"They're really a nice bunch of people," Head says of Sarah Michelle Gellar and her ghoul-getting pals. "You always hear this thing like, 'Oh, we're like a family,' but it really is true -- we all hang out together. Nicky [Nicholas Brendon, who plays Xander] has a rocking chair outside his trailer and we all end up sitting out there. We kinda gravitate to each other's trailers and just hang out. It's pretty cool." The self-effacing British actor, perhaps best known for his work on those long-running Taster's Choice ads, tells us he passed on a part in Poltergeist: The Legacy because he instinctively understood his role as Buffy's brainy vampire authority. "I had a pretty good handle on the part from the beginning," says Head, who brings a dry, understated sense of comedy to his scholarly character. "I went in to [the producers] saying, 'This can be somewhere between Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman; where do you want it?' And they said, 'Well, maybe in the middle,' and I thought, 'Well, that does it, really.' At his strongest, Giles is Alan Rickman and at his weakest, Hugh Grant." Although he promises some upcoming surprises involving his character, he's not quite sure what they are. "Giles isn't what he seems by any means. He's hiding a dark, dark past," Head says. "When I was told that in episode eight my dark past was gonna be revealed, I said, 'Well, what is it? Tell me.' And they went, 'No, no, no,' because they knew that I would immediately start to play that. There would be some little undertone in there, like, 'Ooh -- something new to play with.' " -- Steve Simels - ----- Hmm Would've watched him on P: TL? Not sure to scary for me, IMHO! So that's why he blinks alot, Hugh Grant, but as I've said before, on Grant it makes me want to hit him and Giles it's cute. Practically every day of the year is a feast day for someone. Now whether or not it is celebrated as an extra-special feast is a different matter. St. Patrick's Day is ignored in Italy, just as St. Joseph's Day is no big deal in Ireland. St. Nicholas' Day is dutifully toned down everywhere because it coincides with Christmas. But actually, I was leaning toward the explanation that the terms "Saint, " "Crusade," and "Feast" were all from the vampire's point of view, and ironic. The vampires can declare any day that they wish a feast, just as they can refer to any one as "saint." ObBuffy: Do remember that the literal translation of "Christ" is "Annointed One." The AO can been seen as such in this context: He came to change the ways of the Vampires- in a way that somewhat retained tradition but brought a new light to the old laws (rites, whatever)- but his time was short, and his presence soon created different sects (those who wanted to cling to the old, those who went with his teaching, those who abhorred his ways) until he was betrayed by one who not supposed to be his enemy- and soon after was killed. I know this is stretching it, but I like the correlations. ANyhow, I wonder if the Annointed One will return...... who knows. Then she ask Giles if he will train her. Which would make you believe that becoming a slayer is something of a mystical lottery. That another girl is chosen upon the death of the present slayer. Thus, a slayer is always around to battle evil. But, IIRC in the WttHM, Giles himself said something to the effect "for each generation a slayer is born, yadda, yadda". This would give support to the theory that Buffy was born as the Slayer. The movie of course which isn't gospel, said that For each generation a slayer is Born, and it was always the same soul. Upon her death she would be reborn almost moments after , and grow up with becoming the slayer as her destiny. But, with Buffy's remarks in PG, it would seem that Joss wants to lend toward the mystical lottery side. It might depend on how you define "generation". For most of the purposes we deal with every day, "generation" = "~20 years" (the time for a group of people to be born, grow up, and start having children of their own). But "generation" can also have other values in other contexts. For example: Transworld Consortium buys out Universal Exports(1). Transworld fires all the old senior management at Universal, promotes some from middle management and fills the rest with outsiders. One might then speak og the "old" and "new" generations at Universal ... even though the age difference (on average) could be as little as 5 years. Let's make an assumption and work backwards: there is always a Slayer (or Slayer-in-training) somewhere. Since we know the life-span of Slayers is rather curtailed, and could even be a matter of months, there have to be a fair number of proto-Slayers out there at any moment. I'll try to think of a better one next time.) -Aliesha GASP! - Keeper of the Hot Plate Keeper of Buffy's Bad Lemonade ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Oct 1997 18:48:05 -0700 From: Sai Wong Subject: BUFFY: Take a Chance with the Stars Hi, Not sure if everyone knows about this (still trying to catch up on the stock pile of 600+ Buffy emails) But there is a celebrity casino event and the following Buffy stars are scheduled to appear : Nicholas Brendon - Xander Anthony Stewart Head - Giles Armin Shimerman - Snyder Visit the following URL for more info : http://www.io.com/~jlc/chance/stars_97.html Sai saiwong@microsoft.com Keeper of Buffy's red lipstick Keeper of Buffy's Dubba Dubba dance script Keeper of Willows Microsoft software collection Keeper of Xanders love for pork/school mascot Keeper of Xanders Dubba Dubba dance skills Keeper of Spikes David Bowie voice Keeper of Gile's coffee beans (GASP) Keeper of Cordelia's drivers licence Keeper and Adopted Parent of Grrr Arrg end credit mutant ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 06 Oct 1997 21:57:18 -0500 From: KiNeTiC Subject: BUFFY: OZ actor. When the mummy dissapears, why is it that the museum doesn't notice? They usually keep a close eye on those kind of things. And also, why is it that Buffy, Giles etc. had all this free access to the museum at like 10:00 at night? I think this is something that maybe Joss Whedon overlooked. Subject: BUFFY: Buffy: The mummy episode Uh...this wasn't that great an episode. It had its good parts but the intrigue wore off real fast when the mummy sucked the exchange students blood. Now if they didn't show that...that would have kept my suspense. And I'll admit that the love triangle was an interesting thing to through in but I don't watch for love stories. Now, that commercial for 1-800-Collect at the end of the show got my attention real fast and I freaked when I saw it. I don't know if I am going to make the phone calls but I have to say that the commercial was cool. Now, I really must say that I am somewhat perturbed at which way Xander's character is going. Why in the world, when he has beauty and smarts right in front of him, must he continually make a mockery of it? Willow loves Xander, Xander thinks of Willow as a friend, BUT, does he have to use her friendship like a water faucet? It really irritated the crud out of me that he is so blatantly uncool about the whole boy/girl thing. Anyhow, other than that, it was a pretty good episode. Best line in the whole show though was - Xander : You wouldn't happen to be a preying mantis would you? Laughed my head off! But it was well done, as always. I am glad they finally put another character in there that has enough intelligence to realize that Willow is all that AND a bag of chips! Unfortunately I was looking forward to Willow and Xander as a couple! Well, there's my two cents worth! Hi! Loved this episode. I loved the way Oz (Seth Green) looked at Willow! I hope him and Willow get together!! Joss and Gang truly did an impressive job with this one. Xander was so brave. Willow looked so beautiful whatever she wore. Her beauty was radiating with her smile among many things. One thing missing in this episode: Angel. Is that good or bad? I can't really say what my favorite parts are because I loved every bit! Especially the costume party. Xander line about girls running away was classic. I think he feared that the IMG would run away from him like some others. But she truly did love him with all her heart as did he. Even Buffy felt for the girl at the end as she talked about the prophecy and how she thought she was going to die. Next weeks episode The Reptile Boy looks really good. Buffy and Cordelia are shown chained up to a wall. Some kind of sacrifice thing. It looks good also. Did you guys see the Buffy The Vampire Slayer 1-800-COLLECT Commercial? The contest looks great and the prizes are not to shaby either *grin* I think one of them was a spot of the show to be staked or a bit part....that would be a lot of work but fun! Very good.... My complaint on it: Way Angel deprived. It would have been even better...... Who else would have liked to see Angel jealous of that guy... his name escapes me at the moment (and I just finished watching 10 minutes ago!)? It might have been too repetitive of the jealous of Xander seen in SAR, but I think it would have been sooo cute..... then again I'm very biased..... Did anyone else feel sorry for the poor mummy girl? Was she a past slayer of her generation? That's the way I took it as when she was talking how she was deprived of a normal life and all that. She really did seem to love Xander (then again that whole sucking the life out of people might put a strain on the relationship). Loved Willow's costume. I wonder if that Oz guy from the band is gonna be the new guy for Willow. She should have someone who appreciates her. He seemed like a pretty nice, normal guy. Hey, at least he doesn't go cutting up the bodies of dead girls! Xander is again doomed in his love life. Poor guy. First attacked by a giant bug and now an ancient shriveled up corpse. Ok, I had so much more to say, but this is all I can think of at the moment.
