My sister and I watched BBB and "Phases" over the weekend and we, of course, got into the subject of Willow and Oz. She thinks they are the custest couple out there. Anyway, I was telling her that the way the show is supposedly runned is that each new season would be another year in school. So in other words, next year they'll be seniors, right? So if Oz is a senior now, will Joss just make him graduate? Oz doesn't seem like a college going guy so he may stick around or go to the community college in order to be a reg next year. Just a thought. Also, I've been watching old epis of "Life Goes On" (which my Dad is still not convinced Kellie Martin and SMG aren't the same person), and Seth Green was in one of them. He was asking Becca's (Kellie) friend out to some dance. And number two, Buffy could do her >duty until Theresa said Angel's name. Those are good points. Angelus does not do experiments in the modern scientific sense to objectively test a hypothesis. He commits "cruel acts" primarily to be cruel, but then observes what effects that the acts have, so that he can be more effective in his cruelty in the future. I think that if Buffy had swiftly dusted Theresa, then Angel would have concluded that going after mere acquaintances is not very effective (although close friends and family would still be targets, because of his previous experiences). As for point number two, Buffy was reacting to Theresa according to her training and practice for a "standard" vampire conversion until she realized that Angel was the perp. Then she started blaming herself, lost her focus, and might even have lost the fight if X were not there. Now that she has been sensitized to the reality that Angelus is attacking her acquaintences, it will be difficult for her to "do her duty" effectively with anyone vamped since she let Angel go. So, you are right, she was able to do her duty until she heard Angel's name. The problem is, she will be unable to _simply_ do her duty in the future, at least as long as Angelus is around. Amidst all the speculation about what on earth they are going to do for the "Passion" episode, I have been thinking about something. I love this show. I really love this show. And I talk about it a lot to my friends. And, well, they think me kind of weird, I'm sure. I have a friend who, upon hearing so much about Buffy from me, has finally consented to watch an episode with me, (probably to shut me up ). I have them all on tape, but I've kind of been troubled as to which episode to show her. That's where you guys come in. A little about me - I am one of the "older" fans - I'm 37 and a mother of five boys. So, in reality, I really don't have time for this obsession . My friend is similar to me in age and situation. I think she'll watch an episode with me simply to please me, not because she has a dying curiosity about a teenage girl named Buffy who kills vampires. So, here's the question: of all the episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which one do *you* think would be the "hook"? The episode that will forever make a fan of an unsuspecting viewer. It needs to be an episode that doesn't need a whole lot of background to understand it, one that can stand alone, and one that is a true representation of how great this show is. I'm not too sure the "dark" side of Buffy is the best to start with. I need her to know that you don't have to be interested in Vampire folklore to like this show (I'm not - and I am so seriously hooked). I first thought of "When She Was Bad." A great episode, but I don't know if it needs more explanation that what was provided at the beginning defined as "previously on Buffy the Vampire Slayer . . . " Then I thought maybe a step back to "Prophecy Girl." But the new eps are so good. I loved "Bad Eggs" because it was just fun and light. Perhaps the two parter from a few weeks ago? Maybe I could get her to sit still for two episodes. So help me out here. Which episode would *you* show to your friends if you could only show one to "hook" them? The lurker former knows as "Sassenach." hm ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Feb 1998 15:33:42 -0400 From: Katharine_Zandy@fc.choate.edu (Katharine Zandy) Subject: Re: BUFFY: The Hook Well, my favorite episodes were "Surprise" and "Innocence." So, I would go with "When She Was Bad." That's awesome, and you don't have to know too much to understand it. The Halloween episode would also be pretty good. But, make sure you show her Surprise and Innocence when she gets into the series! Those are the best.
