However, a situation has arisen which worries me. "Buffy.org" has set up their site based on the words "for the fans, by the fans". It was noticed that content was adopted from other sites, and later it was learned that said content was taken without permission. Among the webmasters that this has happened to are Pat Moss, webmaster of Codex and Planetx Buffy Webring and who runs the buffy-l list, Anime Nut, webmaster of Domain of the Slain, and yours truly. All very long time denizens of the Buffy Community. Pat Moss has come to find that Buffy.org has taken many of his ideas and used them "rather poorly" on their site and then: "The final straw in my hat was functionality/look of the buffy.org webring. Come on. Compare "http://www.buffy.org/webring.shtml" to "http://www.planetx.com/buffy/webring.shtml"." - Pat Moss Apparantly Animie Nut's episode reviews were used on Buffy.org without his permission. And then there is me. I've been doing my BTVS links site since Apr. 97. Any Buffy fan worth their salt, know that my links are the best on the net, or at least come to learn that. When Kasey came up with this idea, I was all for it, I even offered my site as their links page, until he said I would have to move to his server, I said no. This should've been the end of it, but sadly it wasn't. When Buffycrawler started at Buffy.org, I had no idea that the ground works for the links they had the search site for came from my website. Over 1100+ of them. He gave me a one line credit and when I balked he said he'd even remove that one day, ignoring all the work I did that went into the pages. I'm asking members of the list to go to their site http://www.buffy.org, see what they've done to other webmasters, and if you choose to, email them and ask for your site to be removed from their "links" site, cause if you were linked on my site, you are probably there as well. If you have any comments you'd like me to see, email them to me PRIVATELY. Two things about this smell fishy to me - 1) the fact that *I* haven't received an e-mail from Pat regarding this, and 2) "rather poorly", while his opinion, is not entirely the words I'd use to describe it. The similar features, both currently in place and coming online within the month, may need initial touching-up but are completely different than anything at PlanetX.Com. > Apparantly Animie Nut's episode reviews were used on Buffy.org without his > permission. *WERE*. Operative word, based on a miscommunication over e-mail. Ask him, because everything's straightened out now. A final word on this... the 'hype' Sonja Marie has generated is all 'hype', with VERY little content behind it. As a first and only, BuffyCrawler needs a database of sites behind it, as the work hasn't been done before. While Sonja Marie may cry "copy", it's really not... the main focus of BuffyCrawler is searching, not linking. (The hit tracking can prove that... there's more hits to the search engine script than the link listings combined.) Credited use of many link lists was looked into; however, the only one producing ANY KIND of response was Sonja Marie. Her claims of "free Internet" are BS - denying progress because of seflish ego is something else. In other words - I'm not guilty of anything but hurting someone's ego. Depending on which portion of the vamp mythos you follow, it is either the icon itself, or the faith of the person holding it. A person who has no faith can hold a cross for all they want, it's just a cross, nothing 'holy' about it. On the other hand, sometimes a vamp would have picked up a cross and been burned by it...... In Buffy, I believe it is the former, thus the faith of the person holding it, whether that faith be in the cross, themselves, or God. Doesn't the cross turn them away from biting someone wearing one? And Angel was burned by it in that kiss&dance with Buffy. So, is it simply 'holy', or is it a question of faith? Kendra > did say she had killed many vampires with Mr. Pointy. If this is so, maybe > there are lots of other almost slayers out there? Lots of interesting questions to which we really don't have answers. Joss still has lots of room to explain the slayer idea. At the risk of overanalyzing (or is there any such thing as overanalyzing this show), I've got a couple of thoughts. 1. It does seem sort of unfair that vamps in the rest of the world get a free pass if only they can resist the call of the hellmouth. Buffy's been pretty much tied down to home, being in high school and living with her mother who didn't know her true vocation. Maybe she'll get to make some on-the-road kills this summer. 2. What is the deal with slayers-in-waiting? (Try to avoid saying that last sentence with Jerry Seinfeld intonations.) How exactly is the next slayer activated -- is there anything mystical involved? We've seen Buffy display super-human strength. Did she just not notice that she could break off doorknobs, bend steel, leap 15 feet in the air and so on until she "became" a slayer or is there some sort of supernatural transference that takes place at the moment you become a slayer. I lean towards the latter. Consider also Kendra. She seemed to be training to be a slayer most of her life. Did they just not tell her why she was being taught how to use weapons and how to fight? If she knew all along that one day she would be fighting vampires, and she had the "strength and power", why not let her fight them sooner? I'm sure the people of [insert country consistent with her accent here] would be grateful to have her on the job. If there is no mystical transference of power, does it really seem fair that there are other girls out there who could kill vampires, but aren't allowed to because they're not technically *the* slayer yet? All in all, there's lots of room for exploration as we get deeper into the series. Just one other thing I just thought about. We never really dissected Buffy's deal with Spike in B2. In return for his help in stopping Angel from awakening Acathla, Buffy was willing to let Spike and Dru leave the country (or did he just say "leave town"). Of course, that means she was willing to let some people in another area die (Spike certainly never said he was going to stop killing) in order to save the world. So Buffy does seem to be on board with the concept that unfortunately, at times, some people need to be sacrificed in order for more people (here, the rest of the world essentially) to live. The scooper's heard the script finds Buffy fighting a powerful, never-before-seen villain (wow, there's a shocker!) The scooper's contact also heard that so far the only characters mentioned in the film are Buffy and the watcher Giles, but that the contact expects more of the cast to join. The production also is looking at casting a "familiar teen" to play the role of the villain, but so far they've only been speculating on actors for the part.
