I thought The First manifested itself in all of Angel's kills. Granted we didn't see them all, because Joss has a budget to work with. After all, we did see a sliver of one other than the Irish fiance, the maid and Jenny. There was the businessman whose children were killed by Angel. I think Jenny was the one we saw the most, because we actually knew who she was. But I don't think they selected just those three. Maybe it's just me, but Jenny's didn't seem too brutal. It's very possible that the invisible girl was eaten by vamps before she went invisible, or was sniffed out and eaten later, or is now a vamp herself, or whatever. Amy, for that matter, might never have been released from her mother's body if the mother got killed during cheerleading tryouts. Or maybe Amy is now her mother, and the Amy-in-moms-body threw herself in the way of a vamp. Or a truck. Little changes can result in big effects, and big changes (like Buffy never showing up) would really screw things up. The list of the 10 shows can be found on the Internet at http://www.ultimatetv.com/specialareas/tvwrapup98/a/98tvwrapup_topten.html I have included the review of Buffy here for those who may not have Internet access: - ---------- Buffy The Vampire Slayer Entertaining, enticing, enthralling. This slick, sharp and witty WB drama about a teen (diminutive Sarah Michelle Gellar) who slays demons and vampires rocks. Hard. And even if we're out of the demographic, we're addicted. Living over a Hellmouth shouldn't be this fun. "Buffy" does her dirty work each Tuesday at 8 p.m. on The WB. - ---------- Also, they are doing their own poll for the top TV show of 1998. Voting in their poll will go through Christmas night at midnight PST. Results of the poll will be posted on Dec. 26. If you want to vote for Buffy, you can do so at http://www.ultimatetv.com/specialareas/tvwrapup98/a/98tvwrapup_pick.html Follow the rules and hopefully Buffy will reign as #1. Buffy also gets a couple of mentions in the section called Notable in '98, which features highlights and lowlights of the year. This section is found at http://www.ultimatetv.com/specialareas/tvwrapup98/a/98tvwrapup_notable.html The sections about Buffy reads as follows: - ---------- Most Unexpected Return: Polyester. It's woven its unnatural threads into the consumers' wardrobe, and into the wardrobe of the current TV goddesses --e.g., it's the flexible fabric that helps "Buffy" wiggle and slay. Bite Me: "Buffy The Vampire Slayer." The year's biggest surprise: fun, engaging, entertaining, this series draws its viewers into its complicated dark world, where its characters' buoyancy and humor bring them back weekly. - ---------- David Simpson mailto:simpsond@utah-inter.net Xander: You don't know how to kill this thing. Here's a little perspective: *Buffy doesn't come to Sunnydale to stop the Harvest and the Master rises (about the time of WttH and the Harvest) *The town is overrun with vampires and demons. The Hellmouth unleashes unspeakable evil on not only Sunnydale, but the rest of the world as well. *Curfews and restrictions are placed on the surviving people. The equivalent of living in an military-occupied zone only the demons are the ones with the guns to your head. *Approximately three years later (when the Wish takes place) The world is restored. *Now, back to IG, Marcy may not have ever even turned invisible. And even if she did, in a world crawling with big bad things who's going to sweat a girl nobody can see? Or a teenage witch possesed by her mother who wants to make the cheerleading squad? And this is assuming, of course, that these events transpired in the alternate Buffy world. I'm still trying to figure out why Cordy didn't die in the Harvest (or it's equivalent in the alternate universe). Because, p to that point, Buffy hadn't really affected much. The only thing I can think of is that instead of remaining at the Bronze and dancing with Jesse--who would never have been vamped if the Master and Luke hadn't needed him for bait--she left early. That's my best guess. A crucifix is not just a symbol of Christianity; it's a model of a device used for killing people in a nasty way, by nailing them to it and leaving them to slowly die.
