The voice that says "And what does the winner get" on the Moloch game is Sheila...I think in "School Hard" when she and Buffy are being roasted in Principal Snyder's office. The Buffy Season II cards are supposed to be released in Feb 99' and I hear that Nicholas Brendon and Anthony Stewart Head autos should be in the seconf batch! I have of course already pre-ordered a case. If anyone wants to know where to pre-order the cards just e-mail me! I'm paying $499 for one case which considering the Season I case prices I considered a good deal! Please let me know if anyone has found a better deal? Thanks! Merry Christmas everyone! If it goes on for more then today, I may move my links pages back to geocities temporarily. The Planetx mailing list doesn't seem to be affected by this down time. Sorry if all of you have been trying to visit my links site only to find you can't connect, I only found out about the problems around 3am last night. For those of you who don't get the magazine, I'll type it up for you: "Like people who say they hate hip-hop without listening to it, those who disdain Buffy without watching it are to be pitied for their lack of open-mindedness. What fun they're missing with the only teen show that manages to work on multilevels, nourishing adult viewers as well. Most episodes this year seized on a typical adolescent crisis -- learning to drive, cramming for the SATs, having such an awful fight with your mom that you run away from home -- and turned it with artful ease into the premise for supernatural deviousness and martial-arts horror splatterings. For me, the season was all the better for the low profile kept by the series' most humorless characeter, Angel, during his near-death (near-life?) experience. The dizzying romantic quadrangle involving Xander, Willow, Oz, and Cordelia, is intricate and witty to the point of Shakespearean comedy. Indeed the show has proved remarkably deft at deepening nearly ever characeter's personality, while maintaining a slapsticky, cartoonish exaggeration that yields much bloody laughter. Not only the year's best, but the most underrated." In a second opinion in the same magazine, BtVS is rated #3. Still not bad at all. It reads: "Who would've thought that an adaptation of a flop teensploitation flick would turn out to be one of the most artistically ambitious series on TV? Buffy bounces between genres -- comedy, horror, romance -- with an otherworldly grace." (Is it just me, or has the word 'genre' been used way too much this year?) There are also some other articles on the show throughout the 'Best of 1998' Entertainement Weekly, including the WB's Women. I notice Ken Tucker always gives BtVS great reviews, but I can't say I've seen a bad review in any magazine or article yet... ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Dec 1998 17:10:04 EST From: Alverdine@aol.com Subject: Re: BUFFY: Re: buffy-digest V2 #624 In a message dated 12/25/98 10:30:27 AM, you wrote: >Hi I've never responded to the list before, but here goes.... >The voice that says "And what does the winner get" on the Moloch game is >Sheila...I think in "School Hard" when she and Buffy are being roasted in >Principal Snyder's office. But then later I get the most incredible gift of all..the 30 minute, original, unaired, unreleased pilot of BTVS that Joss Whedon wrote, directed, and financed. I assume he used it to shop around to the networks until he landed on the WB. Sarah, Tony, Nick, and Charisma were all there but *egads* a completely different looking and acting Willow. Anyway, it was a pretty big freakout for me to watch it but it was completely awesome. My biggest surprise had to be though was when Cordelia is in the courtyard with Harmony (same actress) and another of her lackys and a guy walks by her and says, "Cordelia, are you going to the Bronze tonight?" and she replies, "Not with you." Well that 15 second-little more than an extra guy was my cousin. :) He's an aspiring actor (aren't they all?) and he's always popping up out of nowhere. Anyway, the tape also had a dubbed version of "The Wish" on it. I know I've heard this version of the pilot mentioned before and I was wondering if anyone else had it. I couldn't remember what was said when it was brought up. If people are curious where it was bought I'm including the information below. Oh, btw, the guy at the store said he had "Dailys" which as I understand them (but I may be wrong) are day by day shots of film before anything ends up on the cutting room floor. So it seems possible this could include gag reels of some sort. I'm really ignorant when it comes to matters of stuff like this so I'd appreciate any information people could offer me about it.
