Funny thing is that after so many crew people were hurt or killed by control panels that exploded during battles or "spatial anomalies" on the original Enterprise, they still never identified that as a design defect nor did they apparently ever try to make them non-explosive in all the scores of years that elapsed between Kirk and Picard/Janeway. I think Xander is basically as selfish Perhaps that may be true, but you could say the same for Buffy anytime she acts like a teenager. How many "I'm Buffy and my life sucks" story lines have we been though with her. The fact is that Xander didn't like nor trust Angel, despite his soul. I suppose he learned his lesson from 'Teacher's Pet' that the nicest packages can be dangerous. I'm sure he felt that Angel's turning was a vindication of his worst fears, and that the others (females) overlooked it because of Angel's looks. Also I don't think you can call Xander selfish when you consider the number of times he has risked his life to help Buffy and even save her life like in PG. If you recall in PG Xander had to force Angel to help him go and save Buffy; Buffy was fighting for her life and Angel was in his recliner. Having said that, I do believe that Xander's speech in Giles's apartment was a little out of character, but remember that Buffy agreed with him.
