Buffy is actually changing out of a bathrobe (don't know why, her hair doesn't look wet and I think she was at school earlier that day) Anyway, Willow said "Here, put this on" and handed Buffy a dress. Xander just stood there looking at Buffy, and said "You're not bothering me." Willow shoved him to the other side of her room where there was a tiny mirror in a jewelry box. You can't see anything but Xander in the mirror though, there's nothing to see. Plus it looks as though Buffy changed *really* fast, it would be hard for Xander to adjust the mirror in time, which he tried to do but he accidently pushed it and it closed, making a bunch of noise so Willow and Buffy looked at him suspiciously. I read recently on "The Bronze" postingboard that there was a novelization of the pilot out, titled "The Harvest" and written by Richie Tankersley Cusick. Well, on my lunch break I toddled on over to Barnes & Noble and took a look around. I found no trace of said novelization, although I did see a number of books by the aforementioned Richie Tankersley Cusick in the Young Adults section (which doesn't bode well for an old twenty-something like myself... ) My question is: Has anyone seen the novelization, and if so in what section of the bookstore? Wow, this has all the earmarks of an "Undead" question, but I have honestly never seen it raised (so the speak) before. Ummm, they don't get too close to them? Crosses have to be wielded by someone with faith to work? (*that* is an undead question, but it's not true in the Buffyverse because Master burned himself on a stationary cross underground). Is it an in-joke we don't get, or is he playing with our heads? I say this because after watching several Buffy eps and Buffy: The Movie over the past couple days, I realized that there were several references to pigs. To wit: 1. The school team name in the movie was the Hogs. They even had a mascot suited up like a pig. 2. The school in the TV show is the Razorbacks. 3. The late, lamented (though tasty), school mascot, Herbert. 4. The TV in the A/V room in Prophecy Girl was showing a Porky Pig cartoon. Are there anymore I missed? In much of the traditional vampire lore I've seen, a cross must be consecrated in order to harm or repel a vampire. (Consecrated meaning "blessed" or "made sacred" by blessing.) Most crosses that are put on tombstones probably aren't consecrated, they're just graven images. Anyone can hold a consecrated cross (well, except a vampire), so IMO, it would work regardless of whether or not they're a person of traditional Christian faith or not. Also, the cross that The Master burned himself on was probably consecrated, since he was trapped in a church during the earthquake, and I *think* most churches bless their crosses. I can see Joss having Buffy knock some vamp onto >a cross tombstone, and the vamp being burned by the experience! But what about in NKABOTFD? Didn't Giles try to save Buffy by holding up a cross to the vampire who they thought was the annointed one. The the vampire even backed up and asked "Why does he hurt me?" or something. Just a thought... :) Always, Kymberly hope2@earthlink.net ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 22 Aug 1997 16:46:44 -0400 From: "Zino, Brian" Subject: RE: BUFFY: Buffy Withdrawal Syndrome (BWS) >---------- >From: Mark Safransky[SMTP:x-lander@geocities.com] >Sent: Friday, August 22, 1997 7:22 PM >To: buffy@xmission.com >Subject: Re: BUFFY: Buffy Withdrawal Syndrome (BWS) > >> you tape as many buffy reruns as you can and then have a buffy marathon in >> which you preceed to watch the entire first season in order..all 12 >> hours...complete with saying the lines along with the characters >> >But I've already done this twice! All people who've died in the woods or at sea (Pearl Harbor would be a dangerous place to hang around after dark!). And Pompeii, best not even to think about that! It's been a while since I read up on it, though. I don't remember ever hearing this, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist! What we need on this list is a minister ... or an undertaker. I'll have to see if I can (pardon the pun) dig up anything on this for sure. However, since it seems (at least in the Buffyverse) that the undead are arising from the same ground that the dead are resting peacefully in, I'd say that *all* the cemetary ground in Sunnydale is unconsecrated. This assumes of course that consecrated earth can bind a vampire. The lore is equivocal on this point, and I don't think Joss is concerned about this (or if he is, he hasn't told us, yet). Perhaps, it's just another one of those Zen Riddles that Joss continues to throw at us (The Tao of Buffy). >I'll bet Giles would know! Yes. We must ask Giles. Giles will tell us what to do. :-) I'm feeling in a footloose and fancy free cross-over spirit and here are a couple that I've thought of recently: Party of Buffy Giles and Joyce are mysteriously killed in a card-catalogue accident, leaving Angel to raise the devastated Buffy, who is provided with emotional support by friends Willow and Xander, and special guest star Jennifer Love Hewitt. "I don't understand why you keep defying me!" Angel snarls "I don't have to listen to you! You're not my Watcher!" Buffy counters, bursting into tears. Xander tenderly takes her into his arms, "It's ok, Buff. Nothing's ever gonna split us up. Ever." The Buffy Club Buffy and the Slayerettes after too many unexcused absences get the good old Saturday detention hall. Joining them will be Cordelia and Mitch, given the boot for getting caught making out on campus. Much teenage angst and exploration of social roles ensues, whilst Snyder and Giles share a bonding moment despite their disparate positions in the faculty pecking order. The Good, the Bad, and the Buffy In this "spaghetti vampire western" Buffy et al get throw back in time only to be forced to recreate the gunfight at the OK Corral. Xander fortunately recognizes their opponents to be the crew of the Starship Enterprise, and together they defeat the aliens who had been telepathically clouded their minds. Ah, that was cleansing, like a silliness enema. I can't wait for Sept. 15 to come so that I can banish such thoughts from my mind.
