By E! Online News Staff Is Sarah Michelle Gellar planning to put a stake through the heart of her TV success? The star of the WB's popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer isn't exactly screaming about her desire to escape television and focus full-time on movies, but she is apparently griping about the long hours and meager pay of the weekly series grind. That's according to a Hollywood Grapevine item in TV Guide provided to the magazine by the blonde star's so-called pals at the trendy Beverly Hills Cigar Bar hang-out. They tattle that the current queen of the teen scream thrillers I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream 2 thinks her duties at her small-screen job are cutting into her chance to make it big-time on the big screen. The WB had no comment, but Gellar's personal publicist, Jonathan Perry, said, "She's very pro-active towards Buffy. She is proud of the show and happy working there. She has no plans to leave and is grateful for the opportunities that her association with the television show has brought her in terms of movie roles." Furthermore, Perry said Gellar wants it known that she is too busy working hard to have time for much nightlife and doesn't go to bars because she's only 20. Gellar has made no secret that she, like many others, finds the schedule of filming an hour-long television series very taxing, especially when compared to the more leisurely pace of movie-making. In an interview conducted with Venice magazine in October--she had just returned to Buffy after a summer playing Helen Shivers and Cici Cooper--Gellar said she found the TV schedule "really hard on me." She added, "There never seemed to be enough time. There were never enough takes. I didn't get the script far enough in advance. Then, I thought, 'I used to be on a soap. I used to learn a script a day!' How quickly we forget." Gellar left the ABC soap All My Children in l995, immediately after winning an Emmy for portraying Kendall Hart, the evil daughter to Erica Kane, played by Susan Lucci. There had been rumors of conflicts with the popular Lucci, who has never won an Emmy despite 17 nominations. But whether the differences were personal or merely stemmed from the adversarial nature of their roles is not clear. Gellar has been a working actress in commercials, on stage and in TV and movies since she was four. She is also an accomplished ice skater and proficient at tae kwon do. Her career seems to have been a steady, well-calculated climb, culminating this year when I Know What You Did Last Summer topped the box-office for three weeks in a row last fall, and the current Scream 2 broke box-office records, though not quite as convincingly as Miramax first claimed. Named as one of People magazine's Breakthrough Stars of '97, and nominated for a Blockbuster award in the horror category, it's not surprising that Gellar is interested in capitalizing on the momentum. But whether that means leaving Buffy or simply squeezing in more movies during next summer's hiatus is still unknown. - - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Dec 1997 19:44:59 EST From: RayneFire Subject: BUFFY: Polls and CNN's In and Out Found a new place to vote for Buffy....the Ultimate TV Best and Worst poll. First of all, who was Buffy's watcher before she came to Sunnydale? I mean, she's obviously been slaying for a long time, and since she's only 16, she must have started really young, in which case, she couldn't have simply known everything about vampires, stakes, trained herself, etc. She must have had someone to teach her. Also, what's up with the handbook? In Never Kill A Boy On The First Date, Giles told Buffy there wasn't a handbook. In part 2 with the second slayer we find out there IS a handbook.
