I just wanted to say that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the best show on tv for Monday nights. I feel that other shows in the same timeslot don't have a chance against Buffy. Buffy The Vampire Slayer is an exciting and adventurous show that I just love to watch. That show called Roar on Fox is really not as good as Buffy. Buffy Rules! Hi, Robert -- I don't seem to find Willow's outfits as revolting as you seem to, and, even though I think that she could use a little pizazz, I'm going to defend her to death :) My point is, that dressing "cool" or "right" has less to do with clothing than it does with feeling like you fit in your clothes. I think that your friend summed it up exactly: > Another difference between Willow and Buffy is summed up in > a friend of mine's saying: "Attitude - the perfect accessory for > every outfit." Even if Willow were to don go-go boots and sport a smart pair of sunglasses, she would still feel awkward and she would probably feel like she is play-acting. Shuddering as I remember my awkward high school years, I know that "wearing the latest fashion" did not help me feel like a fool. It was only until I figured out who I was in college that I pinpointed a "look" (if you will indulge me with that term), donned some kick-a** shoes, and felt good about the way I looked. And really, I don't get the sense that Willow is uncomfortable in her clothes. She looks good in them -- the innocent Jan Brady look I like. Her nerdishness comes more from being a computer whiz than anything else. (You know, she could one day rock your world by becoming a full-fledged cyberpunk.) And in your response to Tracey, you mentioned that you thought that Willow should put her hair up... I thought long, flowing hair was sexy to the opposite sex... or am I just gender-confused? glee - ------ I laugh in the face of danger! ...And then I hide until it goes away. - Xander Harris from "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jul 1997 10:20:32 -0400 (EDT) From: PalOBuffys@aol.com Subject: Re: BUFFY: Revelations about "The Witch" In a message dated 97-07-15 06:12:49 EDT, Chris (inspyral@aol.com) wrote: << I mean, his door was axed, desks went flying, and the aforementioned axe was stuck in one of the tables (by Catherine the Great). I love how playful she is with those eyes and eyebrows. I've been following the dress thing regarding Willow, and most of the criticism I don't get. I agree with Mike, I thought the purple top was gorgeous on her and the skirt was cute. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the first two episodes of the show, so I missed the part about her mother dressing her. And I *love it* when her hair is down. I think Alyson has beautiful hair, and she has that widow's peak in the front. I don't like it so much when they put Willow in the braids, though, because then she looks about 12 years old. I'd love to know her exact birthday and time,to see which particular lucky stars she was born under. That's a genuine request, if anyone has that information I would love to know. BTW, did anyone else notice the visual pun in IR,YJ when Willow comes through the front door of her house? As she walks off to her bedroom the camera lingers on a big vase by the front door full of pussy willows. Most if not all of the long-haired women I know (which includes my girlfriend, and no high-school students but a fair number of college students) tie back or bun their hair when the weather gets like it is represented in Buffy. (I live in Boston, which may have different weather as well as different fashion mores, but still ....) Besides, that way Xander can have fun playing with the hair-sticks. Or Buffy can use them as a weapon. Given you put certain words in quotations, I'm going to disagree. Dressing cool rarely has much to do with physical or psychological comfort. > Even if Willow were to don go-go boots and sport a smart pair > of sunglasses, she would still feel awkward and she would > probably feel like she is play-acting. Precisely. Willow doesn't have "attitude", and (barring a personality transplant) probably never will. Buffy's and Cordelia's styles won't work for her. > And really, I don't get the sense that Willow is > uncomfortable in her clothes. I think there is a part of Willow who would like to dress differently, but is resigned to wearing whatever her mother brings home. Remember how she was quick to point out to Cordelia the clothes weren't her choice? > She looks good in them -- the innocent Jan Brady look I > like. Ah, here's the cusp. I have never considered "The Brady Bunch" to be a indicator of good taste in clothing. All that polyester ... ! (For that matter, I was there for the '70s look the first time around, and generally think it should be treated like any other undead thing.)
