AS if a 18 hour day doesn't fry me enough I figured what the hell and watched the interview. About 10.5 - 11 minutes and really cool. Sarah looked great with her brunette hairdo (exactly the same straight one from Buffy) with I guess red streaks. Conan got in the Burger King bit, Buffy, Vanilla Fog and Cruel Inventions and the whole thing started really funny with Sarah confronting Conan on the SMG/Friends guy dating scandal and the picture of their would be baby that Conan does on one of his bits. Hmm, seems kind of familiar, Xander keeping > information from Buffy as she's in a big fight. I assume he deserves > to be beaten mercilessly for this?? While I dont care that Xander didnt tell Buffy about Angel in Becoming, I thinm I have to point out a crucial difference here. In NKABOTFD, Xander's reticence did not cause harm to anyone (except the bad guy and in our fascist society we have a different set of rules for them...right?). In Becoming, however, Xander knew that the bad guy could at any moment turn into a good guy, so he was not only sacrificing the bad guy but the good guy as well. Now, I dont blame Xander for this decision (I think it was a wrong one, but never the less). I think it was a hard decision to make: a combination of hatred of this new Angelus, left-over jealousy of the old-Angel, and worry for Buffy. Because first and foremost, Xander has *always* been worried about Buffy. > "Fair amount of lingerie, yeah, all of which I tried, none of which fitted" - -Sonja Marie! This is priceless! No, you're right, it's not the exact same situation. And I think that's actually a good point. From what I recall about the reasons for disliking Xander's lie in B2, one put forth --not by you though, if I recall correctly -- was that, plain and simple, Xander lied to Buffy and kept information from her. Who was he to decide what was best for Buffy to know or not know. Well, he kept info from her here in NKABOTFD also (and thus "lied" by ommission). At the time, I argued that I didn't like this reasoning because other characters had lied and kept stuff to themselves and weren't villified for it. Here we see more evidence that these characters acting as though they know what is best for other characters to know or not know is not necessarily a bad thing and that it needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis. So, although I can respect (but perhaps disagree with) arguments such as yours that Xander's lie in B2 is more egregious than his actions here, it's not as simple as "Xander lied to Buffy in B2, therefore he was wrong." La Belle Dame Sans Merci wrote: > I think it was a hard decision to make: a > combination of hatred of this new Angelus, left-over jealousy of the > old-Angel, and worry for Buffy. Because first and foremost, Xander > has *always* been worried about Buffy. I'll agree with that. That's why I mentioned last week about Xander's comment in The Witch. When he found out that chopping off Amy's head would cure Buffy of that vengeance spell, without a second thought he was all for it. Even though as Buffy said, Amy wasn't really at fault, it was her mother. So in these last two first season repeats, we've seen consistency in Xander's character that can explain that the motivation behind his lie to Buffy in B2 wasn't just simple jealousy of Angel. Just to summarize. Obviously, people are free to hate Xander or to dislike his lie in B2, but I think in these last two first season repeats, we've seen things in Xander that shed light on that B2 lie. 1. If you're going to hate him for keeping information from Buffy, I think you need to argue why it was so egregious in that situation to do so (as both of the people I'm responding to essentially do). I don't think it's enough to say it's wrong simply to act as though you know what's best for others and keep information from them. It seems to me that we've seen cases where this really is the right course of action. 2. If you want to hate Xander for the motivations behind his B2 lie, I think you need to accept that a good chunk of it was his desire to see Buffy free of harm. It wasn't just jealousy of Angel as his previous actions in The Witch illustrate. But understand the image that I previously had of Sarah Michelle Gellar: I had always pictured her as a 30 year old in a 21 year olds body. I had read the Rolling Stone interview where she had stated that she "has to date older guys". I naturally assumed that this statement was a cop out, and that she simply PREFERED older men. Girls that date older guys happen to be my pet peeve.... but bare with me here. This interview combined with that new WB commercial convinced me that the aforementioned statement wasn't a cop out, and that she really DOES have to date older men being that, typically, she has more in common with them. I was also convinced that she does indeed get along very well with guys her own age (sitting on Joshua Jackson's lap in the WB commercial). Now... again... don't take this out of context. I think that they on purpose kind of try to stretch the truth to try to make the interview or article or whatever they call it more exciting than if they told the hardcore truth. I think they just take the facts and exadurate them to make you think, "Wow! I never knew that about that person! This interview has really showed me what this person it really like!" Let me explain. SMG is obviously more mature than her 21 counter parts around the country and even around the world for that matter. Hence her tastes in older men. But I think one has to be more mature in the business. SMG has been in show business since she was 4 and has always been surrounded by adults all her life. Even on the show, all of her co-actors/actresses are older than her in age. My point is that SMG acts mature when she needs to be. But when she's placed in a more relaxed situation, such as the one with Conan last night, she's a really down to earth kinda gal. Who adapts quite well to the desired situation on hand. Which goes to show what a talented person SMG is, both on and off the tv/silver screen. A real people person, and a real looker to boot. A rarity in today's world. Dave N. Sarah Slays 'Em on Movie Set Buffy the Vampire Slayer cutie Sarah Michelle Gellar is engaged in a gentle war of raspberries with the crew on the set of her upcoming movie, Vanilla Fog. Judging from a report from a Vanilla Fog insider, Gellar has a biting sense of humor that matches the trademark wisecracking of her TV character — which must come in handy as she battles with a crew that insists on calling her "Buffy." Gellar was prepping for a dramatic scene when a mirthful prop lady asked, "Princess, what's the matter?" according to our insider. "So the prop lady says, 'Oh, OK — let me sit down next to you and tell you a sad story.' And without skipping a beat Sarah says, 'I've already heard about your salary!' " The crew soon retaliated for the quip. "Someone put masking tape over her name on her chair on the set, and wrote in 'Buffy Spice,' " our source says. "At night, when Sarah leaves, everyone says, 'Good night, Buffy.' " Another source, however, describes a warmer, fuzzier environment on the set. According to the insider, the actress made a goodwill gesture to crew members — who regularly barbecue in the studio parking lot — by upgrading their grill. Gellar's rep didn't return calls for comment. But Dish hears the Daytime Emmy winner is adding to her impressive résumé by coproducing the film, which finds her starring as a young woman who runs a restaurant with her aunt, played by Betty Buckley. Complications arise when Gellar's suitor, played by Sean Patrick Flannery, thinks she has magical powers. Buckley, meanwhile, has had a magical effect on the crew, turning heads with her odd costumes. "She started work last Friday (June 19), and wore a very weird evening gown with cutouts so you can see her body. And she wears a black boa, too. One of the crew guys remarked, 'They better send a production assistant to her dressing room — she forgot her broom.' " — Jonathan Reiner haha... i hope you enjoyed it! - -sara - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Jun 1998 13:22:58 -0600 From: kmasters@rof.net (Katie Masters) Subject: Re: BUFFY: I need h*lp (please read) At 3:09pm 6/24/98, wrote: >I really need help.....I need to know where i can get the rolling stones mag >with SMG on the cover....I know it was from a while ago but i really need >it....does anyone have an extra copy i could buy off of them or does anyone >know where i could order it from.....Any info would be appreciated....thanx Ditto that. I can't even name one. I loved watching the season finale, but filming it wasn't great because I wasn't around that many days. The hours are five days a week, usually 14 hours a day, for 9 to 10 months out of the year. But sometimes we get a day off. We shoot in these warehouses in Santa Monica that they set up just for us. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From mintmist: Will Willow be doing any more witchcraft? But you should know better than to cross off (get it?) Angel. There's even talk of a spinoff next season for Angel. By the way, in real life, David just got married--to a social worker named Ingrid. Sorry, girls. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From leigh_ann: How's Bertha Blue? Will she have a part on Angel? She's doing great. She will always have a part on Angel and a place in my heart. We're moving into a new house. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Katy: Just wondering about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer season ender: Is your character dead, or what? NO, he's not dead. He's in exile. He's in pain. He's in hell right now, but he definitely will be back. It will be very interesting to see how he will come back. I'm traveling through the vortex right now. I might come back a little disturbed. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From v49: If you could work with anyone, who would it be? Definitely Marcello Mastroianni. He was an all-around great actor, sensitive, vulnerable. Alive would have to be Al Pacino. It would be an unbelievable experience. And Gary Oldman. And my dad. He's a weatherman in Philadelphia. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From sketch: What is your new show going to be about? It's kind of like a chronicle. I'm leaving Sunnyvale and going to Los Angeles, but I'll be fighting for humanity. I will either take the soul or save the soul. And there will be other characters who will help Angel save humanity. Everyone has these fears inside them, and I will attack them. He's got such a history that we can go anywhere with it. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From melissa_18_98: I noticed that you have a Claddagh wedding band. Does it hold any significance for you? I also have one. By the way, you are the true defintion of a hottie! Oh, thank you. The ring is very special to me. It's a loyalty ring that was given to me by my other half. My better half. The woman who keeps me sane. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From jade: Do you get along with the rest of the cast on Buffy? (Are they looking for extras?) The cast members are great. That's one of the benefits of working on the show. They're always looking for extras on Buffy because we need people to be slayed, so you're more than welcome to sign up. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From david_star: What has been your favorite episode? That's hard. Every episode is so diverse. It's hard to say which one you like best. They're all a lot fun. I can't answer that. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From cloel: Will you still be appearing regularly on Buffy? Definitely. The thing about Angel's show is that he's not going far. He'll come back and visit Buffy, and those characters will come visit me. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Lisa_Ehrlacher: Hey! I was wondering if you had any plans to be in movies soon? Of course, I want to get involved in films, but right now I'm trying to get the balance of the business and my life. I was offered a film but turned it down because I wanted to go to South Africa. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From badaczewski: Do all actors wear sunglasses all the time? No, not all the time. I actually have bad eyes, so I wear them for that. These actually have a polarized tint to them that makes everything sort of yellow and purple. I kind of like that. But it's hard when you walk down the red carpet, and you have all those flashbulbs flashing in your face. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Elizabeth: Were you shocked when Joss told you what was going to happen to your character? No, I wasn't shocked. That's what this character is all about. He's got history, and there's so much to expose. He's got a lot of deep, dark secrets that will definitely be exposed.     From movie_fan1: How was your wedding? It was great. Weddings are a very private and personal moment. It's tough to share. But all I can say is it's the best thing that ever happened to me. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From xander170: Were you popular in high school? No, I was kind of a nerd guy. I played football, had acne and stayed in my room. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From stephanie: What's it like kissing Sarah Michelle Gellar? It's wet and wonderful. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From porsche_k: I heard you were in a soap opera, and I can't find out which one. Could you help me out? No, it's not true. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Karla: Since you majored in film, would you ever consider trying to produce a good script? Yes, I would. I studied film for three years at Ithaca College. I would definitely love to produce something that would be true to my heart and collaborate with good people. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From baywatchbabe19: My bro wants to be an extra...can you pull some strings? I really wish I could do that for you. Unfortunately, that's been asked so many times, you just have to do it yourself. But if you walk in the office and say you want to be an extra, I guarantee you they'll make you an extra. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From rochel: Who is your closest buddy on the set of Buffy? My PlayStation. My favorite game is golf. I'm a sports guy. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From willowrosenberg: Did you ever appear on an episode of Saved by the Bell under a different name? No, no. The only thing I've ever done was Married with Children and some commercials. I was in a lot of the beer commercials. I worked with David Fincher on a Bud commercial once. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From morgan: Why didn't Buffy stick the sword back into the devil thing? Well, because the whole deal with Acaltha was that my blood closed it, and that's how the world would be saved. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From monicagibby: Will you be directing anything soon? Directing is definitely a course I want to go down. Down the line, I'd love to. But it'll be a while. Film stuff hopefully. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From nicole: How old are you, and where were you born? I'm 16, and I was born in a circus town in Russia, a small little town. Actually, I'm 28, and I was born in Buffalo, New York. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From buffy_summers: Why couldn't Buffy just cut Angel's hand for the blood, instead of sending him to hell? What's great about the show is that the writing makes people feel this way. She could have wimped out and cut his hand or something. But she had to go for the true pain, and I kind of deserved it. I was a real jerk to her for six months. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Natalie: What do you find to be the best thing about fame? The worst? The best part is that I can openly express my thoughts about my parents and let everyone else know about it. It's a blessing. And the worst part would have to be that the amount of work can get strenuous, and it pulls away at your personal life. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From melissa: If you could possess a special power (i.e., to fly, travel in time), what would it be and why? I think invisibility would be pretty interesting and flying would be intense, but you do that in your dreams. It's a Wings of Desire question. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From happy_face: Boxers or briefs? Boxers. Or nothing, usually. == *Experience is a hard teacher-- she gives the test first, the lesson afterward. *If I cry me a river of all my confessions will I drown in my shallow regret? _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
