I replied... No can do... The department that schedules them does so on a moments notice (I swear) and I'm not actually privileged to that info. The promos are also being fed via satellite to our affiliates where they air them in their own "non-network" time. Basically, to catch the promos, you need to watch the network all the time... I can offer one suggestion, though... Check out our broadcasts Sunday nights and Monday nights... You're more apt to catch the promos featuring Buffy and co. on these nights as opposed to Wednesday (though I might be totally wrong about that...) :). My name is Renee and I am new to the BtVS list. I've been watching Buffy the whole season, though like Monet, I missed the first episode the first time around. I love the growth of the characters over the season. ANd I love the realness in such an unreal show. Whenever I see Xander mooning over Buffy or Willow over Xander, I get touched because that is such a real situation, and they play it so well! I admit, my first experience of SMG was on that horrible kid soap opera Swan's Crossing. Back when I watched Nickelodeon's Fifteen. (ugh! ugh! I can't believe I watched those, but I did). How old is SMG anyways??? Anyways...I'm from Connecticut, USA. I also love Babylon five, Party of Five, and MST3K. I love Neil Gaimen. I am a singer/songwriter so I love a variety of musical artists Deep Forest, Soul Coughing, Porno for Pyros, Smashing Pumpkins, BJork, Tori Amos, Lisa Cerbone, Melanie Garside,The Cardigans,Frente, etc... Anwyays, I just wanted to say hi to you all and I am enjoying the list so far! And can anyone tell me all you can about the actor playing Xander! Thanks! Oh, did anyone else ponder the implications of the Master sucking Buffy? I know she's not dead so she can't become a vampire, but something weird must have happened in this exchange. Will this increase her slayer power? And to the question of Angel, I believe his heart and soul definitely separates him from the other vampires. He's not fully vampire, not fully human, though he has the impulses of both. I feel sorry for the guy. He can't quite have Buffy and he can't give up his need for blood. But I still find it kind of crazy that he keeps hospital blood packets in his refrigerator. Anyways...welcome me and all that stuff. Great to be here! As far as the subject line: I doubt he could when he was mortal, but of course he can now, unless he was lying about how he spent his day in Buffy's room. And again, I dunno what the previous discussion on the subject is, but I kinda doubt he was sweet & innocent *before* falling in with the wrong crowd. Or at least before he fell in with the vamp crowd. He's from Ireland in the 1750s, for gosh sakes; I'm betting he had a pretty big chip on his shoulder toward the English for sure, and maybe got involved in revolutionary activities. It doesn't prove anything, granted, that he became "the most vicious creature" when he was made a vampire; but somehow I don't see Darla attracted to a pacifist... >BTW, did anyone else think that Angel's lines in the first part of the >premiere ep were "looped," i.e. re-recorded? The inflections in his voice >sounded kind of funky (a little arrogant, in fact) It probably was ADRed just because sound would be tough in that alley, if it was location and not soundstage (their soundstage is so bloody impressive it's hard to tell sometimes!) But I'm not sure what the tone has to do with that; it was his first time meeting Buffy, and she hadn't started making a dent in his detached Cryptic Wise Man attitude yet. As his opinion of her changed, so too did his attitude and behavior toward her. Later! Valerie "Warning: American Sign Language can be hazardous to your health." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Jun 1997 10:46:03 -0400 (EDT) From: WiliQueen@aol.com Subject: BUFFY: The Angel's Breath Issue This is one of those things where it's really inconvenient to have human limitations on actors playing nonhuman characters. :-) My hypothesis for reconciling this within the realm of the show: since, as Giles said, the vampire can retain the "memories, mannerisms, even the personality of the person it's taken over", it also retains psychological vestiges of autonomic functions like breathing. Angel's subconscious thinks he should be panting after a run, for example, so his body obliges; but he's not actually processing the oxygen. Now, it's a pretty big stretch for this to mean he can't give mouth-to-mouth--if anything, because he's *not* processing the oxygen, there would actually be a *higher* content of it in his exhaled breath than a mortal would have. So I figure (a) he was afraid of screwing it up, (b) he doesn't know CPR (why would he?) and didn't want to admit that to Xander, and/or (c) he was making a concession to Xander without *looking* like he was making a concession to Xander, and using the breath thing as an excuse. Incidentally, I've seen some bad CPR technique on TV, but that takes the cake. I was *really* glad I wasn't watching it with my mother the nurse; she gets extremely vocal about such things. I'm not as loud as she is about it giving people examples of totally wrong things that may in fact hurt the person worse, but it *did* require some serious suspension of disbelief to not think it made Xander and/or Nicholas look really incompetent. I can see the dramatic license reasons for doing it the way they did--e.g. if he had actually *cleared the airway, hello!*, we wouldn't have seen her face in the shot. But the least they could have done is get the *water* out before he started. Just something I hope they fix in the future; because I'm sure Buffy's won't be the last such revival. (Although I kinda doubt anyone else will immediately spring up and march off to kick serious master-vampire butt... :-) ) Later! I feel different.", the "really hungry" line, is that they were deliberate red herrings, or more accurately little homages to classic hero-becoming-vamp moments in a dozen movies I can think of off the top of my head. Which puts it in the same category as a lot of my favourite moments from the show, where they recreate a classic horror cliche and Buffy proceeds to turn it on its head. A sampling: "It's in about nine hours, moron." ... the "demonic" puppet turning out to be a demon hunter ... "What was that? There's somebody out there..." I think a million theories are possible as to precisely what *did* happen to Buffy there; I personally favor "that which does not kill her makes her stronger; and the closer it comes the stronger she gets." I also like the notion some people have mentioned about her acceptance of being the Slayer; certainly my impression in that whole sequence--the ten minutes or so between her revival and the suggestion that they go to the dance, during which she was *way* scary--was that she was much more Slayer than Buffy. Even her jokes, as much as I loved them, had a coldness and hardness to them--only "you have fruit punch mouth" seemed typically Buffy-like. Just my random thoughts... Later! Which, with the way that shot was set up, was obviously not on Joss' agenda, as he didn't even tilt her head back to clear the airway. For whatever reason, Joss wanted us to see her face, and that was a stronger decision-making factor than verisimilitude. Which is fine; I just had to work on the suspension of disbelief. later! It's pretty clear to me why she has this pathological need to be the center of everything at school: they don't seem to even notice she's there at home, short of throwing money at her to go shopping with. Between shopping and the Bronze, she seems to be awfully good at avoiding *going* home for anything but sleeping. I'm waiting for some of this stuff to be made clear about her to Buffy and Co.--wonder if it might not lead to a less sarcastic "Think we've got problems"? >I don't think Cordelia has anything to give to the group. I'm not sure I agree with that. She screamed a lot, but other than that she adapted awfully well in PG. Considering that she still knew *zip* about the Hellmouth, vampires, etc., doing anything other than standing still and getting munched counts as an achievement. I don't know that she's full-time Slayerette material, but I do think she has something to contribute to some situations. In PG, to a certain extent, it was almost an extension of her center-of-the-universe mentality: she needed to get to the library, so she got there. The vampire's hand was in range, so she bit it. Some potential in her got clicked on by the events of PG--probably a combination of Kevin's death and finding herself in danger--and her survival instincts are alive and well, which is more than I can sometimes say for the core Slayerettes! :-) >But now I bring the possibility of Xander... He may decide to >chuck it all one day and want to be a normal guy. Its like in >the pack when Willow says "Buffy saved us." and Xander goes >"we didn't need much saving before Buffy came here." I'm sure there's an element of that. But when Xander is Xander, he knows that that's because Buffy came at the same time the Hellmouth became more active and endangered all of them. He's a bright enough kid to know that at this point he could only *pretend* to be "normal". And while he may eventually be convinced that Buffy can take care of herself (although that would take some MAJOR convincing), I doubt he'd go anywhere while Willow is still in the soup. I wasn't sure at the beginning what his function in the group was, but as the show went on he developed a habit of serving as the "reality check", bringing the others back to simple common sense when they get buried too deep in Giles' lore to see the answers they already have. He's also very protective of Willow, and if she *is* to be the next Watcher she's gonna need it. Later! (not). Believe it or not, my first thought when I saw the dress was "Okay, short underneath, and the overskirt split up the front. Good freedom of movement." The only thing that surprised me was that they didn't ditch the overskirt a la movie Buffy. Mind you, I'm used to doing that sort of thing (albeit usually choreographed) in 40 lbs. of Elizabethan peasant garb, so my standards are a bit skewed. :-) As for the shoes, they attached securely, they weren't too high, and the chunkiness is a *happy* thing when compared to the skinny little heels I wore to *my* proms about 10 years ago (which I ditched before attempting the slightest bit of dancing; Buffy's I probably would have kept on). And it's another case of turning those horror movie cliches inside-out--this was her moment to look like a Hammeresque virgin sacrifice type. Remembering that all this started with Joss' idea of the typical blonde horror bimbo suddenly kicking monster butt, she really *had* to go in that outfit. Using those images is too much a part of the fabric of the show. Of course it wasn't the most practical thing for her to wear...but since when is Buffy practical? :-) Later! Must've seen her astral form! :) There must be someone on another show who looks a *lot* like her, then, because I've only seen a very short bit, and she's the only person I thought I *did* see in it. It's a shot of just her and some little girl, I think one of the kids from 7th Heaven. I have yet to see the long one. A mystery... Later! My apologies if this has already been pointed out in the scientific way. My biology teacher would be so proud I remembered one of her classes on the lungs--and I'm 7 years out of high school--jeepers that is scary! Okay here goes---when we breathe we take in oxygen and our lungs transform this into carbon dioxide so it goes out as carbon dioxide. To be able to do this transformation the blood/body has to be alive. Angel could probably pump oxygen in and out but not like a human can which would explain his heavy panting as he said, "I have no breath." So maybe Buffy needed carbon dioxide in her lungs not oxygen? huh? Now I'm getting confused!! I read off the posting board that David B. slipped on the wet ground near the pool and fell when he was running towards Sarah/Buffy. I imagine that take had been taken so many times that David really was the one panting not Angel . Off hand, I have to say I noticed one thing when I watched the seasone finale was when Angel and Xander paused as the Master broke through the portal that they both took off at relatively the same speed then Angel was way ahead of Xander as he came into the main cave. That made me happy cause it's consistent with Angel=Vampire, Xander=human. Sarah played the teenage Jackie. while we're on the subject, here's a useless quote from Sarah about Roma: "I wanted to be just like her, not only in the movie, but in real life, too. If we can suspend disbelief enough for that, surely we can believe that the slayer would have the power to kick some serious vamp-butt in chunky shoes...
