Spike lost her through inattention and mismanagement; not Ford's fault. I'm in the camp that says that the spoken word has power in this universe; because Spike made a deal, he was obligated to honor it. He turned Ford. He was *not* obligated to go the extra mile for a guy he didn't even *like*. He left the body for Buffy to find. With the exception of Oz's band, all the bands you see performing in the Bronze are indeed the actual bands who originally recorded their songs. Oz's band, Dingoes Ate My Baby, lip-synchs and mimics the music of a real band called Four Star Mary. The truth is, lip-synching is how musical performances are filmed for all movies and shows, unless it's a concert movie or special. Sprung Monkey, who performed in "Welcome to the Hellmouth", is notorious for being awful lip-synchers, and I've heard that their scenes in the series premiere required countless takes and tons of editing. I do agree that Seth Green could at least attempt to slide his hand and adjust his fingers on the strings a little more often. On the flip side, I thought that Superfine did a fairly decent job in "Teacher's Pet", although I'm not too sure about the silver shirt that lead singer was wearing...
