Now, I know every episode shows great talent, but which one do you think REALLY stood out? Question #5a Which episode had the best plot? Question #5b Which episode had the best sense of humor? Question #6 Buffy vs. Roar. Do you think that the new show Roar will be any competition for BtVS? a) no b) yes c) I think any show that's on at the same time as BtVS is a competition Question #7 (optional) Buffy's ratings continue to go up, even through the reruns, but there are still some people that have just not been introduced to Buffy yet, that need to be. What do you suggest? Well, there's the new poll! Hope you enjoyed it for a third time. As usual, I will have another poll in two weeks- so stay tuned. Does a show have to make certain ratings in order to >stay on? Many people don't think Nielsen ratings are a very accurate reflection of america's television-watching habits. Unfortunately, it's the established system and it's very hard to think of another way to measure who's watching what. Three issues are key: 1) the number of people watching, 2) the demographics of the people watching, and 3) how the show does compared with shows that run on the same night. If you remember, Quantum Leap never had particularly high ratings, but lasted as long as it did because it had a very strong following in the age bracket that its advertisers and the network were targeting. Some nights of the week just don't have a lot of people watching tv, so programs that attract viewers away from other networks (despite low ratings) tend to last longer. Oh, and I guess another issue is the whole syndication matter: new networks like Fox and WB don't have the kind of built in audience that the big 3 do, thus their numbers are always smaller. Xena and Hercules don't have numbers anywhere near those of shows like Friends or Seinfeld, but both are considered "hits." Dame Nielsen is a fickle mistress. I doubt Buffy would be cancelled on the basis of ratings alone, but the WB is notorious for cancelling "hot" shows that cool down (like Savannah), so let's hope that joss can keep up the level of his game and that we continue to show support for BtVS! Advantage: Buffy. ObBuffy: If the Olsen twins are available, don't you think they'd make a great pair of henchgirls for the Anointed One? I've seen her wear that pink tank twice~the one in her room during ANGEL, she also wore it with that blue jacket at the Bronze in the first episode. She wore that long maroon velevetty jacket twice~end of NKABOTFD and INVISIBLE GIRL. Those are the only ones I can think of apart from her black leggings, but she could have a whole closet full of those. I don't remember seeing Xander or Willow in the same things ever...AND definitely not Cordelia. Imagine the princess wearing something more than once! Hi! I just wanted to send this to you guys with many thanks....after a day and/or a week of doctors and nurses and patients yelling at me in person and over the phone (I am a Appointment Coordinator/Patient Processor) it is truly wonderful to come home to the people I love my family and friends and to you guys in the e-mail lists such as Buffy, Forever Knight, and Kindred: The Embraced. You all make me :-) after a bad day! Sorry to get off topice but I had to get that off my chest. I just got back from vacation from Myrtle Beach and I just loved it and I would love to see an episode of Buffy where her Mom asks her and her friends to go on a vacation with her or they decide to go by themselves. IMOVHO, It would also be neat to see Willow possessed by a former slayer and her and Buffy working together, slaying together! In case anyone reads their email while at Comicon, I have a few suggestions for questions to ask--so if you get called on right after someone asked YOUR question, you have a whole list to consult! :) 1. What events in the movie happened to the television Buffy before moving to Sunnydale? 2. Did Joss provide backstories for the cast? Or did the actors make up their own? If so, can anyone provide any interesting tidbits that helped the actors develop their characters? [For those of you who have not taken Drama 101, often actors and writers develop "back stories" or histories on what happened to a character before the events of the drama. This helps the actors develop a character more fully.] 3. During casting, was each actor cast individually, or did they try them out in groups to see how they worked together? [For example, in the original "Star Wars," they tried out different trios to see who should play Leia, Luke and Hann. Among those rejected were Jodie Foster and Nick Nolte, by the way.] 4. Would they do anything differently with a bigger budget? Or is it more fun to work with less money, fewer accountants and less attention for studio bigwigs? ;) 5. Whom does Joss Whedon most identify with among the characters? (Someone on this list predicted a few weeks ago that it would be Xander.) 6. Did the cast get to rehearse or get to meet each other much before shooting the pilot? 7. Did the actors get into their roles quickly, or did it take them some time to find the character? 8. Was it difficult for David B. to develop the character of "Angel" since he only got a few lines here and there for the first five or so episodes? 9. Was Joss inspired by any particular movies, music or literature when he started to develop "Buffy?" 10. Since Nick B. has done some technical work before being on "Buffy," does he ever get the urge to mess with the lights, sound, or the camera? 11. After writing, producing and directing "Buffy," does Joss Whedon want to try doing the same in motion pictures [and not just with "Buffy."]? Have the studios shown any interest? I think that is enough for now. So thanks in advance if anyone gets to find these out! I've written fan mail to a lot of celebrities over the years and generally, I wouldn't expect to get anything back unless you send an actual letter. Like James, has said, e-mail doesn't nearly have 1/10th of the power of a written letter. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jul 1997 16:50:22 -0700 From: Matthew Hammond Subject: BUFFY: Nitemares OK in nightmare's Buffy became a vampire. So I would say Buffy has a very good idea how hard it is for Angel not to feed on people. Casue if you all remembefr Giles asked Buffy "can you hold on" and Buffy's reply was "we better hurry I'm getting hungy" To continue on a past post someone was asking if there were maybe more than oneslayer in the world and debated about if there was a slayer in waiting for the curent slayer to die. So say Buffy did become a vampire would she kill herself or would she become a IMMORTAL SLAYER in which cast if there was a slayer in waiting for her to die there could be two slayers and buffy could teach the new slayer and also because of her immortality she could like be a watcher to and help train new watchers as they came into being! Oh well just some stuff for you all to ponder... "maybe even a fic story" HINT HINT! Till later!
