I don't think Buffy immediately decided 'vampire' when Angel followed her the first time, and with his comment "I don't bite", she probably found it unecessary to check. Also, because of Angel's nature (him being cursed with his soul and all), her senses might not be able to detect him were she to try. As for Jesse, same deal here. She believed that he was truly still alive, and his play-acting towards his former companions was perfectly done. These are just my observations and rationalizations, by the way, they're not necessarily gospel, just yet. Working with the assumption that everyone's witnessed the scene in which Giles tells Buffy that she must "hone" (I think that's the word) in on the vampire in order to sense it: WttH: In the cemetery, Buffy asks Willow and Xander which way Darla went with Jesse because Darla's long gone. Buffy doesn't have a clue. If Darla was nearby, well, then that would be a different story. Obviously, Buffy's already checked, and Darla is *nowhere* in the vicinity. Harvest: In the Mausoleum, you mean? - I think Buffy was just concentrating too hard on opening the gates to the sewer access than using her powers to look around for vampires behind her. Let's just say, she was distracted. Also, with reference to an earlier email I sent up, Angel's spiritual makeup could differ greatly enough from other vampires (due to the fact that he has a soul) that he's undetectable by "Slayer sense". Oh, and BTW, don't give me any nonsense about how Buffy nearly speared him with a crossbow bolt in "Angel" by detecting where he was. That was simply just use of her heightened senses as a Slayer in general rather than vamp-detect. }:)> Chris 2 **Keeper of Xander's Cool** **Keeper of Xander's Right Hook** "Just going to go home, lie down, and listen to country music. They couldn't start on season 2 until they knew if it was being bankrolled. From there, it can take a lot of time to go from first draft of the script to post production work. You also want to have a couple of additional episodes finished because once the new season starts airing, then a lot of shows are in a situation where new episodes are being aired faster than they're being made, so you want something of a buffer. It's ritualistic babble AND 2. In order for him to get the power necessary to be free to walk the earth (wouldn't he float? :P), he needs the vessel, Luke, to feed for him. Therefore, when Luke feeds, so does the Master. They are linked by blood and they must be linked by souls in order for the transfer of power, right? So when the Master says your soul is my soul, I think he means that his soul and Luke are as one. What occurs to Luke happens to him and vice versa except when Luke is staked. The Master gets weak, but doesn't die - my guess is that he is too powerful and strong to die with Luke. To sum it up, they share the same soul in two bodies in order to feed the Master and set him free. (I know, a little repetitive..but it took me three tries to try and explain this in a logical fashion) Okay, now that I'm finished there (although it probably doesn't make any sense to anyone but me), I have a question for the list. If the Master hasn't walked the earth in a century, how is he still undead without feeding? Or do his minions bring him tasty meals? Or, as demonstrated by The Harvest, does he feed through his vampires? In other words, are they all connected by their 'souls' and when they feed, he feeds? The design with the fangs sounds very cool! I love the Top Ten idea on the back too. When I saw your #1 Reason, it gave me an idea. I don't want to stir up trouble, but why not have all the reasons be quotes from the show? I'm very appreciative of what Kim has done and I don't mean to dis it. I just think Joss's dialogue is a huge strength of the show, and will help draw people in. And as long as we stick to one-liners, there's no copyright problem (fair use). Please excuse any obnoxiousness I may be exhibiting as I nominate others quotes that could work as Top Ten Reasons to watch Buffy: 10. Because "It's funny how the earth never opens up and swallows you when you want it to." 9. "It's like a whole big sucking thing." 8. "Because tomorrow you could be . . . dead!" 7. "I thought Xander was gonna show up." 6. "The Earth is doomed." 5. "We've fought some bloodsucking fiends and that's all been a good time. But I want more." 4. "I know our ways are strange to you, but soon you will join us . . ." We already have #1, so can anyone else supply quotes for the # 3 and #4 Reasons for the back of the T-shirt? Even if Kim doesn't want to deal with the whole thing, I think it's a fun thing to put together. - --Alan - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Alan Convis alan@pharlap.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Aug 1997 18:18:43 -0400 From: "Andrew Weitzman" Subject: Re: BUFFY: Signs that Angel was a vampire - ---------- > From: PalOBuffys@aol.com > ObBuffy: In WTTH Giles is telling Buffy that she should be able to sense the > presence of a vampire even in the midst of the activity in the Bronze, it got > me to thinking. Remember the moment when she pauses and looks over her shoulder? That's the point her Slayersense is kicking in. It was what gave her enough warning to bushwack Angel a minute later. The fact that Angel seemed to be trying to aid her in vampire hunting may have made her think her Slayersense was giving false readings. We've seen her vampire-spotting abilities in other eps, too. In NKABOTFD, she was capable of getting the vibes off the Three while they were stalking her. _______ Andrew Weitzman aweitz@cam.org Beware the Fluffy Threat(tm)! Not precisely. Giles' explanation for the history of vampires certainly doesn't conform to anything I'm familiar with in Geneisis. The demons lived upon earth for eons before unspecified conditions drove them from the earth-plane. That sounds more like the Elder Ones of the Lovecraft mythos--ancient beings patiently awaiting until their minions can release them When The Stars Are Right. The "hell" of the demons could be a seperate plane of reality which has nothing to do with human definitions of the term. Or, for a turnabout, the demons of the Buffyverse could have been the *inspiration* for human tales about Hell. Which does not, nastily enough, guarantee there is a Heaven... ObBuffy: One thing which would be interesting is an appearance of members of the Romani clan who cursed Angel. There's great dramatic potential in Buffy defending her beloved from fellow vampire-hunters. _______ Andrew Weitzman aweitz@cam.org Beware the Fluffy Threat(tm)! Perhaps the demon--an entity incarnate only through its human hosts--takes the place of a soul in the body. If the demon displaced the soul, then what Angel said, "The demon gets your body, but it doesn't get your soul," would make a lot of sense. Of course, what happens to the soul after being brought across and between the final death is just totally a mystery... The theory the whole list came up was Angel was not in direct sunlight in the masouleum but the in light of it. You can be in the light of the sunlight and not be in direct sunlight. An example of this is Darla in "Angel" when she pulled the blinds up and slapped Angel in the face with direct sunlight. He jumped back but you could still see light on his face but no longer the direct sunlight. Same with Darla. Someone else help me out with this, I may have forgotten some other explanations that go with this. Wolfkazzy Keeper of Angel's Soul "I can walk like a man, but I'm not one."--Angel. p.s. just thought of something else to add to this--remember the vampire hand trying to get Buffy back in the hole? It was in the light briefly but got back in the shadows and Xander and Buffy had to pull the hand out more into direct sunlight before it started smoking-- it didn't smoke in the light but did eventually in direct sunlight. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Aug 1997 18:41:40 -0400 (EDT) From: The Dark Knight Subject: Re: BUFFY: Why???
