; To keep warm: Dress in layers. Layer 1= nylon mesh underwear (looks kinky as hell, but nothing else keeps your skin surface as dry and, consequently, warm). Layer 2= a thin layer of polypropylene long johns or polypro fleece. Layer 3= uninsulated Gerbing electric jacket liner. Layer 4= "300" fleece or, better yet, a Wiggy's sweater up top and fleece pants on the bottom. Layer 4= Aerostich suit. For temps below 20 degrees add nylon rain pants over the stich and, if the wind is blowing or conditions are wet, a nylon rain suit jacket over the stich. Yes, the Stitch will keep you dry through most rain or sleet, but the outer surface will eventually soak up water and the evaporative cooling makes it a tough go to keep warm. For hands, I just use well-insulated gloves and heated grips down to about 20 degrees, then add chemical heat paks in the top side of the glove. Feet have never been a problem for me, just good thick acrylic or wool socks. Gotta love those R-bikes... Keeping cool: Layer 1= Moisture transport underwear, no seams on bottom of legs. REI and other vendors have these available, they are often sold as liners for bicycle shorts. Another good option is the traditional silk long johns, but beware-- they take on a life of their own by the end of the day and thus require nightly rinsing and upkeep. Layer 2: Upper= long sleeve cotton tee, preferably heavy weight and with a substantial collar. Lower= lightweight jeans or, better yet, parachute pants (if you can stand to be seen in them) or surgical scrubs. Layer 3= Aerostich suit. Soak the tee shirt, zip up the stich to the neck and open all the vents-- built-in evaporative cooling that lasts for quite some time. Wear gloves and keep all skin covered to prevent windburn and dehydration. Most people who complain about fatigue when riding in hot weather really aren't fatigued, they are dehydrated and don't realize it. This will especially catch up to you after midnight.
