Part of the point is that (generic) southern California/ L.A. metro is the most ethnically diverse area in the country. While pockets of homogeneity are possible, it seems unlikely that Sunnydale would "just happen" to be so. > This is a truly frightening thing. It totally equates school > with prison; how can anyone learn in that sort of > environment? I don't know about L.A., but in many places this is done as much to keep non-students (i.e. gangs/drug dealers) out as the students in. (And for the record - the Massachussets correctional system offers educational programs, from GED preparation to vocational courses, even access to the state university system for low- security prisioners ... all on prison grounds.) Survey says...WRONG! As a vetern of not one, but TWO different private schools, I can tell you that people do get away with that type of dress. (In fact, there was a girl in my french class who dressed a LOT like Buffy). Since the school, if it is private, is obviously not associated with any religion, it decreases the likelyhood of uniforms..... No, wait, scratch that. The non-relgious private school I attended had uniforms K-6. 7-12 didn't have to wear them. The religiously affiliated school I currently attend doesn't have them for any grade. In fact, outside of catholic and military schools, surprisingly few private high schools have uniforms. - -Terrie Keeper of Angel's Fridge "Grrr, Argh" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 01 Jul 1997 14:29:09 -0700 From: Lawless Subject: Re: BUFFY: Ratings, we've got ratings... Again, I guess it all depends on where you live and the school you go to. My school had a dress code, but it just meant that you couldn't have long hair and wear fishnet shirts and stuff. And I think that rule has long since past over the years. But theb school I went to and the other three private schools I'm familiar with never had a uniform the students had to wear, I've only heard of that at boarding school and catholic school (although I'm not saying alot of private schools don't have them). ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Jul 1997 15:46:21 -0400 (EDT) From: Robert Huff Subject: Re: BUFFY: the private vs public school debate rages on. . . > let's not forget the all-important uniform factor. as a 12-year > private school veteran, i know that most if not all private > schools have a uniform or, at the very least, a dress code. Dress code, maybe ... but here in the Northeast very few non-religious schools have uniforms. (And for some of those that do, the allowed variance is substantial.) This is beginning to change with the advent of charter schools, but many of those requiring uniforms are aimed at the, how to put this delicately, higher risk populationd. Thanks. - --Alan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Jul 1997 17:39:30 -0400 (EDT) From: Ruthie718@aol.com Subject: BUFFY: Angel or Xander? I always thought Buffy and Angel should get together until last night. I thought it was really sweet when Xander turned down Ms. French (aka She-Mantis) saying that he loved Buffy. Now I can't decide who Buffy would be better off with? Angel or Xander? I kind of like them both. Another thing, now that the Master is dead some people are thinking that there will either be a new master or no master at all. I myself think that they should play up on the child now, make him the new master or whatever. Who knows, maybe the master's death was going according to the vampire prophesy and the child will now really be the one who will lead them into hell...... and that's where Buffy comes in. Just a thought. One more thing. A few people have been asking how they can become the keeper of whatever. I'd like to know too, since I'm knew on this mailing list and buffy on the web. People from that list vote for Mitzi Kapture, and there is a lot of them on the list. I have been voting for Sarah and just last week changed to Alyson. If they could get Mitzi at #1 I think we can do the same for either Sarah or Alyson. If we all go there and ALL vote for SMG (she already has 50+ votes!- get her up to the top - then we'll all return to vote for Alyson. If we can't work as a team on this then neither will make it. It is not hard to do, just FOLLOW the rules when you vote. Note: We can vote once a week, so if we fall a little short we can always capture the title next week. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Jul 1997 16:46:00 -0700 From: "SCOTT WOODARD@warnerbros.com" Subject: Re[2]: BUFFY: Message from Scott I wrote... >>Starting July 13th, we will be double-running Buffy on Sundays and >>Monday nights!!!
