Absolutely careless writing and editing; the story itself wasn't so bad, and the characters were pretty true, but there was just stupid stuff that any copy editor should've caught; mega-storm with thunder and lightening on Make-out Point, cut to the graveyard and it's a moonlit night. Considering how long it takes to write a novel, and what the authors had access to, I personally don't believe that the events in "Becoming (Part 2)" were revealed to the authors in any way. It seems to me that they wrote this under the impression that many of us already had: that Angel would get his soul back and all would be well again. It could still happen that way to an extent, but I treat _Blooded_ as part of a parallel universe instead of fitting in with the continuity. In short, much of this story must have already been written before B2 ever aired, and when it finally did, it was too late to make the appropriate changes to Angel's character and the others' reactions to him. So, if you haven't read _Blooded_ yet, think of it as set post-"Passion", but with alternate events afterward. I really hope that he isn't accepted, because there is just to much emotional scarring. Buffy and Angel's relationship wouldn't be healthy, because Angel could never become truly happy again or he would change back into demon form. Looks like we'll all have to wait until next season to get the official answer: Was the loophole still included in the curse that Willow cast on Angel? I'd like to believe that, as some measly sort of penance to betraying the Giles and the Slayer, Jenny would have tried to come up with a curse that did *not* contain the happiness loophole. However, Jenny did make a strong point about how the spells and curses of her clan were lost long ago. It remains possible that she was only able to come up with the same or similar curse. Regardless if the last curse contained the loophole or not, I agree that Angel and Buffy would not be having the relationship that they have in _Blooded_. That's why I don't believe that the events in "Becoming (Part 2)" have any bearing on what occurs in _Blooded_. From what I've read in the book, the only thing that seems to indicate to some people that it takes place post-"Becoming" are all the lines about Angel getting his soul back. Like I said earlier, this could have merely been an assumption on the writers' part. They had no idea he would be sent to Hell. The lines in this book merely state that he got his soul back -- there is absolutely no mention of his trip to Hell and back. One more time: most if not all of this book must have been written before "Becoming (Part 2)" aired. Since Angel and his relationship with Buffy occupies numerous scenes in the book, there was no time for all of them to be rewritten to accomodate a scenario of Angel's return from Hell. Finally, like someone else said, NONE of these novels should be considered as part of the same Buffyverse that we watch in the series. They may be set around events that we are all familiar, but they are by no means canon. I too have read many of the Star Wars novels. As much as I love the character of Mara Jade, I don't expect to ever see her in Episodes 7-9, should they ever be filmed in the near future. So, in a nutshell, DO NOT consider _Blooded_ as set post-"Becoming". The most recent "mythology" ep that is alluded to in this book would have to be "Passion". Imagine what would have happened if Acathla had never been unearthed, the yellow disk was found earlier, and Angel got his soul back *without* any vacation to the fiery pits of Hell, and you have an idea of when/where _Blooded_ is set.
