So Angel could try CPR, but would do it very badly, like using a poorly controlled bellows to do it.. 3) Angel has a poor understanding of CPR, being that he's from the 18th century and has been a vampire for 200 years. He's under the mistaken impression that it involves transferring the "breath of life" from one living being to another (a breath counterpart to vampiric blood drinking), rather than being a purely physical process. Angel doesn't have the "breath of life"; he's not alive, he wouldn't fog a mirror when he breathes, etc., so he thinks CPR wouldn't work if he tried it. 4) Like 3, but Angel is CORRECT in this particular case. Normally, a vampire could perform CPR, but when the victim is a Slayer who's been drained by a vampire and drowned in a mystic pool in accordance with a prophecy, more than just physical CPR is needed. A symbolic/mytical component also has to be present, the breath of a living human being, for it to work. breath, he ____ Theodore Miller SCTQ91A@PRODIGY.COM TEDJMILLER@PRODIGY.COM ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jun 1997 21:14:27 -0500 From: "Kristy" Subject: Re: BUFFY: Voting on name : :I repeat, the "election" was a sham. : :DDA : Not only is that a lot of anger, it is also a completely unfair statement. Maybe it works like this: Vampires are the undead right? They have know need for oxygen, or air because they are dead. Being the undead they don't have any breath that is "compatible to exchange with humans". They probably take in air to speak but don't really have the kind of "breath" humans live on. If what Angel said was a cover up for not knowing CPR it is total understandable. Angel is 240 years old. CPR was invented LONG after he became a vampire. Vampire's don't usually care about saving lives plus why would he think learning it would ever come in handy. I get the feeling that before he met Buffy he didn't really socialize with any humans and vampires surely don't need CPR!! I mean, the 1700 messages I've gotten in the past week or two aren't *all* about keeping, are they? If you don't want to read the keeper posts, I suggest you delete them. They're usually appropriately headed, and that way you can move on to the more interesting conversations. As for fighting, I really haven't seen that much. There have been a few unkind posts - but those are in the minority; and on a list as big as this one, you're going to find those no matter what the topic. In my opinion, it doesn't make sense to have multiple keepers for one item - which is why we have the lists for people to refer to when they want to know if something is taken. Whether or not someone likes something isn't an issue - it's first come first serve on the claiming. Most of us can handle that. I have to say WOW! It was awesome. There were a few things I didn't like. I think the Master you have lived or at least no been so easy to defeat. Given he almost killed Buffy he must been killed by SuperBuffy or something. What in the hell was that Hellmouth creature any? Why If they hyped up "The Annointed One" was his part so miniscule and stupid? Is it just me or did Angel look like he had some weight or something. He looked like he had cancer. Onto the things I liked. Way to go Xander! He asked Buffy out good for him. He faced his fears twice this season. Although Buffy sort of gave him the cold shoulder it was still good for both of them. Buffy survived. Was there any doubt! Xander gave her half-assed CPR and saved her life. When she came to she Xander. I think she may look at him differently next season. If the Master is gone what is going to happen next and season and where did "the Annointed One" go? Also has anyone claimed Buffy's white prom dress? If not it's mine. I tried to use the stake from the main Buffy picture they used for the ads but it didn't work out. The picture really deteriorates when you reduce the size so drastically and also her hand covers up half of it so I couldn't get a real good pic of it. I kind of want two mouse cursors to decide on. I wanted to do one that is very symetrical and looks like the stake that Xander found in the pilot, and I wanted to try to do one that looks more like the ones she uses to actually kill the vamps, kind of rough looking and jagged. I'm just not an expert at graphic design so it's difficult. I'm going to try and find someone on the web to make one for me this weekend so I can figure out what to use for an animated cursor. I think I have all the other cursors taken care of. I also want to go three the last three eps and see if there are any sounds that are good that I might want to use to replace any of the sounds I have now. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. - -lawless ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Jun 1997 22:35:06 -0700 From: Julie Fundenberger Subject: Re: BUFFY: Assorted comments Arrrggghhh! I mean, she was in the middle of the Hellmouth during the "Apocalypse." It's possibly that there is no scientific reason just like we can't come up with a reason as to how he could have "pulled her" to him and made her so calm that she didn't try to fight back. Obviously he is incredibly powerful and my take on the whole thing was that he was just so powerful that the bite was enough to kill her. - -Lawless Nicole Neilan wrote: > The Master bit her, she went into shock. Excuse me if this has been brought up before because I doubt I'm the only one who's asked this. How did they convice Jessie to drink their blood? I didn't think that people would take things so seriously. I just thought that a group name would be a good idea for us. I'm sorry that some people didn't hear about the unofficial selection process until it was too late. If people want to hold an official selection process to get more Buffy fans involved, that's fine by me. I look forward to casting my vote. I would like to thank Kristy for sticking up for me, and Matthew for being a "stand-up guy" in speaking about the whole process and my involvement in it. In bringing up the concept of a group name, I hoped to bring about unity not discord among our group. I hope that this is still possible. This is some more major nitpicking but in the pilot, when he's first introduced to Buffy, she kicks him in the back and he falls to the ground. When this happens, he makes a noise and exerts some air, like most people do when they're hit. If he doesn't have a breath, then I wouldn't expect much of a reaction to him when he got hit. Also, does this mean that vamps can also live underwater? I'm seeing a whole new episode idea here and a good way to show Buffy in a bikini and increase the ratings. As corny as it would be...(...the dots are to indicate that I just realized what a stupid idea that was and am now trailing off and abandoning any thought of it). - -Lawless ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Jun 1997 00:58:06 -0500 From: David Daniel Anderson Subject: Re: BUFFY: More stuff (WPIX and Voting) >And as for the voting thing: it doesn't matter to me the outcome any. Larry Bonko on Television That Taster's Choice coffee guy perks up ''Buffy'' The Virginian-Pilot Copyright 1997, Landmark Communications Inc. Rejoice, Buffymanics. ``Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' has been renewed for a second season by Warner Brothers even before we've seen all 12 original episodes on the WB network. Tonight's ``Buffy'' at 9 is a new show, as is the season finale on June 2. In a few weeks, Anthony Stewart Head will leave his home near Bath, England, for Hollywood to continue as Giles, the tweedy high-school librarian who counsels Buffy in her duels with the forces of darkness. His face was known by millions of viewers long before ``Buffy.'' But not his name. Since November 1990, Head has been the suave presence in those silly soap opera-ish Taster's Choice commercials. Remember the first one? His doorbell rings. Ding, dong. It's the woman from across the hall. ``I'm having a dinner party and I've run out of coffee.'' That was 13 commercials ago. Today, Head shares star billing with Sarah Michelle Gellar in a series that could make him even more famous and wealthier than seven years of flirting with Sharon Maughan between sips of coffee. Anthony Stewart Head has emerged as the reluctant demonologist (``I prefer reading a good book'') in ``Buffy the Vampire Slayer.'' The man has shown us that he can do more than pour coffee. Head, Gellar, Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, Charisma Carpenter and others in the cast will likely be on TV screens for years to come. ``Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' is the first series on the Warner Brothers network to create a buzz. The WB, which is about $200 million in the red, could use all the buzz it can get. (The WB affiliate in this market is WVBT, but that will change next year when Channel 43 becomes a Fox affiliate). ``Buffy'' is part ``Clueless,'' part ``The X-Files.'' It has broad appeal, said Head from his living room in the United Kingdom, because it touches everyone who's been to high school, and everyone who's afraid of the dark. Isn't that all of us? ``Nothing's scarier than high school,'' Head said. When he was making the Taster's Choice commercials, Head's name was known only to his family and Brits who saw his work on stage. But he was no stranger at the bank. ``While Taster's Choice hasn't made me wealthy for life, the commercials did give me the money to have a very nice house, a very nice lifestyle. ``The money also put me in a position that actors dream about, which is the luxury of picking and choosing jobs. I don't have to take a job to make the rent or feed the kids.'' The coffee money enables him to work in the theater in London's West End where wages are low. Before signing to do ``Buffy,'' Head played Dr. Frank N. Furter in the London production of ``The Rocky Horror Picture Show.'' After he read the first ``Buffy'' script, Head told the series' creator, Joss Whedon, that he would be happy to play the bookish Giles. ``This series mixes characters unlike any other show on television,'' Head said. There are the kids -- Buffy, Willow and Xander -- who cooly face the vampires, demons, insect mutants and possessed puppets that tear the hearts out of people. One minute, Buffy is talking nail polish with a classmate, the next minute she's on the trail of a Grade A large weirdo loose in Sunnydale High. Then there is Giles, played almost absentmindedly by Head. ``Giles gives the series roots,'' said Head. ``He anchors it. Giles knows what needs to be done to vanquish the demons, but he's not up to it. That's Buffy's job.'' Whedon's series has its light moments -- cheerleader Cordelia trying to out-cool Buffy -- but ``Buffy'' is not a put-on, Head said. ``Joss told us in the beginning that we will be serious about the dark, scary stuff. That it will be real. No gags there.'' The creep factor is high. The 1992 feature film that introduced Buffy was flat-out campy. Head insists that the series is not. But the basic premise is the same: Young girl, usually the victim in horror flicks, has supernatural powers that enable her to kick butt in dark alleys, dingy cellars, caves or wherever else she finds evil. Every generation has its vampire slayer, and Buffy is ours. She'll be back in 22 episodes next season. Head is uncertain if the Taster's Choice commercials will continue here or in the United Kingdom. ``I said to the producers, `Enough is enough.' The storylines are going nowhere. I wonder how they can be made more intriguing, how they can give them more spice.'' In seven years of doorbell ringing and sipping coffee from white china cups to the music of Chopin, The Couple's life has been expanded to include her son and former husband. ``I don't know where else we can go,'' Head said. ``But we are talking.'' Head appeared in a 1995 sci-fi series on Fox (``VR.5'') that disappeared quickly. After that, he returned to England to work in the theater, appear on TV, and wait for a producer in the U.S. to send him a script for a TV series that he liked. Whedon in fact sent the first two scripts of ``Buffy.'' Said Head, ``I thought the scripts were seriously special.'' When ``Buffy'' returns with new episodes, look for Head as Giles to show a dark side to his character, said the actor who built a career on the simple act of sipping a cup of coffee. - ----- OOH what a good article!
