Comments Spoilers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 Gonna keep it short and just mention the most interesting things, to me :-). 1) I really really really really really hate it that Kendra was as good a slayer as Buffy. I wanted Buffy to be the best -- Buffy's my hero! 2) How come Kendra was training since childhood if she was only "called" when Buffy died a few months ago? 3) I think I'm going to rename WML2 as "Gratuitous David Boreanaz Chest Shots." Although I must admit, seeing him tied up and writhing was ... ahem ... intriguing. Now if only they could get _ASH_ to do that ... actually, I was a little surprised at the amount of sexual innuendo between Dru/Angel/Spike -- after all, it's a PG show and a significant portion of its audience is pre-teen. But hey, it did give us the line "Salty Goodness" back in season one, so I guess anything's possible. 4) Loved loved _loved_ the Bride of Frankenstein gender-reversal final shot. Very very cool. 5) The B/G 'shipper bells go off: Loved seeing Buffy's jealousy of Giles's enthusiasm over Kendra, but what was missing was the big sappy Buffy/Giles reconciliation scene where he tells her she's the only Slayer he ever wanted and he never gave her the handbook because she was too creative and advanced for it, and then their lips meet and Giles gets arrested .... whoops! Better save that last part for fanfic. 6) Cordy and Xander: I OBJECT!!! I OBJECT!! Now, I must admit I absolutely adored their first kiss, because it was such a wonderful parody of the standard filmic love/hate relationship, right down to that _hysterically_ funny music. And the Xander's tag line about having to get out of there was the perfect capper -- but that's where it should have ended, dammit! It would have been so _funny_ if the whole Xander/Cordy thing had been built up over the last several episodes to culminate in that single kiss and their horror afterwards -- _that_ would have been good! To revisit the whole thing at the end was just _annoying_. And I still have my feminist objection that their whole relationship is too Taming of the Shrew. 7) I wish Kendra had died. Because how is Buffy supposed to say she's _the_ Slayer anymore? Waaah.... 8) Cool to see Giles getting more active. Well, maybe not so cool. I liked Bookish Giles, but as long as they're going to reveal this Dark Ripper Past, he may as well start utilizing some of those skills. That's all for me. Gonna sleep. We have been seeing ALOT of slayer angst lately, but I think that Buffy HAS, after this ep, only now accepted her duty as the slayer totally and fully. The fact is, there IS another slayer. She could easily say 'no thanks, it's been fun", but instead she got JEALOUS, and worked that much harder at her slayer duties. I think that was her biggest problem. The fact that Kendra had to point out to her being the slayer was WHO SHE WAS, and that Buffy herself had taught her that, was a big step towards finding her identity for Buffy. As for Buffy's training, the movie explained some of that. If I remember right, her watcher wasn't sure it was her, until she started having the dreams and getting those cramps around vampires that seemed to have disappeared in the transition to television. I guess that would make the Angel thing kind of impossible, huh? ;) Her watcher in LA also told her that she was abnormally gifted when it came to fighting and such. Considering that Kendra has been training since childhood, it is OBVIOUS that Buffy has more natural ability than Kendra, since she has only been at it since she turned 16. Assuming it was out of country it had to be pretty expensive. Maybe the so called Watcher Society bought it. This just leads me to believe that there is a group of sorts that selects a chosen few to be watchers and future slayers. How else would this be explained. Maybe we could have an episode where we do in fact learn of a society that heads the watchers and slayers and deems Buffy "unresponsible",and "insubordinate" and her powers are taken there leaving her powerless like in Halloween. That is something Joss has indicated and we have to remeber otherwise we make assumptions that are not correct. As far as the cramps go we have seen nothing in the show to relate that she has those. Giles hass indicated she should be able to hone in on one easily. But we have yet to see this. Well, their culture knew about the vampires and slayers; ours does not. In the movie, slayers are all born with a large mole on the breast. Buffy had hers removed because it was "gross". I would imagine that in a "conscious culture" the birth of a babe with such a mark would alert the parents. I know Joss has said he's not bound by the movie, but that part still makes sense, and he hasn't given us anything else to replace it. One I hadn't thought of before. Now that you mention it, I have only one thing to say: eww. My opinion has been that, although I love them, both Xander and Cordelia have some pretty serious character flaws. They're both overly superficial, albeit in entirely different ways. They're both a little too sharp of wit. But, you know, together they make one pretty nice person. :-) What I mean is, I think they balance each other well. See, if Xander and Willow were to get together, it would all end in tears. Willow's a delicate flower, and Xander's a harsh, brutish, rude boy. (Not on purpose, to be sure. It's just part of who he is.) Imagine the first time Xander says something rude to Willow, jokingly or otherwise. Sure, we know he's just fooling around, that's just his way. But poor Willow, heart-on-her-sleeve Willow, you-deserve-so-much-better Willow can't help but be hurt by it. Cordy, on the other hand... she gives as good as she gets. Sometimes better. I'm sorry, but I just happen to think that Xander and Cordy are made for each other. I doubt if they'll ever realize it, though. I think it'd be pretty darned funny if everybody _else_ did, but they didn't. Laffs-a-plenty, a la Giles's "get Cordelia to drive you" line from WML1. BUFFY: Hey, Xander. I disagree somewhat. If it had *nothing* to do with the movie, why does it have the same name and concept? Joss wants freedom to depart from the movie when it suits his vision. Fine. But if something in the movie supports, rather than contradicts, the show, I think we can let it in. Also, in WTTHM, Giles challenges Buffy to sense any vampires in the Bronze. First, she makes a flip comment about someone's fashion sense, then she says, "He IS a vampire!" Also, there was the scene with Ford when she sent him back for her purse and she hadn't seen or heard anything. She *knew*. What is the effect on Angel? Will he be weaker, or possibly even human now? And is Spike out of the picture now? He lost a lot of credit as a villain, but had some great lines. The "dinner and a movie" line was THE best of the show. - --- My biggest complaint about Kendra was the accent, way overdone! But she was a good contrast to Buffy's style of slaying. The fact she knew she would be a slayer early on could refleft either two things: a glaring typo or the fact that some cultures may be more in tune with the mystical, and Kendra's future as a Slayer could have been predicted. Buffy is the "clueless American" who doesn't really believe in the supernatural, and any early signs of her being a Slayer would have been ignored. - --- Other couples: Oz and Willow, well, Willow does deserve some attention after pining for Xander for so long. Most of my dislike for Oz is for his resemblence to an putz I know in real life. But I guess we'll be seeing more of him ::sigh:: so we'll have to wait and see. - --- Xander and Cordelia: They finally did it. Some say that their kiss seemed forced, and they should have lost the cheesy music. The cheesy music MADE it work. I cannot take their relationship seriously, they hated each other too much to actually like each other, and love/hate relationships don't really work. Trust me. But as a campy secret relationship it would be a blast. I mean, Willow and Buffy would ridicule Xander mercilessly, and the rest of the school would ostracize Cordelia. Theirs is a camp relationship, becuase they are the comedians of the show. The show continues to dazzle, and is the only thing that makes Mondays bearable for us working types.
