In another email I suggested this, but it wasn't truly confirmed. Anyone else have opinions on this? >> Yeah, I know, one too many quote lines. Sorry about that. Anyway, I assumed that Angel brought Spike over, given the "sire" comment. Isn't it common for a vampire to take under his wing, so to speak, a newbie that he or she just converted? LeStat did this with Louis in "Interview". This would account for the "Yoda" comment and Angel's desires to teach his progeny. Then I went and rewatched the ep, confirmed that Spike said "You were my sire, man", (not "You sired me") and double checked the dictionary. Yes, it defines sire as 1. a father or forefather, 2. the male parent of an animal, 3. (archaic) a title and form of address to a superior. The first two were expected, but the archaic form is what got me. How many movies set in jolly ol' England have you seen where a serf or peasant addresses the socially higher ups as "sire"? I thought so, and it has nothing to do with procreation of the species. Additionally, the etymology of the word is from the Latin "senior", meaning "older". This sort of annoyed me because I WANT the story line to be something along the lines of Angel bringing Spike over because he wanted a bud to hang with during his early reign of terror. I can see the two of them wreaking havoc all over Europe, feeding on gypsy girls who were dumb as posts. On a completely different note (then you can go on to the next email), what's the deal with Prague? Druscilla seems to be suffering some sort of vampire depression after visiting the city, and Angel and Darla spoke of the good times they had there during an earthquake. Although I'll agree about SAR, Buffy seemed to still be `with it' in that fight in SH. She and Spike had knocked each other down a few times already, but this time, he was too close for her to try to get up. Her best move at the time would have been to let Spike take *one more step*, then go for a knee-kick or a leg sweep. Okay, bear with me, this takes a little explaining: The only time we've seen MIBs in the story so far was in IG, and I always had the impression they knew *exactly* who/what Buffy is. Dig out your IG tapes, and look at the scene where they come in the Bronze to take Marcie away. Both agents keep all their attention focused completely on Buffy, and one keeps his hand on his weapon almost the whole time. They ignore Cordelia--okay, she was still tied up--and they almost seemed to ignore *Marcie* once they were sure they had her. They deferred slightly to Buffy, even though they still didn't really answer any of her questions, and darn near *backed* out of the room, until they were sure she wasn't going to make any moves. Everything they did says they knew they were *not* facing your average petite 16-yr. old girl! Snyder knows "that Summers girl" is always around when these weird, dangerous things happen, but I'm willing to bet he's totally clueless about the whole Slayer thing. He still might be a Fed, but I doubt it. MIB? My guess is No. Dave (templar@sound.net) "I don't trust you; you're a vampire. Oh, I'm sorry, is that on offensive term? Buffy had to stay until the end because she was drafted into setting the event up. Xander and Willow probably each told their folks "I'm staying to help Buffy clean up afterwards" or something, so the Harris and Rosenbergs had gone. That's a duty Giles would have taken very seriously. And, let's not forget what happened the last time Giles and Buffy had this argument, in PG. I'm not suggesting that Buffy is going to deck Giles everytime they argue, and neither of them have ever mentioned that scene again, but it *did* change the nature of their relationship, I'm sure. Cordelia was a much better character when she was being the "bitka" of the show. I'm more in favour of Buffy's support group being just Willow, Xander, and Giles. Then again, we know these girls start becoming Slayers in their teenage years, but who knows how long some of them last? Just trying to be optimistic... Personally Dru freaked me out too much for me to try and "keep" something of hers. :-)) I wanted to thank everyone for their diligence in posting their fave parts, that way I know what to go back and look for. I happened to be looking away at the point when Xander is searching Buffy's purse...so I totally missed it. Chris 2 writes <<>> Me, me....I have an opinion. The way I understood it, was that not only did Angel "make" Spike but that he also trained him. There was a refrence to Angel having taught Spike better than to leave his perimeters unprotected, so there is the training aspect; I think though that the "sire" term concerns him "making" Spike. Therefore I totally agree with Viashino that Angel must be going through some serious angst about what he did whilst he was bad. Did anyone else notice that when Angel and Spike first hugged that Spike got this *look* on his face, my first thought was that perhaps Angel was wearing a cross or something to help him ward off his inner demon....then I thought that perhaps Spike just *sensed* that there was something different about Angel. But when no one else mentioned the *look* I decided that I imagined the whole thing. Was I the only one that saw this? BTW I have tried to avoid doing this...but I have contacted several people on the tape trade board and I either get no response or a negative response. I am looking for someone who can send me either WttH, The Witch and Nightmares, or if someone has every ep and nothing to do, a complete set of episodes. If anyone on here is willing to do that I would be eternally greatful and would be happy to compensate you with money and lots of praise. :-)) Oh and please E-mail me privately....don't wanna tick of the list moms with lots of OT posts. I think the vision has changed since then, read on... >I thought Joyce was way too accepting of the fact that Buffy fought off a >gang single-handedly. I think there needed to be more resistance... I suspect TPTB decided that two staples of the old season, namely "Joyce's Cluelessness to Buffy's Slayerness" and "The Anointed One" were going to be hinderances to the desired flow of the second season. I base this on the fact that they sure got rid of both in a *hurry* (like things that no longer had any usefulness, a true Spikean attitude!). A1 had to go because of the actor's impending adolescence thing, but I thought S&D would toy with him (catlike) a few more episodes, taunt him, tease him, force him to expose his powers. Maybe it was felt that the Joyce oblivious thing would just get tiresome and irritating after awhile, especially if S&D starting setting Sunnydale figuratively on fire regularly, requiring constant intervention from Buffy, with even Snyder knowing. First of all, I thought this was the funniest show I've seen yet. I was little disappointed at that fact that therw wasn't much love connection going on,but it was cool. I have a question. The remark that Angel made at the end of the show to Xander, is it just me or did that make the chance of them actually becoming friends, worse? I think that was wrong on Angel's part. I think the tension between them is going to get worse. ------------------------------ End of buffy Digest V1 #337 *************************** To subscribe to buffy Digest, send the command: subscribe buffy-digest in the body of a message to "majordomo@xmission.com".
