Hi, my name is Peg, and I joined this list yesterday. I'm 23, live in Boulder, Colorado, and I am also a huge fan of Due South--it's a TV show--I don't know if anyone here remembers it. I have never been a huge fan of vampires because they're evil. :) But I like Buffy a lot because it portrays vampires as monsters that need slaying. Following the Darla discussion, I don't think she could have loved Angel except in a twisted evil kind of way because she has no humanity left. On the other hand, I think Angel is a cool character because he has to struggle constantly with what he is--both vampire and human. I would love to see he and Buffy get together but I doubt they ever will because the tension adds a great dynamic to the show. I am really hoping to see a fanfic list start soon, because I write short stories and I have some ideas I'd love to post. I'd also like to ask a favor--is there any "official" list of who keeps what because I'd like to call either Angel's black leather jacket or Buffy's crossbow. Could someone mail me a list? I also like a bunch of other things about the show, like the friendships between Willow, Xander, and Giles, and I love to hate Cordelia, and I also like having monsters other than vampires to slay. Whew. I'm sure there's more, but I'll post more later! In the meantime, hello and nice to meet you all! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ For as long as you can remember, you struggled against your own black heart and always lost. You watched your spirit, your very face change as the beast claws its way out from within you. Every man pays a price for redemption. My opinion this, well at first I thought Buffy through him out window. When you see someone flying out a window on TV it is usually because that person was thrown out but it does look like he may be running out. It is hard to tell what really happened. Someone brought that Angel did not continue to run away he waited to see what Buffy had to say as if he was thrown out the window and we wanted to explain but Buffy was to angry so he just listened to her. If he had just run out the window he would have just continued to run away. I think that the whole rescinding invitation thing is bull. Buffy didn't say "You are not welcome," until after Angel went through the window. Because Sharon attempted a guess at what she thought had happened, at which point you came in and said "here's what happened." Ergo, you were about to impart fact. You didn't. You came close, and then felt the need to editorialize. If you had wanted to impart fact as you started out to do, a play by play of that scene would have sufficed. That would have helped those who wanted to form their own opinion on the scene. > in any event - having watched "Angel" 5 times, i paid particular > attention to that scene and have judged that, within the context of the > program and the episode and the vampire/slayer mythology thus established, > that buffy was angry, scared and threw angel out the window. > > wouldn't you? Not necessarily. Angel loves Buffy. Angel had his half-vampire cravings start kicking in on him. He was confused. He wanted to kill her, and yet he loved her. It drove him crazy, temporarily out of his senses. He started running. Confused, he jumped for it. Thus, within the context of the vampire/slayer mythology which had been established, as well as the context of the episode, it is a possible explanation. I judged that as a possibility. I don't know the answer for sure. Only the writer of that episode, and maybe Joss, do. (And maybe there was something in the original scene to explain what happened which had to be edited out for reasons of time.) In any case, the question has been answered now. Well, Willow didn't seem to feel that "Slayerette" was an inappropriate name for her and Xander, and Xander didn't complain. Of course, he had a lot of other things on his mind and probably figured Willow was just joking, to boot. And I have to admit to being *very* amused to see the guys clamoring for a gender-neutral term for a change, considering all the grousing the male half of the species tends to do when women insist that they don't feel that using "he" to mean "person of either gender" is satisfactory. I only started watching a few weeks ago and don't know much. Also, what were the weapons that fell out of Buffy's bag in Invisible Girl? The phone was ringing and I only caught a glimpse. With the whole people expecting the worst from the show issue, I honestly did not expect to like the show. I saw it in TV Guide and I laughed and thought it wouldnt last half a season. After accidently tuning in one week, I liked it. The wierd thing is that most people in my school that I know of that watch the show also tuned in accidently. All I have to say about that. But I think I've read or seen it somewhere where vampirism is actually a *disease*, and if there are many mutations of viruses, why couldn't there be mutations of vampirism? That could explain how Buffy has to fight different types of vampires, if that ever happens. I would love to see he and Buffy get together but I doubt they ever will because the tension adds a great dynamic to the show. >> Actually I think the real tension would come from Angel and Buffy trying to make a go for it. They can't do too much hot and heavy kissing cuz Angel would more than likely as we saw in "Angel" ep loose control of himself. In books, I've read that to vamps drinking blood is almost like sex to them so that would explain Angel's restraint. Other areas of tension by being together every night or so could be that Angel's past can rear it's ugly head say a vampire pops up that happens to be one that Angel created and he has a hard time letting Buffy kill that vamp... I would like to see an arguement between Angel and Buffy, and Angel loosing his temper or vice versa, I think that would be interesting. There are tons of story angles from this point as well as the vice versa as mentioned above. As I waded through the obscene amount of messages I received today, I ran across two things in particular that I feel the need to respond to: First off, and forgive me for not knowing the young ladies name, a fellow new member asked about being the "Keeper" of various Buffy-items. I too yearn to be a "Keeper" and am wondering if it would be bad form to request Buffy's Prom Dress pre-episode. I have, admittedly, done some cheating and found out the general plot of the season finale and would ultimately like to avoid the stampede. Being a fan of B.T.V.S. from its infancy I have only recently discovered these groups, due to a general mistrust of these infernal machines, ergo... did not have the opportunity to request any elements of Buffy-dom. I am amazed at the surgical precision of you veteran members, whose accuracy of observation has made it indeed difficult to find anything new. An excellent example of, "Early bird gets the worm." Despite my whining, I throw myself on the mercy of my fellow Slayerites. Therefore, I believe a referee is required. Secondly, in response to the Buffy poll...... >E. They both live, but they live with the knowledge that they can never be together. This has the air of tragic romance which I truly enjoy. Is anything more dramatic than unfulfilled love? I have never subscribed to Shakespeare's writing, "It is better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all..." Please.......Having loved and having lost said love.......in retrospect I'd rather still have my innocence. Although it definitely makes for an interesting life, as I would think it would make an interesting and endearing plot line. Other weaker shows use this type of "can't have" scenario for big ratings. Knowing that this is merely a poll and not a contract I will halt my spiteful revelry, but perhaps its not that bad of an idea for the future of Buffy. (I sincerely apologize to Buffy for suggesting she live the rest of her life away from the one she loves but ..... I'm available.) Finally, two clarifications. My address states my user name as "Charles U. Farley." From a group who is so obviously well read and "well-viewed" I would have expected someone to realize the irony of that name. I really prefer Archangel, at my age I find anonymity quite liberating. And two, I fear that my messages are too lengthy. If they are, please tell me. I abhor my trait of endless rambling and enjoy the succinctness of your messages. The Archangel By the way, I could really care less about gender specificality. I find "Slayerettes" charming and well within the tongue-&-cheek humor of the show. Although having used "Slayerites" twice already, I am finding myself becoming quite attached to it. If we are to choose a name, I beg you choose soon before I get too set in my ways.... From: archangel-ichiban@juno.com (Charles U.
