But in an interview, Sarah Michelle Gellar said she was a BIG fan of Xena: Warrior Princess (XWP), and that she would be THRILLED to have crossover appearances between XWP and BtVS. If you notice, Sarah even payed homage to Xena using that backwards stab into a vampire with a stake in the first opening episode. And did you see the way the Master (in Prophecy Girl) caught the arrow a la Xena when Buffy tried to get him with her crossbow? The similarities are there on purpose in my mind. I say if the star of the show wants it, she has some pull as to what will happen. I think Joss and the XWP writing staff would get along great, have a fantastic time and all it would take is one crossover appearance to set the scene for other crossover appearances. No problem with timelines, there is always the idea of ancestors/descendants interconnecting, time portals, dreams, fantasies, etc., and of course that all important Bacchite (vampiric demons in XWP) that make the central focus of tie-in/connection/crossovers a logical one. There are lots people who are fans of XWP and BtVS who would like to see the crossovers. It's a possibility and it becomes more and more tangible the more we speak about it. funee ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Jun 1997 22:36:15 -0400 From: Virginia Eveland Subject: Re: BUFFY: ICQ Buffy List? Im sure alot of Buffy fans are Scream fans and with any luck we can get more Scream fans to watch the show. We still got a long summer ahead of us and I hope things continue to build. The media is now offically calling us a cult hit which is good (hopefully in awhile they will talk about us like Xena graduating from cult hit to full fleged hit). We all should have alot of experience with what has and hasnt worked on keeping a show on the air. It is so good that SMG is getting involved in these movies. There is going to be a huge promotion for Scream 2 and that is only going to help the series. We got a real good start with season one and I think this is a time to build, maybe writing some positive letters to WB and the many media friendly magazines and news show that are showing Buffy in a positive light. We all should have alot of experience with what has and hasnt worked on keeping a show on the air. We are in a very good position right now but hopefully when season 2 starts every week will bring in ratings of 3.0 and higher. Things are going well right now and all we have to do is ride the wave and bring as many people as possible to the show. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jun 1997 01:38:46 -0500 From: "Christopher Messimer" Subject: Re: BUFFY: Tom's Page Where is Flagg's Page??? - ---------- > From: Erin D. > To: buffy@xmission.com > Subject: Re: BUFFY: Tom's Page > Date: Tuesday, June 10, 1997 5:22 PM > > >What would be neat though is an AVI movie file of the opening theme song > >part. (Deck the Clowns and Rudolph have been expanded as well) Lyrics for a more bittersweet song, "Like a Slayer," (based on Madonna's "Like a Prayer," which would be an interesting Buffy song in its own right) have also been created (Pop Songs section). I'll prepare a page for them and should have them linked this weekend. So, look for a pretty big update on Saturday or Sunday, with new sounds, pictures and the two themes. The other rumor about him was he drank the blood of his victims after they were dead. The novel turned these stories into a romantic Myth to satisfy all those repressed Victorians. I don't think Vampires are a part of ancient demon mythology. >Surge said: > I'm not saying you're paranoid in >looking for signs in the Bible you're just not in >the right place. Let's also not forget the flip over the Master in her pretty white dress at the end of PG; which is the most Xena-like thing I've seen all season, but just because they share similar attack conceits doesn't necessarily mean that one is an homage to the other. After all, any show about an extraordinarily acrobatic, physically gifted young woman would probably have some tricks that look like Xena's (Xena's repertoire of hand-to-hand attacks isn't that unique). If anything Buffy has gone out of its way to look a little more probable than Xena (no wire-fu there). Now if Buffy were flinging a chakram around on a consistent basis then I'd be a little more willing to buy this theory (she does something Chakram-esque in part 2 of the premiere, but it didn't strike me as being particularly Xena-esque at the time). >I say if the star of the show wants it, she has some >pull as to what will happen. I think Joss and the XWP writing staff >would get along great, have a fantastic time and all it would take is one >crossover appearance to set the scene for other crossover appearances. If the legal ramifications could be worked out and they could think of something fresh and interesting for these characters to do, then I'd be all for this (the risk for suckage is usually very high for this sort of thing). TV crossovers vary rarely work in dramas. Remember, Picket Fences tried to do this with X-Files a few years ago and it led to nothing but heartbreak. >No problem with timelines, there is always the idea of >ancestors/descendants interconnecting, time portals, dreams, fantasies, >etc., and of course that all important Bacchite (vampiric demons in XWP) >that make the central focus of tie-in/connection/crossovers a logical one. The Bacchae as vampires were artistic license the producers of XWP took with the myth of the Maenads. This is traditionally portrayed as a group of women dedicated to Dionysos (roman Bacchus) who are so driven into religious ectasy through drink and fervor that they go on drunken rampages across the countryside destroying everything in their wake. These are the same women who tear Orpheus into pieces and throw his head into the river. Creepy imagery. I mentioned a long, long time ago on the postingboard that this would be cool thing to see Buffy try to stop, a horde of drunken women destroying western America as they gravitate towards the Hellmouth (and was promptly told that it poached too much on the territory of XWP and HtLJ). I also thought a cool Greek tragedy kind of idea would be to have the Furies hounding Angel for killing his family (I read too much Neil Gaiman.) :-) >There are lots people who are fans of XWP and BtVS who would like to see >the crossovers. It's a possibility and it becomes more and more tangible >the more we speak about it. That's true, but it's probably better served in fanfic than in actuality. (Maybe you could write it? I'd be happy to critique it in private email.) I would be surprised if it were to happen.
