Last night's episode of Party of Five contained a very familiar song to most Buffy fans. In the scene where Charlie and Nina were driving down a street, a song played on the radio. This was the exact same Four Star Mary song that Xander and Ampata danced to in "Inca Mummy Girl". Kinda' nice to see 'em get exposure on multiple shows -- even though we don't actually *see* them on either show. Now if only they'd get their album released somtime soon... Final details are being worked out and as soon as Sarah is notified, I'll give as many details as I can about it before the official press release is announced in December. There are some other developments in the way. In regards to Sarah's lack of activity on the posting board: As I've stated before, she's very busy and I doubt she would have time to get as involved as the rest of the cast, but she also stays away from the 'net because of a small fear of it. Yesterday she said that she's a little scared of the net because she's worried about getting a stalker. Of course, this is highly unlikely just from the 'net, but understandable for someone who's never experienced it firsthand and doesn't really understand it very well and just hears the negative things about it. Also, an official fan page for Sarah is tentatively under negotiation and will hopefully see some development within a month (or sooner depending on how much free time I have). Hopefully we can have something up by New Years if everything works out right. This will probably follow along with an official fan club. For $20, I'm thinking a good idea would be to approach the same way some of the Xena/Herc fan clubs are done (I'm not on either one so I may be mistaken here): A Video welcome, 2 signed 8 x 10s, 4 or 5 other unsigned photos, monthly newsletters, and maybe some type of Buffy promotion, depending on what the WB's plans are for an official Buffy fan club (of which I've heard nothing about yet). Also, I'll try to set up a star chat with Sarah, although I'll probably have to settle for a question/answer interview via the telephone, using questions from the people on Xmission and the Buffy Board. I'll keep everyone updated. Hi All! I loved this episode, just like the others. Is it my imagination, or are ALL of the episodes so far (both seasons) consistently outstanding? S P O I L E R S O T O S P E A K The lines were great, and I love them adding more to Cordelia (the kick that subdued Ethan, the nerve to ask the Homicide cops to fix her ticket for going down the one way street, and especially one line no one mentioned yet: "I'm going to be in therapy until I'm 30" when the possessed corpse turned to blue slime. I agree that Angel had a too small a role, but given the storyline, there really wasn't much that he could do this time. Besides, there are plenty of new episodes on the way right? But it's been danger >from the outside. In this case she had a demon *inside* her. And that has >probably made her rethink her role as a part of the Buffy team. This is a valid and logical point, and here's one more extrapolation-- Jenny was also coping with the fact that she (through the demon commanding her) did violence to others that she cares about. She battled Buffy; warred with Angel. Worst of all, she belittled, attacked, attempted to seduce, and undermined Giles, the man she's beginning a relationship with. So it's not only what happened to her, but what "she" did to others that she needs to sort out. I'm not surprised she needs a tad of space.... > I don't want to believe that this was all just a game with her. >And I hope we haven't seen the end of the Calendar/Giles relationship. I >thought she was very good for him. Kind of like a grown up version of >Buffy. Jenny is exceptional for Giles because she takes him away from himself, his Watcher role, and his fears for Buffy. She has been, up to this point, the only character we have seen with whom he can interact and establish a sense of himself as an adult. (Principal Snyder's an authority figure, Angel a necessary resource, Ethan a mortal enemy, and Buffy et al. are pupils.) Jenny has been a peer professionally and someone who's managed to see past the tweed to the valuable person. While Buffy's gaining in her knowledge of and respect towards Giles, they will always be the Slayer and the Watcher. For these reasons, I do hope that these events are merely some rough seas in the story of Giles and Jenny, and that Whedon sees fit to have Jenny overcome her fears to confront both the price and the value of a relationship with Giles, who is the Watcher, again. After all, if the role of Watcher is hereditary--as Giles has intimated by mentioning that his father and grandmother were Watchers and that he was fated to be a Watcher, against which he rebelled--wouldn't the question of his having children who might also "have to" be Watchers be an interesting one to explore? > The really sad part is that Giles will probably try to keep Ms. >Calendar away from him now, even if she doesn't distance herself. She was >almost destroyed by something he created and there has to be a lot of guilt >involved in something like that. Especially for someone as sweet and >caring as he is. First thought on the janitor working at night was, how many janitors must they go through if they hang around the school at night. Plus if the janitor lives, how many secrets might he know. Deidra was way creepy, but why didn't Phillip at least try and run, she wasn't exactly moving like Jesse Owens. Same goes when she attacks him, at least try and fight back Phillip. I'm sure Giles welcomed a workout, that he didn't get any bruises. Liked the "anywhere but here" game, I think I have played that myself once or twice. Plus the gang's comments on Giles help set up the rest of the episode. I for one want to meet "Amy Yip". LOL "answer that or just glare". Poor Xander he can never get a break, "its my best day ever", I guess Buffy isn't taking computers. Great exchange between, Giles and Jenny. Wow, a big kiss in the school, during school hours. Giles you naughty boy you. The biggest shocker was that the cops showed up to investigate a death on campus. This might have been a good episode for Snyder to show up in. Cordelia was written a little ditzy in this scene, much like last week. Loved the whole blood heist idea, I was waiting for Spike and Dru to pop up as Bonnie and Clyde. They didn't attack the delivery men, just took delivery. Interesting it was referred to as a product, who were they blood dealers. I found Angel rushing into save the day, a little forced like his appearance in SAR. At least for now, till we find out if he had another reason for being there. I think everyone remembers the bags in Angel's fridge. Was he also there to take the blood? Was he working with the others? Buffy's raised eyebrows to Angel, when she said "can you make sure the hospital gets the rest of this" was funny. First time to see Giles's home, he was messed up, got to see ASH act in a different way. Lots of interesting little keeper items, found in his home. I was curious was Deidra killed in England? If so did the demon follow Phillip to the States in that body, and you thought smoking on a plane was rough. I also think "paper is going to make a big comeback" , Could Cordelia and Xander do anymore of a "Moonlighting" redux. I don't want to meet any of Xander's family, particularly Uncle Rory. "Booze, whores and fur flying". I decided, I really don't like Ethan, dropping a book case on Buffy. Was interesting to get a feel for the size of the library. Ethan can take punch it appears, Giles went down in PG, but Buffy may have been holding back. Why was Ethan looking for Giles? He's been in town, knows that Buffy is the Slayer, knows Giles works at the school, yet doesn't know where Giles lives. If Ethan had the mark of Igon, why did it go after Buffy in the library, instead of heading straight for Ethan. I thought Giles was going to kick the heck out of Ethan again in front of everybody. Why did the demon finally bust out of the cage, it still showed none of the power, it showed when it took Jenny. I guess it was because of an alive host vs a dead one. Who rushes to protect Cordelia, Xander showing some bravery. Best line of the night "I'm going to be in therapy, till I'm thirty". Second biggest shocker of the night Cordy's " I care about Giles, to" , and wanting to help out. Aly was great doing her impression of Giles when they were researching stuff on Igon. I guess it shows they can get along with out them. I don't know if Igon takes on some of the personality of its host, like a vampire or not. But, that was one horny little demon in Giles's apartment. Glad, Buffy finally tried to explain things to Giles. He sounded a lot like Buffy when he talked about his destiny. But I don't think I can take hearing Giles say "extraordinary high" in a sentence. ASH was good with the "I'm sorry" line. When did it get dark? If I am correct they met for class at 9am. Buffy interrupted then went to the library, found Ethan, called Giles who then rushed over. The demon breaks loose and Giles leaves with Jenny/Igon. So at best all this took an hour, so its around 10am. I can buy the gang staying at school all day to research, but was Jenny/Igon with Giles all day, if so why wait to try and kill him. A new trend seems to be developing, instead of Buffy getting knocked on her back in fights, she is getting cold-cocked from behind, twice in as many weeks. Ethan was a coward, much like Ford last week, willing to get others killed to help himself. Why didn't he just remove the tattoo, and leave town. No need to inflict the pain on Buffy, what if Igon had possessed Buffy, then he would have been trouble. "What if I kill you, will that blow the whole karma thing", was in line with the tough Buffy attitude. ROTFLOL , Xander ready to throw down with Cordelia, "12 years of you, I'm snapping" Cordy was little below the belt with the "I've seen you fight" line. But, once again we have Willow to take charge of the situation, loved the "get out of my library". Willow is really showing she can step up to the plate, "Jr. Watcher supreme". So when Giles fell out, and saw those visions, was it because Ethan was removing his tattoo. It also appeared that Buffy may have shared those visions, or did Giles just see Buffy. I suppose since he knew he had to go there. I can't believe, he actually used acid on himself. Does this guy even feel pain. I'm not sure after Halloween. The demon sure could use some acne cream. Acted like it still wanted Ethan, and almost seemed to sniff him and go for Buffy. Again the Jenny/Igon seemed much stronger than before. Giles's tried to be a hero again, ordering Buffy to leave. I didn't like the telekinesis it showed for the first time. Why didn't it use that little trick earlier? Angel to the rescue again, I guess that is why it had to be dark. Neat plan that Willow came up with, using Angel to fight off the demon. Igon couldn't sense that Angel had a demon, yet knew he was dead. Interesting answer to a question, Angel still has a demon inside him. LOL, "hit him till he bled", perhaps in a future episode. Ethan seems to have the same talent as Angel, in disappearing. I guess he will turn up again with a new evil plot, interesting human villain. I would think that Giles would pay for the tattoo removal. Wouldn't a doctor require a parent's consent for a medical procedure, even removing a tattoo? Buffy and Xander were right that Willow should be a Watcher, I guess that is what they are leaning toward. To bad that Jenny is suffering from PTS, seems reminisce of Buffy in WSWB. The end Buffy/Giles talk was nice, a complete role reversal from last week. Glad they let Buffy show some compassion and understanding for Giles, with the "something in common" line. So they were training during class hours again. Overall, I liked this episode, I did feel it had some logic flaws but it was still a good time. Special Kudos, to ASH, SMG, and LaMorte. I thought it was a darker episode than some, even last weeks episode. The one-liners were few and far between in this episode. Part of that is I think the tone that ASH gave the show with his performance. It gave some interesting insights into Giles past, and how he can empathize with Buffy at times. Seems word as come down that if you put Xander and Cordelia in a scene, have them do a David and Maddie. That is fine, but let them also do something else, second straight week, Xander was "one line guy". I look forward to see if they continue to push Willow into the future Watcher character. Some other questions to be answered is what effect will "Dark Ages" have on the future of Giles and Jenny's relationship. Also, any future ramifications on the Buffy/Giles relationship. Now that some of Giles past is out, will ASH play the character any different, or will he be written any different. Still no explanation on the "ripper" nickname, unless it as to do with him grabbing hair. Sorry to see Xander return to the wussy loser mode, but they needed some comic relief since Giles was serious. Lesson for the episode, Tattoos are bad, don't get one or a demon may come after you.
