A cheaper, hollow bust would be much lighter (you quote 500lbs for a solid one, and I have no reason to doubt you), but would still pack a pretty good wallop with some momentum behind it. One major component in all this invincibility talk for the Slayerettes is the adreniline surge that comes from fighting for your life, or the life of someone close to you. Xander may joke about laughing in the face of danger then hiding until it goes away, but his attitude is much different when a friend is in danger (entering the tunnels for Jesse, coming to Willow's defense on numerous occasions). Willow has shown herself to be a quick thinker, throwing holy water on Darla, the bust in SH to rescue Cordelia. Given the opportunity, I'm sure Cordelia would do much the same. Of course, she'd likely have more attitude in doing so, like when she bit the vampire in PG ("there, see how you like it!"). And what better than a piece of Detroit's finest steel? There are other cars that would suit her just as well, but I like GTOs. For comparison: the small city I grew up in Missouri (pop. ~60,000) I could walk across in an hour at a normal pace. And even in high school, lots of kids walked home. If we postulate Sunnydale as being half that size, and that some of that population lives way on the fringes of town ... and since the wether is not an issue ... yes, I think they _do_ walk a lot. I wholly disagree about waiting - I really enjoy seeing Joss, et alia putting in these small seeds to grow later on. There are very important reasons for this: 1) You pay attention a bit more, and you have fodder for speculation. And isn't that a favorite pastime for just about everyone on this list? Just look at the what Spike and Dru have done for our little fevered imginations! 2) It's more believable. Life doesn't wrap itself up in neat little one-day or one week snippets for our consideration. You can look at very few things and say this started *here* and ended *there*. If we see Oz jonsesin' for Willow awhile before he up and asks her out, that establishes character and believability. That's alot better than seeing some guy fall for Willow right away (though everyone should!) and saying to yourself, "Uh-oh, a non-Slayerette love interest. This man is TOAST!" And, of course, from a television standpoint it attracts a larger and more varied audience -- some tune in for the story, some tune in for those Buffy Kicks(tm), etc. (And, yes, she should be winning more fights, darn it! We need to see more of "the look" she gave Shiela in SH.) I'm also happy because putting long-term plot lines in there indicates that they expect there to be a number of future shows. Yea! So Xander could still be set up if Dru decides to troll the Bronze for a few "dinner dates." But she would have to engage some kind of sanity for the small talk or his quite justifiable (by now) paranoia regarding dating would most certainly be activated. And as for the Ampada- hello! She was even more "normal" than the other. The only bad judgement that I think Xander has is that he forgets that living on the hellmouth means that no one is necessarily what they seem. I mean, what seems more harmless than a fling with a foreign exchange student?? (i mean that with great respect :-) This, I think, was a smart choice on Xander's part, because she was supposedly from another country- far from the evil of the Hellmouth- and in his eyes, that made her a good bet. Oh well, better luck next time. But let me remind you that no one has had good romantic love to date (IMO) (no pun intended)..... although Giles and J.C. seem to be on their way. They're both lovably creepy little guys. Plus, Snyder's revelation of vampire awareness in his conversation with Policeman Bob suggests his role may be becoming more pivotal than just background humorous relief. Lisa Ouch! Yeah, in hindsight his desires have nearly gotten him killed twice in the romance department. Better judgement would suggest that he go for a known quantity, a safe bet, like Willow, especially living on the Hellmouth. His line about having *no* romantic feelings for Willow is probably overstated given that he almost kissed her in WSWB. And I was agreeing with you wholeheartedly about his being blinded by hormones until miss hayes brought up the interesting point that in any place other than the Hellmouth, Xander's choices wouldn't seem *that* dangerous (although it's never wise to date one's teachers, IMHO). His main flaw is that he seems to keep falling for dark, mysterious strangers. They are the stuff of fantasy in general, but the stuff of suicide in Sunnydale. Attractive newcomers should sound Xander's alarms immediately by this point, and if they don't then maybe he *is* hormonally (or self- destructively) blind, IMHO. (hmmm, Dru is a dark, attractive newcomer...but her insanity would put him off...or would it?). >Someday, his poor judgment will really smack him in the face... Um, as I recall, he's won all but one fight with the other vampires. As for the one that just rose, he was in a middle of an argument with Buffy over whether he was jealous or not, I'll say that's distracting enough. Even Buffy was majorly distracted that she lost her stake. In PG, he killed the vampire less than a second when it attacked him. In WSWB, it was more of a wrestling match but he definitely had the upper hand, he and the other bearded vampire were both holding a wooden splintered piece but Angel shifted to his other hand and use it to drive the wooden scrap piece into the other vampire. That really does show his prowess at fighting...and then in School Hard, he fought off three vampires ganging up on him and Xander. It was two on one...they couldn't best him, they knew that they also were in danger of loosing their lives...then Angel knocked the vamp off of Xander before she could bite him...they ran off. If he wasn't a good fighter why would they run off? He was on top of his game and they knew it. We haven't seen enough of Angel's fighting skills to really pass much of a judgement on him, have we? I'd like to see more of it and from what I've been hearing lately, looks like we will in the seventh ep. It's out at some select bookstores who know to put it out as soon as it comes through the back door. Especially to keep me from coming in everyday and bugging them again. I read it in an hour (fast reader) and enjoyed it. Definitely great monsters and the bit in the school with Giles, Willow and Xander was pretty good. The references date this as first season Halloween. And I loved Willow and Xander's choices for Halloween costumes for the party at the Bronze. I think the authors went a little overboard on Cordelia, but I'm betting they started writing this early during the first season and she was still majorly bitchy then. All in all though, it was a good read. Now I can't wait for Coyote Moon.
