I totally agree with the President that this dogs and Any nation that willingly harbors such people should be dealt with in an extreme fashion. To compare the US with that of Afghanistan for their tolerance for terrorism is insane. The US imposed the ultimate penalty on McVey by executing him. If other nations imposed the same penalties for such acts, it would change the face of the world. No, I don't believe that it would do away with it entirely but it would make a difference. The mere fact that a nation would allow a celebration in the streets and then publish headlines in there papers about how we deserved it tells me that it is probably acceptable. Did Japan or Europe or Asia celebrate. No the agonized with us. The act of Terrorism is an act of war and should be dealt with in like manner. War is Hell. Turn on the TV and I believe that my viewpoint is no different that everyone else. I too was at a prayer vigil last night for several hours remembering those that lost their lives, the families that will never be the same, the children who don't know where their parents are this morning, and justice not revenge for those individuals and/or nations responsible. I do not believe that it should take three years or even six months for justice to be met out. Especially if all the efforts promised will be delivered! - -----Original Message----- From: Fanus [mailto:fanus13@yahoo.com] Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2001 5:26 PM To: canslim@lists.xmission.com Subject: RE: [CANSLIM] what an horrific assault on America I am just as horrified by the events as everyone else and want nothing less than justice to the people who caused this. But look a little at what you are saying... You want to kill off the government of Afghanistan just because the terrorist who might have planned this might be living there. I mean the guy have to live somewhere and you want to bomb a place just because of this? Should the US government also be bomed because they were "harboring" Timothy McVeigh? How do you think the best way of bombing the people who celebrate in the streets would be? Or doesn't it matter? Should the US just bomb the whole area there regardless of who celebrated and who not? Regardless of the fact there might be innocent people and children who do not even know what is happening? If it take three years for the terrorists to come to justice then so be it. This is how the US justice system work and we should be happy that it guarantee everyone a fair trial. There cannot be expections, it cannot be subjective and cannot be tweaked to fit our emotions, otherwise we will be just as bad as the people doing the bombing. The justice you propose for the US to go on a bombing spree and kill everyone who might, or might not have been involved will make the US no better than the terrorists they try to wipe out. This will mean the terrorists won, as they would have pulled the US down to their level. I am not trying to defend the people who did this. I believe they should brought to justice and suffer the ultimate penalty, but this should be done in a civilized way which will make all people in America proud. Instead of just wanting revenge, I propose we should go on our knees and be thankful for what the US stand for, that we can live in a country like this and pray for the people whose lives changed this morning forever and the rescue workers, doctors and nurses there, trying their best to help and undoubtly are going to work through the next few days and nights without consideration for themselves. - - Fanus - --- Dave wrote: > > Totally and utterly destroy the bastards!!!!! > > Anything less would be an insult to this great > country. Afghanistan is knowingly harboring someone who is known to have orchestrated attacks against the US, namely the embassies in Africa among others. The Afghan govt. has said they will defend Bin Laden. Bush said he will make no distinction between the people who commit that attacks and those who harbor the terrorists, so that probably tells you what may be coming. - - - -To subscribe/unsubscribe, email "majordomo@xmission.com" - -In the email body, write "subscribe canslim" or - -"unsubscribe canslim". I see this morning that Texas Instruments in far southwest Houston (actually Stafford TX) may have become a victim of the terror yesterday. Normally, there are 4 auto entrances to the property. During shift change, all 4 entrances are open to permit rapid entry/exit of vehicles. This morning, only one entrance is open and a security guard is screening all vechicles at the entrance to the property. What I do not know is if TI has received a specific threat against the facility or against the company in general. However, if there is no specific threat, then TI has been terrorized. My definition of terrorized is -- if you modify your behavior in response to a terrorist incident i.e. don't go to work, don't send the kids to school, refuse to take a business trip, cancel a vacation, then you have been terrorized. The terrorist has achieved his/her objective. I suspect that similar things may be going on at other locations in Houston, Texas, and the US in general. While we in Houston generally have a positive image of our town, much of the rest of the nation and the world, if they think of us at all, have negative images of Houston. To strike terror in our hearts, NYC, Wash DC, San Fran, LA, Chicago are all MUCH more effective targets. The landmarks of these cities are well known to all of us in the US, and for much of the rest of the world also. TV and movies have made this so. I was horrified to read the first part of your letter. I couldn't even get passed your Timothy McVeigh reference. How any thinking person could compare the two (foreign terrorisim exported to our shores and the kind of terrorism practiced by Timothy McVeigh and his ilk) is beyond me. The main difference is not just in lives and property lost, but in the strategy conceived and the tactics used. For example, one minor difference is that: MCVEIGH DID NOT BOMB A FOREIGN COUNTRY. When will US citizens get it into their heads that foreign terrorism against the US is not merely a criminal act-it is much more a wartime assault. Our mission should not be to bring the perpetrators to justice in a court of law, but rather to defeat and exterminate our wartime enemies-the terrorists, those who financially support them, and those who harbor them. jans In a message dated 9/12/2001 8:40:08 AM Eastern Daylight Time, fanus13@yahoo.com writes: << I am just as horrified by the events as everyone else and want nothing less than justice to the people who caused this.
