First I had to download that Flash software, which annoyed me because I only have a 1 gig hard drive and don't like to fill it up with software unless it's something I really want and need. I think people should be able to view a website without the bells and whistles, if they want to. Jack's twin, Zack, is forced to wear an iron hockey mask because he's too handsome for the nurses to stand looking at without falling in love with him, and also because it's creepy. Rose enlists the help of a bunch of much better actors to fight their way into the institution and release Zack so he can marry her and provide her with a father for the child she conceived with Jack in the car on the boat. Meanwhile, Jack has been turned into a vampire by Brad Pitt, who was hanging out on the iceberg when the Titanic hit due to some Anne Rice-ish plot twist I haven't figured out yet. I personally think that the amount of slang, and lack of vocabulary on Buffy is probably due to Buffy's intellect. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Buffy's some dumb girl who just makes up words as she goes along, but lets face it, academics aren't here strong suit. On the other hond Dawson Leary is a amateur film maker who writes dialogue for his films and has to be able to express himself through words. Buffy on the other hand, can slay vampires at the drop of a hat. While Dawson can sit home doing his homework and learning new words out of a big 'ol dictionary, Buffy doesn't have that option. I don't think that their language barrier has anything to do with them being teenagers, just with their completely different lifestyles. p.s. in response to that other person who said that teenagers should not be allowed on Buffy mailing lists, I'm 15, and I managed to write a fairly decent reply. It has nothing to do with rewarding fan loyalty and it probably won't get changed anytime soon, although networks do grumble over it from time to time. New episodes are shown, generally, during the Sweeps Periods, at which time advertising rates are set by ratings. These are also the times you get all the big TV specials, weddings, deaths, etc. The Sweeps occur four times in a year: November, February, May, and once in the summer which generally gets ignored, anyway. So shows are rerun in the inbetween time, or start airing new just before the sweeps begin so as to boost ratings a little more by getting viewers back in the habit, as it were. So you probably won't see another new block of episodes until May sweeps, or just before. It's the nature of the beast. FOX tried once upon a time to buck it by starting shows in the summer, but found it didn't work because a lot of people just don't watch as much TV in the summer since everything is reruns. - -Augie - ---------------------------------------------------------------- Augie De Blieck Jr. * augie@nic.com <*> Pipeline Commentary and Review: New Comic Book Commentary Every Sunday: http://www.nic.com/~augie/pipeline/pipeline.htm - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Mar 1998 21:16:56 PST From: "Sara Barton" Subject: BUFFY: Oz Woah!!! Buffster fights different bosses from all the eps at the end of every level. Villains included (but not limited to) are the snake-thing, Ethan, the vamps from the first episode, the Master dude, the robots Malcolm and Teddy, the Spike dude, the Order of Taraka clique, the Freddy Krueger dude from the hospital, the bug lady, etc. that's all I can think of right now. The last villain will be the Angel vampire dude, aka Angelus, who by the way in my opinion, is the coolest and smoothest character because he is pure evil in the truest sense of the word. He defines evil and all that is wrong in Sunnydale. I hope this dude never comes back to the human loving Angel, because being evil Angelus is better. Cool lines, amazing put-downs, sarcasm galore, what a very awesome character! Angelus is the man! He is awesome with a capital A, A for awesome and for Angelus!! That's my opinion, though. I think you have that backwards. In order to produce more than twenty something episodes a year they would have to be put together like they were in the eighties. If you think about the hour long action orientated programs that were on back then, (don't know why but "Dukes of Hazard" comes to mind) they were very much the same from week to week. A lot of the same footage was used from episode to episode and there were about five or six different settings in the entire series. The quality of the acting was not nearly as good as it is today, and the plots followed the same basic formula, i.e. Uncle Jesse and/or Daisy get into trouble as a result of something the "villain" (usually Boss Hog) does, Luke and Bo save the day, car chase. Not much in the way of variety. Sure it used to be great entertainment, but if I have to chose between quantity and quality, I chose quality. And in order to provide the quality that we get every week, more time must be put into each episode. You have all read the articles; SMG works 15 hours a day, six days a week! There are still only 24 hours in a day right? Seven days in a week? Besides, as someone has already pointed out, mid season reruns provide a great opportunity to catch missed episodes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Matthew Peterson mpeterso@gac.edu Money can't buy happiness...But it sure makes misery easier to live with. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 01:59:34 -0600 From: Matthew Peterson Subject: Re: BUFFY:Angel's Bedroom >technically this means they can be exposed to reflected sunlight; we haven't >seen if mirrored sunlight hurts them. . . Because in order for this to be possible, vampires would have to absorb any light that hits them. This would prevent that light from traveling to the mirror and creating a reflection. Now, with the upstart networks (FOX, WB, etc) there is more competition, and less money floating around. I think that when you consider the amount of time the actors (on Buffy) put in per ep, and that the WB is still just a "little fish" in the TV 'ocean', it's all but stunning that they are putting out as many eps as most of the hour longs on the "Big Three". The WB may not be anywhere near the size of the other guys, but, they are growing faster than any other network, from the info that I've seen. Heck last year NBC, ABC, and CBS lost an average of 1 million viewers EACH!!! And who do you think picked up a lot of that slack??? P.S.: I may *only* be 20, but the name "Danny Bonaduce" can still strike fear into the heart of this man! IMHO, the only cool, psychadelic bus from back then had the Scooby gang in it! --Keeper of the wacky, the happy, and the wiggins, Willow's 'deputy' laugh; GASPer; AMSG creator. - - ------------------------------ End of buffy-digest V2 #195 *************************** To subscribe to buffy or buffy-digest, send the command subscribe buffy-digest or subscribe buffy to majordomo@xmission.com.
