I loved the movie, and still atch it every now and then. JOSS wanted the movie to be like the series is, darkly humorous. However, The Powers That Be, thought (yeah like they ever actually think!) it would do better as a pure comedy. If the movie had been like the series, would it have attracted the same audience? I think BtVS is so accepted is because TV viewing has become a little darker, a little more cutting edge, then when the movie was out. If the movie had been the same mood as the series, I don't think my 12-13 yr old mind would have wanted to see it. I had wanted to see it cause I was a 90210 fan (I know.. shoot me later) and there were going to be cute girls in it, bounceing around in pom-poms! =) It was this child-like humor that got me hooked, and as I matured, and turned 18, the series had matured, and fit my new mentality perfect! It's not clear. The vamps sometimes do use their human faces underground too (e.g., Darla, when she killed the three). And I'm not sure a vamp's power is proportional to physical size (just like Buffy's isn't). The master vamp Nikolaos in Laurell Hamilton's "Guilty Pleasures" is a tiny adolescent girl, yet she easily overpowers larger, younger male vamps. Colin talks with an eerie slurred voice (strangely like Marcie's) and he seems so attuned to the Master's cruelty and wickedness. For these reasons, I suspect he's been vampirized. There's no need for anyone to get defensive on either side of the keeping issue--it's all supposed to be fun. Both Jill and I have stated that we don't mind the keeping stuff on the list as long as it doesn't get out of hand. We do ask that keeping requests be taken offlist as much as possible, though occasionally newbies will post a request. (We're going to add info about the FAQ to the intro file when people sign on, BTW.) People in charge of keeping for various characters tend to post periodic updates (with our permission). Also, there's good information about keeping in the Buffy FAQ maintained by Cagey, with lots of input from Hendricks and a few others. That can be found at: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Cavern/1763/buffyfaq.html. The reason why I don't mind it (and I suspect Jill feels the same) is that it engenders a sense of belonging for some fans. It serves the same function as the affiliation in Forever Knight fandom or flagwavers in Highlander fandom, where fans follow or are affiliated with a particular character. As long as people don't take them too seriously those things have gone a long way toward making those list fun, comfortable places to be. Not everyone likes the affiliations, in the same way that not everyone likes the keeping, which is fine. They aren't going to appeal to everyone. Not every post that drops to a list is going to interest everyone--that's the nature of the beast. In the same way that we've requested that calls to keep something belonging to a character go offlist, I'd like to make two suggestions to people who find the keeping annoying, and post about it. 1. Skip those posts. 2. Rather than post a complaint, introduce threads of your own that you would like to discuss. A mailing list is only as good as the people on it; in order for it to be an interesting place that you want to be you have to contribute to the discussion. If you introduce a thread and nobody picks up on it, don't be discouraged. Introduce something else, or try again. Sharon - -- Sharon A. I origionally thought it was going to be a lame show mainly because of= the network and the name. But never the less I was stuck at my grandparen= ts house and was flipping channels. I didn't see the name until after I decided I liked it. I watched the BtVS movie and enjoyed the premise, but thought it lacked bite. One day while flipping channels and trying to avoid econometrics, I came across the TV show. I thought SMG was much better than Kristy Swanson, and the chemistry between Giles, Willow, Xander, and Buffy was priceless. The show wasn't campy like the movie, and the dialogue was fantastic. What can I say one show and I was hooked. Surge Keeper of Buffy's Shadow P.S. Do we as Buffy fans have a name? e.g. Slayerettes, Slayers, Watchers, etc. Do we want a name? I wonder if this double-meaning was intentional. Lisa "Cool, crossbow... She gave him a bad time and kinda blew him off (even though Cordy was way into him). But then, at the beginning of 'Angel,' she's all dreamily into him. When did this happen? Offscreen? I wonder if the writers changed their minds about the B&A relationship after the pilot (Was Angel even originally intended to be a vampire? His name suggests more of a guardian angel type). Not that I mind, it's probably my fav ep 'cause I love a good star-crossed lovers story as much as anybody. But did the suddenness of Buffy's feelings for Angel seem kinda strange to anyone else too?
