Hey Dawn, I'm not an expert on accents, but my Buffy grip crew member friend told me that James Marsters (Spike) is an American actor who is emulating a British accent. Since it's not his natural accent, perhaps lots of different elements (even Australian?) are woven into it. Sounds cool though! Could be, but to me it seems at least as likely that she suffers from *power* worship. She gravitates, like some heavenly orb (I was going to say celestial body, but couldn't resist), towards the most powerful enchiladas around. Before Buffy came along, it was the cool jocks with the cars who ruled. Then they started getting beaten with baseball bats, raising some doubts about that strategy. This caused her to go out with a guy who's "mean as a snake," who should be able to scare off whatever maniacs are hanging about. Next he turns up dead, and now, with body parts turning up in dumpsters, it's ... the losers who hang out in the library but carry some very sharp sticks who rule. I *do* think she engages in hero worship - but her biggest personal hero has to be herself, so that explain things! Buffy and the Slayerettes saving the entire school from destruction - *if* that is what the promos suggest - could turn them from underground hipsters into Big Slayers On Campus (I mean, how could everyone just forget that?). And Cordelia would be ahead of the crowd as usual by having ingratiated herself with them, which is how the rich stay, er, the popular stay popular. Just some random thoughts. I look forward to further development of this relationship as regards the "Slayer Club." In fact, I was impressed with the growth of all their relationships in the first two episodes of this season. Giles is quite subtle and was endearingly pleasantly surprised when he saw Buffy after the summer vacation. I'm glad that we got to see Willow and Xander for a few moments without Buffy. Thanks for bonking me on the head, Ann. I tend to get rather pedantic (I'd love to have a cup of coffee with Giles.) And you're right, the episode was totally against the cutting up of women ('twould be silly to have an episode where it would be), but I think it's the subtlety of the situation that's horrific -- Darryl was reanimated "whole." Granted, we don't really know how Chris was able to give him life so quickly after his death, but that's not the point. On a critique of this ep, regardless of plot, we still see a "whole" man and "parts" of women -- esp. the stress on creating a *perfect* woman. Eh. They are not real. They are intended as fiction in the series. I can accept this. What I cannot accept is taking something that is real (ie humans) and having them do something impossible. If a demon or witch chopped up various body parts and assembled them together I could believe that because demons and witches are not real and therefore not confined to any sort of "physical laws". I just rewatched these two scenes that have been labeled as an editing error, and I had a different thought. The scene in the car comes just after the scene with Angel in Buffy's bedroom. After he leaves, she rolls over in bed and a song starts playing as we move to the scene in the car. When we get to the scene in the school, the song ends. I think that she is having a dream here while still in bed, i.e., the whole car sequence is imaginary and only in her dream. It seems to make sense that thinking about Angel as she was would lead her into a pensive dream state, which is what the entire sequence in the car appeared to be to me. When we reach the school scene, the music ends and all passivity is gone. Buffy is no longer dreaming and is back in reality. And thus no continuity error, since she can dream herself into any of her clothes. Coincidentally she dreams of an outfit that she later wears (maybe because she vaguely remembers it from her dream). At least this makes more sense than assuming that Josh has incompetent editors working for him. We have to remember that in BtVS, there is a lot more going on that what we see on the surface. I mean, I know this could turn into an Undead Question if it hasn't already, but I always thought, from her reactions in WttH, that she had a Watcher before Giles. Of course, until we see it on the screen, it's not canon, so unless he's got something else planned already, maybe Joss will change his mind :-). They are part of her past and not part of the series. Therefore, they could exist, but they are irrelevant to what is happening to her now. We do know that she was a slayer before, and had a previous Watcher, why couldn't it have been Merrick, Buffy never named her former Watcher did she? It was discussed before and it was established that Joss wrote the movie, however it was changed so much that it was very little like his original. My opinion is that we should take the movie as a "Hollywood" exageration of what really happened at Buffy's school in L.A. Some grains and smatters of truth, but the names have been changed to protect the innocent, kind of thing. Did you ever see a T.V. movie based on a real incident? Sometimes the movie is so far off what really happened that it is unrecognizable. I'm sorry to keep harping on this, but having seen the movie and knowing that Joss wrote it, it is really hard for me to discount it entirely. And I do see references now and then in the series to things from the movie, or at least references that seem to refer to the movie. Of course, all of this is just my opinion, and probably means nothing to anyone else. Slayer5454@aol.com (Melissa S. Heckard) "Love makes you do the wacky." Somewhere on one of the `Buffy-sites', I ran across some interesting filk songs, including some for Ms. Calendar. One of them was `I Cast My Spells On Solstice Day' (to the tune of: `I Heard The Bells On Xmas Day) that has a final line about scanning Buffy onto the net to fight demons. If you count them as separate, you have 12 episodes. If you count WttH and The Harvest as one, you've only got 11. People have been wrapping their suspension of disbelief around her book (and all the movie versions) for a long time.
