We could discuss whether it is possible to feel guilty *forever* about anything. People *say* they will feel guilty forever ..but what does that really mean? 10 years? 30 years? Angel had 100 years to begin to put the guilt behind him. >if he ever finds pure and utter happiness, the soul is released. >No problem... like who in their right mind is going to fall in love >with a vampire? But..is "love" the only way to find pure and utter happiness? (And in this case, it appears to be love *and* sex..not just love ) What if Angel had found peace and happiness through mediation or through flower arrangement or as a mime..would his soul have been released (and the demon reborn) then??(Or course, being a mime is worse than being a bloodsucking demon so..maybe this would have been a good thing.) > By the time the unthinkable *did* happen, it was >too late for anything to be done. Then they really shouldn't be casting spells, should they? I mean..they have a responsibility to *know* what they are doing before they do it. If the "fall back" position of the curse is to release a deadly killer into the world..then they should have been damn sure it couldn't happen. Why not a curse that turns Angel to dust the minute he is happy (except for the problem with DB having a long running contract)? All this should make Buffy &Co. think twice about casting some new spell on Angelus to retrieve his soul from that sunlit graveyard it is living in now. What *new* catch will there be? He gets to keep his soul as long as he doesn't drink cappuccino after 6pm? He keeps his soul as long as he and Buffy only have sex on Saturdays after SNL? He keeps his soul until the next time they need a ratings boost? All in all, Angel/Angelus is a poster boy for the "Don't play with magic" council. So I imagine they're trying to spread them out. They might have a couple in Feb. for sweeps, and be saving a couple for May sweeps, with a couple in between. Hm, two months with only 3 eps or so in that time? Argh! Or they could be doing 3 new eps in Feb. and the other 4 in May, with no new eps in between. But I'm pretty sure that's the reason, that they just don't have that many more to go. Plus, the Halloween ep got good ratings, as I recall, and they seem to be repeating them pretty much in order. I guess the only solution would be for them to film more episodes per year. :) Shari rshari@earthlink.net - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Jan 1998 11:01:40 -0500 (EST) From: Michael Hickerson Subject: Re: BUFFY: Halloween repeated on Tues, 3rd Feb? > I guess the only solution would be for them to film more episodes per > year. :) Does anyone know how many episodes they are going to film for this season? Sometimes it's easy to forget that Giles and Buffy share a unique relationship all their own but scenes like that remind us just how important it is for both of them. I was almost ready for him (or her) to lean over and hug the other...I don't know if that would be even more touching or just awkward. Giles is a true Watcher, ready to stand by the Slayer and aide her in any way. Like I've always said, it's nice to see them interact. Since when does that have anything to do with logic? As far as the gypsies were concerned, they decided to make him suffer, and the way to do that was to give him a soul, make him feel guilty. The day when he achieves a moment of true happiness means that he doesn't feel the guilt, or didn't feel the guilt for at least that moment. Which then means that the whole point of the curse was lost, that he didn't suffer any more, didn't feel the guilt any more. Ergo, the curse is lifted. The fallout of the curse being nullified, that is, Angelus returning to terrify human beings again, and all that was not considered when they cursed him. They only considered that they didn't want him to have even a moment of happiness. Come on, the gypsies weren't thinking clearly, not the after the massacre which Angelus put them through. It's not about logic, it's about raw emotion, anger, rage, and vengeance. Jesse Jou wrote: > Also, while I'm glad that DB's been freed from morose nonentity-ness, > part of me just doesn't buy his acting as evil Angel. I must agree with this. The evil is not quite there. While I think that the rebirth of Angelus is a very good plot development, I'm sure that they will bring Angel back. If they stake him, it would not be good for ratings. Angel lovers would have no one to ogle, and Angel haters would have no one to hate! And I for one am looking forward to seeing how they bring him back. As for Giles telling Calendar to get out, I must admit, I was surprised to see Giles make such an open declaration of loyalty to the Slayer. He just went up a couple of points in my estimation. One of the reasons I like this show so much is that for me, it symbolises duty. Duty is inescapable, and, no matter how much it hurts you, how much you sacrifice because of it, there it is. It's yours. Like Buffy's. Like Giles'. Seeing Giles show his support to Buffy was a reaffirmation of that. And that was my favorite scene. dpartha@frontiernet.net - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Jan 98 08:42:46 GMT From: "Dan Fields" Subject: RE: BUFFY: Halloween repeated on Tues, 3rd Feb? (I'm going off the deep end here) Could Dru perhaps be a slayer in training? The only reason why I say this is b/c of the ep w/ Kendra where they took her from her family and it was an honor and everyone in her family knew. 4) Did you notice the deep connection Dru has with Angel and knew that something was happening to him. I believe that Dru has a deep bond w/ "Angelus". Buffy is also developing that deep bond w/ "Angel", she instintively knew that her "Angel" was dead. See the convab w/ Willow on the phone in the Library, also her "Angel" is her sort of "sprit guide" in her dreams. 5) Xander and Willow also have that deep bond b/c he knew that Willow was in trouble and turned back to save her. Okay, here's a thought. What if the curse is somehow cyclical? So that if Angel is ever truly happy he loses his soul, but once he it is once again returned, and so on and so on so that he's never, ever happy and is always being punished? It's really very evil when you think about it, much more in keeping with the whole vengeance thing, and it'd be a great way for him to get his soul back without Buffy and Co. being the ones to actually curse him again. I mean, there's all this talk about Buffy forgiving him after what he's done, and some of him forgiving himself, but if he gets his soul back because she curses him again, how will he forgive her? It's a curse, for crying out loud! It's not a good thing! Honestly speaking, I think what the real Angel (Is anybody singing "Soul Man" right now or am I the only one?) would really want right now is for Buffy to, you know, end his suffering. It would be really selfish of her to go cursing him again and causing him to be in even more pain than before just because she misses his soul. If she does truly love him, then I can't see how she could possibly bring herself to hurt him like that. Is anybody else seeing the euthanasia parallels here? Hmmmmmmm. Anyway, however this ends up, I personally am with the great and powerful Sonja Marie (as opposed to the great and powerful Oz, which is a totally different discussion) on this one. I know I'm going against a lot of people on this (Good thing I buried it way at the end here! :P) but, with the exception of the episode "Angel", I've never really gotten enough of that... I don't know... "tortured" feeling from Angel. He's always kind of bored me, and the whole smoochy-face thing in the last couple of episodes had just left me wondering what had happened to the whole demon-coming-out-when-they-kiss thing. (Which, thankfully, kind of ended up being something of a setup for this ep. Made me feel a whole lot better, that did.) The whole Buffy/Angel dewey-eyed knight-in-shining-armor you-can't-get-between-those-two romance had... well... it had always kind of bored me, and I had always thought that they (meaning the writers) could do better things with it. This is definitely better. Oh, yeah! Man, when Angel was evil, I could not avert my eyes from the screen. That whole "I'll call you" scene was like some slow motion 16-car pile-up from which I could just not turn away, and the sweet little way he said "Willow, come here." just had me jumping up and down screaming "No! No! Don't go, Willow! He's evil! Evil, I tell you!" And the interaction with Spike and Dru - wow! We saw a hint of it in WML, but this is even better than I could possibly have imagined! At this point, I could see Spike being involved in getting Angel his soul back. And then maybe making Angel think Buffy had done it or something! Or it happens without Buffy knowing and she stakes him because she thinks he's still evil! AAAAAAAAAAARGH! Like the man said, things are about to get WAY more interesting. They're found pretty much anywhere that you can buy rings. Hope I helped!!! nichole - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Jan 1998 11:14:52 -0800 (PST) From: Lev Rickards Subject: Re: BUFFY: The Ring My VCR tapes the WB very poorly where I live. In reference to this Ring deal. Does wearing it 'toward you' mean pointing toward your wrist? I couldn't tell how Angel was wearing it in Innocence. ~Lev o0O The House of Rogue............................................. o0O http://thehouse.home.ml.org................................... o0O Proprietor: Lev Rickards........................................ o0O E-mail: levtolstoy@geocities.com............................ First off, her accent. It's clearly British, while the Romani are from, wherever they're from. Central Europe. Now, we've had lots of talk about how an accent can change over the lifespan of a vamp, so this isn't concrete proof. Secondly, Dru's name. Drusilla isn't a typical Romani name, is it? Certainly not anything close to Ms. Calendar's lovely name. (Yana? Jana? Can I get some help with the spelling, please?) So, those are my kernels of dubious truth which *prove* that Dru isn't the Gypsy Girl. ~Lev o0O The House of Rogue............................................. o0O http://thehouse.home.ml.org................................... o0O Proprietor: Lev Rickards........................................ o0O E-mail: levtolstoy@geocities.com............................ Oz is my new hero after his "daydream" speech to Willow. >What a romantic... Didn't you feel so sorry for Buffy? >Brutal, I really hope she gets some serious counseling. Still, there's something just not right about that Oz guy. Afterall, any guy who says that he wants to 'take things slow' MUST be up to no good. As a guy myself, I should know. ;) There's also just something curious in the way he wasn't extremely surprised by finding out that Vampires are real. I'll bet you that there's going to be an episode about his 'dark secret' past of some kind in the future . . . ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - - ------------------------------ End of buffy-digest V2 #54 ************************** To subscribe to buffy or buffy-digest, send the command subscribe buffy-digest or subscribe buffy to majordomo@xmission.com.
