Temporary one year expulsions can only be ordered by the chancelor and are almost never done. However you have to add that snyder hates buffy and so won't go out of his way to help her. Also there is a big trend in america towards punnishing youthful offenders much more seriously so it's possible that sunnydale follewed in the path of many municpalities and strengthened the penalties for youthful repeat offenders "First they came for the hackers.. It is, >in my opinon, the reason that he expelled buffy is just for pure >dislike. He never liked her. Anybody opinon on that? Hi... You make a good point and you might be right. But, I think what gets me is that Principal Snyder is such a weasel! Remember that scene when the girl had fallen down the stairs after the invisible girl, Amy, had pushed her? When Snyder touched her to see if she was ok, the girl screamed and Snyder said, "Don't sue." Snyder is really a scared little bully who gets off on bossing the kids around and at the first sign of trouble he backs off. So, in my opinion, you could be right. Snyder might be figuring that Buffy is the cause of all the mysterious occurrences, the deaths, etc., and that getting rid of Buffy will stop all that...but if that's the case, he's in for a surprise because now that Buffy's gone, all Hell is going to break loose in Sunnydale with no Slayer to keep things in balance. Like I said before, if Snyder thought he had problems before, wait till next season, when he'll be forced to find and beg Buffy to return to school. Can anyone else see it happening any other way? Perhaps there is another way of reinstating Buffy as a student, getting her back on good terms with her mom, and clearing her status as a fugitive with the police, but I don't see how unless Principal Snyder plays a principle role next season learning about Buffy as Slayer, getting involved with Buffy's mom, maybe even becoming more of an ally with the Slayerettes. CAN YOU IMAGINE Principal Snyder as a Slayerette...LOL!!! [In the Sunnydale H.S. cafeteria, a familiar bunch sits at their usual table discussing the latest mysterious occurence, courtesy of the Hellmouth] CORDELIA: Here comes the reformed Nazi. WILLOW: (whispering) Cool it, Cordelia. Principal Snyder is the one who got Buffy back into school, cleared things with the police, and put in a word for Buffy with her mom. He's a friend now. XANDER: I don't think I'm ever going to get used to Snyder as 'a friend'. BUFFY: I'll always have fond memories of him on his knees in that restaurant parking lot begging me to come back to restore order. GILES: Ahem! Hi, Principal Snyder, how are things today? SNYDER: Fine! (standing behind Buffy, placing his hands on her shoulders) And, how is my favorite student today? [everyone looks shocked] BUFFY: (looking back over her shoulder up at Snyder) We're just discussing the latest unexplainable bizarreness to hit Sunnydale High, would you like to join us? SNYDER: (suddenly looking pale) Uh...no, I have every faith that you will handle it in your usual efficient manner. Please continue, and if there is anything I can do to make your task easier, let me know. Many on this list will surely think so. Nevertheless, Mr. Gillet's blithe indifference to the human drama of BtVS needed to be pointed out. It is possible to like something for the wrong reasons. To use a rather extreme example: I don't think I would trust someone who was laughing after a performance of _King Lear_ (unless, of course, the performance in question was ridiculously bad). Cyprus _____________________________________________________________________________ I read somewhere of a shepherd who, when asked why he made, from within fairy rings, ritual observances to the moon to protect his flocks, replied: 'I'd be a damn' fool if I didn't!' These poems, with all their crudities, doubts, and confusions, are written for the love of Man and in praise of God, and I'd be a damn' fool if they weren't. --Dylan Thomas - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 May 1998 00:28:40 +0000 From: "JohnH" Subject: BUFFY: seinfeld Well, I should let this stand as the last word, but I simply can't. Let me, then, put forward a different opinion. Surely, uniqueness is a necessary criterion for good art, but it simply cannot be a sufficient one. Otherwise, a two-year-old's indiscriminate pounding on a piano would qualify as good art. For art to be good, I would suggest, it must be at least about something interesting. I don't think Seinfeld, a show that admits to be about nothing, is interesting for I do not think that nothing is very interesting. Many others, of course, disagree. BtVS interests me intensely, not only because it is unique, but because it says something very interesting about the life and death struggle between good and evil. That it is about this very real struggle alone makes the show intensely interesting and dramatic. Something big actually happens, and it actually matters. On Seinfeld nothing matters. And I fail to see why that should be interesting. Cyprus Seinfeld is a show that makes fun of the tactless, awkward, annoying people in the world. Those people quite understandably don't seem to get why the show is interesting. If you are the type of person that shows up at someones home unannounced and they make fun of that type of person on the show then you are not likely to find it amusing. If you are Kenny Banya, then you probably don't "get" the show. It's an inside joke, and we, the Seinfeld fans, are on the inside, looking out and laughing at all of the rest of you, the overbearing, intrusive, embarrasing people that we have to share the planet with. - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 01:51:26 -0400 (EDT) From: Monet Subject: BUFFY: Mags to check out I can't wait to see if I can search high and low for that Spectrum #13. Does anyone know if Barnes and Noble carries it? Anyway, everyone should check out Teen People where SMG is one of the top stars under 21 (even tho she IS 21). It has Brandy on the cover, as someone mentioned before. I really love that picture they used; it's the same one TV Guide used when they included her in "Before they were movie stars" issue. Also, there's a hairstyle magazine that has a big pic and two others inside of SMG. One of them I had never seen before, but I'm sure it's an old one. I think Jenna Elfman is on the cover of the magazine. G :) ============================================================= "'Something weird is going on.' They had it for something like $5 and p/h. They also had a ton of BVS t-shirts and other stuff. I haven't ordered from them yet, but it seems reputable.
