Actually there's quite a lot of things wrong with Faith. And I mean that in the nicest of ways. Really, I do. The girl's got some massive head trauma. BTW, I don't mean that the same way I do for Giles, Faith's is emotional/psychological truama. Which is precisely the reason I love her. She flawed. Horribly flawed, and it's just great. (Okay, re-reading that, I sound damaged too...) Let me try to explain. I was having the discussion of "Why don't you like Faith?" with a good friend of mine. She couldn't give me a very solid answer. I proposed that she may not be seeing the character clearly. That her dislike of Faith may have been based on Buffy's origonal dislike of her and that she was letting her empathy cloud her persceptions. The next time we got together, having had time to consider my point of view, she said that I was right and that this was the reason she was having trouble with Faith. I think that may apply to a large amount of fans. We apply the view of the characters we most like/dislike when judgeing the other characters. (Note fans who like one disliking or hating a character becasue of slights to a character they do like.) The other reason is that what we see as our own faults we often dislike in other people. Figure out some specific reasons why you dislike Faith. Is the reason something that you have done, would like to do but won't cause it's "wrong" (sublimination = always a hoot), or is in some way applicable to you? Keep in mind that you have to be painfully honest about your own faults and desires to be able to do this. I love Faith. Because she's just as flawed as the rest of us. Faith told Scott off while Willow and Xander were too involved in their own issues. Nobody even realized that Buffy hadn't heard about yearbook pictures because none of the scooby gang spoke to her. Of course then throw in the quality time she's been engaging in with Joyce and the patroling/training/studying time she's been putting in with Giles...Buffy's pretty much been rotated out of the pivotal group dynamics. She used to be the glue that held the group together..the corral leader, so to speak and now she's the lone ranger on the outskirts of the group. LOVED it. Here it goes... S P O I L E R S Episode 8: "Lover's Walk" (Nov. 23): Synopsis: 1) Spike returns without Dru (who dumped him), and he's all depressed so he kidnaps Willow and Xander and gets her to make a love spell; 2) Oz and Cordelia catch Xander and Willow smooching and Cordelia is sent to the hospital; 3) As realized by Spike of all people, Buffy says she can't be friends with Angel because she still loves him; and 4) Buffy gets high SATs and consider going to college. Review: I admit to not really caring for this season so far. While there have been a number of very entertaining episodes (my fave goes to Dead Man's Party), none of have particularly memorable. This episode all changes that. From beginning to end, the show got me going through a myriad of emotions. Except for some lame appearance by the Mayor, we get to see Spike. He doesn't disappoint--selfish, crude, and evil to the bone, he provides a spark that no other villain this season has provided (incluing Mr. Trick). His giving love advice to Buffy and Angel was hilarious! But the real heart of this episode belongs to the quartet of Xander, Willow, Oz and Cordelia. The scenes at the locker where Xander sees pictures of them in her locker and where Oz give Willow a pez dispenser were wrenching. For the first time, sympathy was provided to Oz and Cordelia, and not to Xander and Willow for feeling bad about messing up. And when they found out...OH MY GAWD! And when Cordelia fell down the stairs and gets stabbed and said "Xander, I can't see you" and they show the funeral right after and when she tells Xander in the hopsital to leave her alone and when they had that slow song with all of them looking all sad....AAAHH! But all that smushy stuff ends with a very amusing farewell by Spike. A great, great, great episode. This one's a winner. Alyson was excellent, especially in her scene with James. - -Spike was great!! He spent the majority of the episode totally trashed, crying about Dru. It was fun to see him so, well, wimpy! He told his sob-story to everyone who would listen, including Joyce. - -speaking of Joyce, contrary to rumors, she's alive and well, as is Cordelia. (Joss tried to trick us with Cordelia though; right after she gets seriously injured, he cuts to a funeral scene, but it turned out to be totally unrelated.) - -Buffy seemed a little discontent with everyone's attitudes about her high SAT scores. Everyone kept telling her that she should go away to college, and Giles reassured her that Faith could take over the slaying duties. She didn't say anything, but she seemed miffed that she has suddenly become so easily replaceable. - -it was pretty hard not to feel bad for Oz and Cordy in this ep. The discovery of Willow and Xander's relationship was devastating. - -there was a classic Joss ending, complete with an extreme change in tone. It reminded me of "When She Was Bad" (when the gang is happy, and there's cheesy music playing, and all of a sudden, it cuts to the Annointed One.) In this ep, there is a shot of everyone looking very sad, and then it cuts to Spike driving out of town, happily singing along to a punk version of "I Did It My Way".
