This one is pretty cut and dry. The correct buy point is off the handle high(35 1/8) on 1/23/01. The most recent little flag is just that. The stock is extended so buying it here (even if you had a good market) is risky. SDLI, last summer is a good example of a high handle. High handles should not form more than 12% above the high of the cup or else they tend to be faulty. If someone wants me to post a chart of SDLI let me know. Pivot is 35.125 (1/8 above high of handle). Buy range is up to 36.88. Anything beyond that is extended by CANSLIM standards. If you missed the breakout, RCII could still have been bought on 2/7 when it retested the pivot. But that would have been risky given the sudden drop on high volume. You may feel that 39 is a reasonable entry point, and that there is good upside potential from here. You may well be right, but CANSLIM says otherwise. There is a good chance this stock will drift back to test the pivot again. If not, consider it a gonner and focus on other stocks. - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 2001 14:42:33 -0600 From: "David Squires" Subject: Re: [CANSLIM] RCII Hi Bill, I'm not sure if your talking charting software or screen capture software. The high handle concept was created to find a SAFE pivot point for a stock that DID NOT form a proper handle. This stock DID thus your high handle can only be a flag pattern. There is nothing wrong with trading flag patterns, I trade them all the time, but that is swing trading not intermediate term trading. I posted the chart simply to help less knowledgeable traders understand the SAFE place to buy this stock. Nothing personal, your buy point is just more risky than the classical CS pivot and different risk precautions (i.e. tighter stop/reduced size) should be taken.
