I only look at one year charts (unless they are five year log charts). I just know I made money four times running on it, and don't even mind selling half on the weakness Friday only to have it move up today. It bought me peace of mind, and returned all my capital with about a 13% profit as well in under a year, and I still own half with a 3/2 split coming. I tried the "Big Easy Investor" scans, in fact I tried both the IBD new highs with strong earnings growth scan and a few CANSLIM and HGS variants of my own. I couldn't reproduce any single stock on my ot Tom's watch lists. Dunno where they get their data, but the HGS scans I get from the HGS mining co. website use QP2 and Tom uses DGO, so they must not be using either Telescan or IBD data. Here's a simple test of a subset the HGS criteria (I am ignoring EPS, GRS, and A/D): last closing price >= $10 last closing price w/in 15% of 52-wk high (>= 85% of 52 wk high in BigEasy) 50d vol >=10k (30d vol in BigEasy) closing price >=200% of 52-wk low RS >= 80 A/D = "BULL" (I assume this is roughly equivalent to A/B/C) Here's what I get: AFIC ATU ATVI BKF CATT CENL CWTR DAKT DRYR ELN GMP ILFO LAB LCRY MBE RLC SCOT SDH SGH SKX TOM UNM Now, if the data is valid, then the HGS list should be a subset of this list, since the HGS screen has the above criteria PULS the following criteria: EPS >=80 GRS>=80 The HGS scan returns the following: ABK AFWY APOL AVZ BNKU BZH CAKE CHBS COHB HOTT PHCC SDH SHFL SWBT USPH See the similarities in the two lists? What, there's no similarity? OK, the BigEasy scan found ONE stock in the HGS list (SDH). Therefore, from my POV, those scans are less than worthless. Also, now that I had to open an account there, even though I specifically instructed them not to, I get 2 junk mails from them a day, and probably will get them until I change my email address. I can only blame myself for this; nothing is free, no matter what the website claims. I may continue to use their charts, they are almost as good as BigCharts, which for some reason has never worked right with Netscape. Need some work though. Whay can't I get a simple log chart ala YHOO? Is this (usually) brain-dead site the only one that understands equal percentage increase for the Y-axis? P.S. Pulling out "judgemental" or "proprietary" data like A/D or RS from the BigEasy scan doesn't help to move the two lists closer together. Their data is just plain bad. P.P.S. Free is NOT a very good price. YGYYPF(0). Enough ranting. Hugh, I have to agree with both you and Tim on BigEasy. They send more mail than another site I've subscribed to. And, I asked them about log charts months ago. I recently uninstalled it and have asked to be removed from the mail. We'll see if they follow through on that. - -Bill - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hugh Fader" To: Sent: Monday, February 05, 2001 4:33 PM Subject: RE: [CANSLIM] Re: Bigeasyinvestor or should I say "baddatainvestor"? > I also see a problem with BigEasy data. B/O confirmed with volume. Congrats if you jumped the gun. +5% is 38.85; I may put in a limit order for it today. I have a limit order in for BZH at +5%; missed it yesterday. And does anybody watch big oil? Look at the SUN B/O yesterday. No right side of the cup here! P.S. I would buy any homebuilder right now. All of them popped yesterday for major gains on major volume.
