(to people who has been here since april/may 97) remember how before we used to know about every little thing that had buffy in it (magazines, newspapers, etc.), & even if somebody mentioned buffy on tv (somebody else *not cast member*), & as soon as somebody knew that somebody from the cast was going to be on an interview (radio or tv or anything) or make live aperances ( so we can meet them)., remember back then? now it seems like we are either the last to know or find out too late, like we are not comunicating the same as before? does anybody here feel the same? please don't tell me i'm the only 1? here's an example: 1. On of the was the explanation of the origin of the phrase "the whole nine yards" which our slayer puzzled over in What's My Line Part 1. So here it is. The phrase goes back to WW2 fighter pilots. The ammunition for their plans came in belts of bullets that were 27 ft. in length. So when a pilot would empty his entire belt of ammo on a single target, he was giving the target "the whole nine yards". If this was covered before, sorry for the repeat, but I though it was an interesting tid bit and made me think of Buffy when I read it. There's a song on Sarah McLachlan's album, Solace that has a few lines that remind me SO much of Buffy and Angel. "Passion lost-- taken, stolen The dreams we had and we shared--shattered, broken..." Obviously that would be about Buffy and Angel *after* him losing his soul :) The way Sarah sings this is amazing. Her voice sounds so sad and broken. The song ends with these lines that I think describe Buffy and Angel making love so perfectly: "There's no hope in regretting now all the pain that we could not see We both knew what we wanted and we took it believing it free, and we took it believing it free" Like, they made love without having any idea what it would cost them. Not that it won't be great but for the fact that the WB has turned off most of the newer Buffy fans. My reasons -Repeats: There's no excuse for any network, not matter how small, to show that many repeats in a row. The WB made the mistake of starting the show Sept 15 (the season offically started Sept 22). They could have even gotton away with showing WSWB on the 29th. They also didn't space the new episodes correctly. Hopefully next season they will take out a chalkboard and tell Joss exactly what time they want the episodes in by. -Repeating recent episodes: New fans of Buffy started watching the show right before it moved to Tuesdays. But when they started repeats they showed four very recent episodes ("Ted" (12/8/98); "Bad Eggs" (1/12/98); "Surprise": (1/19/98) and "Innocence" (1/20/98) ) In my opinion, it would have been smarter not to confuse the viewers with pro-Angel episodes and have shown non-Angel episodes from season #1 ("The Witch"; "The Pack"; "Puppet Show"; "Nightmares"). This also would have drawn in new Buffy fans who, after I start talking about last season, say "isn't this season season 1?" That said, I predict that this episode will do ok (because us Buffy fans who have every episode on tape will watch) but not that good (which could lead to the ultimate demise of Buffy; Who's to blame? no one but the WB) Sorry about the rant.... - -- Jack Welsh Sarah Michelle Gellar Unofficial Web Page http://home.ici.net/customers/joloam/index.html - - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Apr 1998 00:57:42 -0400 From: summerk78@juno.com (summer king) Subject: BUFFY: Song Lyrics Ok, maybe I'm just nit-picking, but something is driving me truly nuts on here! I wouldn't worry too much about that aspect of it. I'm sure they arrived at this conclusion all by their sleazy little lonesomes; it's pretty much standard practice when there's any kind of noticeable change in a star's appearance, particularly if she's female. It's always one of two things, depending on the kind of change: (a) she's spinning out of control, eating everything that doesn't try to eat her first and her career is in DIRE PERIL (e.g. Alicia Silverstone, Kate Winslet), or (b) she's OBVIOUSLY anorexic and everyone she knows is terribly worried about her, even though they all talk in the same standardized information-leaflet quotes and won't give their names (e.g. Teri Hatcher, SMG). I shouldn't pay enough attention to it to fume like I have been, I really shouldn't. And I guess JW is right in the sense that I might have paid *less* attention to it if I hadn't seen fans making similar speculations--particularly one girl on the Bronze posting board who was talking about it a couple months ago as if it were an established fact. The reason it gets to me, I guess, is that anorexia (along with related eating disorders) is a serious illness, and *cannot* be diagnosed just by looking at someone (especially on TV, for cripes' sake!) any more than cancer or diabetes can. And based on what we *can* observe by watching someone on TV, I think it's possible in this case, but not very likely. Yes, her body has changed considerably since "Welcome to the Hellmouth"; a *marked* increase in physical activity (like oh, say, training with Jeff the Stunt God in several different disciplines at once) will do that. She's a very small woman, with small bones and narrow shoulders, and as tiny as it sounds it's *not* unreasonable for her to wear a size 1/2 (especially since vanity sizing in her probable price level would translate that up at *least* one size in the places your *average* 21-year-old shops!). There is no magic number that's "right" or "too thin" for everyone; there are too many factors involved. Americans are just obsessed with *weight* as an indicator of everything. She has changed over the last year and a half to a very athletic lifestyle, which in *anyone* is going to cause a shift in the body's fat/muscle ratio (which would account for some of the apparent weight loss) and an increase in metabolism (which would account for any *actual* weight loss). Her ribs *don't* show (how dumb does the Enquirer think we are?), her knees aren't knobby, her eyes are clear, her skin is gorgeous, and her hair has held up admirably well to some incredible abuse (it's just not *possible* to go from that dark to that blonde without damage, no matter *how* good your conditioner is!). At least *one* of these would almost certainly give her away if she weren't getting sufficient nutrition. As I said, it's possible I'll be proved wrong, and of course I'd *really* hate to be. But I doubt it. Every indication possible from *outside* observation of someone tells me that she is well within the range of what is healthy for *her*.
