Or even for those who could afford it, you'd really rather have a 25-minute videotape than say, a dozen new CDs, or 6 new hardcover books or a variety of other things? The economist in me (although one that doesn't know a lot about auction theory) wants to say this is just the wonders of an unfettered market at work and this system will lead to an efficient allocation of a scarce resource -- the Buffy unaired pilot in this case -- but the reasonable person in me just wants to be disgusted with that price. I'm not naive; I realize that not everyone is mired in the middle class as I am, especially those of you in a relatively low-tax country such as the US. But it still amazes me that people would not blink at spending US$177.50 (which is Can$275 or Aus$290 or 105 pounds for us foreigners) on a 25-minute videotape, even if it is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I was just saying what people can expect if they try to find the pilot online. Not everyone is an generous as Katy77 (who I'll assume is having a bad day). People online want money and as long as there are people out there willing to spend it (someone just spent 250.00 for the pilot on ebay!) they'll keep trying to sell it. In the grand scheme of things I would agree since Gellar does well in that genre. However, for her career (think Jamie Lee Curtis for those around in the 70's) she would be better off thinking of comedy roles, modern drama and such. There have been many cases where actors have left "solid" TV roles (both during and after their TV roles) and either flopped badly or were typecast into a particular slot of films. For many years, Curtis reigned as the scream queen and ended up "paying badly"; using her own words. It was years before Curtis, a very talented actress, got another break which allowed her to get back into the business as a force (A Fish Called Wanda (comedy), True Lies (action) and it took time). Gellar has a natural comedy ability that shows in Buffy, I would love to see a feature film where that is the emphasis as opposed to fighting the undead. See this is wrong because in "School Hard" we see the first confrontation with Angel and Spike and Angel tries to convince Spike that he is still evil and remember Spike's quote, "You were my sire man, you were my yoda!" Yes, Spike said that, but still Drusilla is regarded by TPTB as being the one who "made" Spike. Joss backpeddled on this sometime back. He said the Angel is regarded as Spike's "sire" because Spike is descended of Angel's line. It's an honorary term. Though specifically, Dru is Spike's direct sire and Angel is Spike's GRANDsire. Joss also needs to do some more rationalizing if he wants Drusilla to be the one who made Spike. In School Hard, Spike is described as barely 200 years old, not even as old as Angel. But then in Becoming, Part 1 we see a flashback of a still-human Drusilla in "London, 1860". That, of course, would make it impossible for her to have made a 200-year-old vampire. So we need to assume that Giles' information on Spike was faulty. Of course, Joss also messed up the date of the flashback of Darla siring Angel; it was inconsistent with some prior mentions of Angel's age. I believe Joss' response when questioned on that one was that he "sucks at math". What was vague or loosely written intially can later be made more specific and often changed in some way. This is because what was "then" can't be "now"; when the show began, Joss and co. didn't know this-and-that would come into play later. A good example of this is the pilot with Becoming Part 1. In the pilot, Angel tells Buffy he thought she'd be taller. Then, in B1, we see that Angel had been watching Buffy in 1996, before her move to Sunnydale, and therefore he *did* know how tall she was. In cases like this, we have to go with the flow. When the pilot was written, B1 wasn't even a seedling of an idea. This is a complicated sort of logic, a writer's ability to change the past for the sake of the present (and future), so I hope I'm making some sort of sense here.
