Hmmm, she certainly was confused at this point, which may have contributed to her bad aim (the desire to kill him was fading quickly). But in the world of sports statistics (I'm a big fan of women's basketball), it would still have to count as a missed shot because intent is so hard to quantify or be certain of. So I've gained us a new fan (and probably more, since he said he was going to tell all his friends). One thing, though. As I showed him "Angel," right after the scene where Darla confronts Angel and taunts him by flipping up the shade, she whisks out the door, and my brother said, "Where is she going? It's daylight." I hadn't noticed that before, so I hereby raise the question, with an apology if it's undead in any way. (I haven't heard anything about it in my admittedly brief tenure, so I thought I'd take a shot at it.) My vote is she went to hang out in the basement--or maybe even the laundry room, where the victims come right to you! At the end of "Angel," my brother said, "This is a really great show. I just hope they never turn it into a soap opera." I have to agree. (Please note, however, that I have nothing against soap operas per se, whose low ranking in the entertainment sphere is probably related to the same tacit sexism that criticizes romance novels as if they're somehow worse than Mack Bolan's The Executioner Number Googolplex. My only objection is that soap operas are rarely amusing, except unintentionally.) That's as fair an answer as any. The show seems to suggest that Darla perhaps left through the same electric tunnel entrance as Angel used to get to his apartment (the door marked "Danger" in the scene right before). But I kind of fancy the idea that Darla left a few dead in her wake, perhaps prompting the landlord/lady to speculate, "We never had a problem with corpses in the laundry room before! That is, until that good-looking mysterious stranger showed up who pays his rent in cash and whom we never see out by the pool during the day. I'll be keeping an eye on that one..." >At the end of "Angel," my brother said, "This is a really great show. I just >hope they never turn it into a soap opera." Ironically, I finally persuaded a very close friend whose sense of perverse humor jibes wonderfully this show to watch it. The first episode she saw: "Angel" in which a major plot point is resolved and thus is a not the best introductory point for the show (would you convert someone to B5 by showing them Into the Fire, I ask you?). She was unimpressed. "Well, between all the meaningful glances, there were a couple of cool moments, like the Todd Oldham thing," said she. Well, not daunted by her initial lackluster response, I encouraged her to catch another episode. So she does. Welcome to the Hellmouth. Her response: "It tries so hard to be arch...but...but..." Aargh. Now I've been trying to convince to watch my recording of the Pack, but she's not biting. So there's a story of one that got away. She was this big too (holding out my hands as if she were a bass). ;-) JJ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Aug 1997 21:42:58 -0400 From: sah Subject: BUFFY: Highlander off topic Please take any and all Highlander discussion (including the Ritchie Ryan discussion) to private email please. Of course now I have health problems which kinda stinks. BTW, everyone asks why I'm a vegetarian and if you care, it's because of the animals. I sort of had luke-warm expectations of this movie before, being based on a young adult's novel and all, but the trailer was awesome! This movie looks like it's going to be as good as Scream. They really pushed the fact that it's by 'the creator of Scream', and it a very similar feel to it, the music and editing, etc. I also heard the radio spot, but that movie trailer, wow...unbelievable. I've heard titles ranging from semi-vegetaria to > ovo-lacto vegetarian. OK, now this is getting WAY off topic, so after this, I'm COMPLETELY shutting up. An ovo-lacto vegetarian is one who eats dairy products (lacto meaning milk) and the ovo part is eggs. You eat things with eggs in them. I don't eat eggs or milk products, and I'm still *quite* young, so I have to eat TUMS and drink calicum enriched orange juice. (BTW, I AM a vegan noname7, but that's getting into specifics.) Just saying your a vegetarian means that you don't eat *any* sort of meat, seafood, pork, or poultry. If you add another name to it (like strict-vegetarian, ovo-lacto vegetarian, lacto-vegetarian, endless....), you can change the whole meaning. There are names you can add to be a "chicken-eater vegetarian" and so on.... obBUFFY: Ah... IMHO, it seems as though the first few episodes go in continuing order. I think the pilot was two episodes because they made it was meant to be a two-hour show. But this time they are just starting a new season. BTW, it seems that BtVS doesn't go along the lines of other TV shows with regards to cliff-hangers. I mean, the season finale was completely resolved and everyone lived happily ever after.
