The 2 companies listed in the Auto/Trucks-Replacement Parts group with ATAC at investors.com (selling above $10), SMP and IMCO, don't have particularly attractive charts. ATAC sold it's general distribution group so it may not fit exactly with the Retail/Whlsale-Auto Parts (AZO and ORLY). But the retail/whlsale auto parts groups have been on fire lately(IBD rank=#2), so maybe this is what is "driving" this drive train parts supplier. It will be interesting to see how the 0% financing will affect these fix-it-yourself stores. I know I am considering getting rid of my used car and going with the 0% financing, primarily because of the increasing upkeep. Anyway, the ATAC chart looks to have broke out of a handle (that began on 9/28) on 10/11 from a short "V" base and was having a hard time moving up until the huge volume on Friday. Looks like the positive earnings news and 2002 outlook coupled with the AAMCO contract provided all the impetus it needed. Anyone know why the data is inconsistent?

e = 670
d =1299
c = 1595
b = 2957
a =  916

total = 7437

a + b = 3873

% a+b / total = 3873/7437 = 52%

That, along with the general A/D ranking for each market, each day at the top left of each graph, gives a nice "feel" for the tone of the market. For example, Monday's paper lists NASDAQ = B, S&P = B, DJIA = C+. That shows a marketed accumluation in overall large caps (S&P) and tech (NASDAQ) vs. the Dow's more "broad based" representation. Also today, the distribution is A 658 -19, B 2295 -1, C 1182 -13, D 913 +34, and E 359 + 10. When the market is really moving, you'll see the delta and get a sense whether overall prices are showing accumulation or distribution. Very helpful. At the bottom left of the Big Picture IBD = DJIA=20 graphs each day they list a cumulative A/D distribution for the = market. That,=20 along with the general A/D ranking for each market, each day at the = top left=20 of each graph, gives a nice "feel" for the tone of the market. For = example,=20 Monday's paper lists NASDAQ =3D B, S&P =3D B, DJIA =3D C+. That = shows a marketed=20 accumluation in overall large caps (S&P) and tech (NASDAQ) vs. the = Dow's=20 more "broad based" representation.

Also today, the distribution = is A=20 658 -19, B 2295 -1, C 1182 -13, D 913 +34, and E 359 + 10. When the = market is=20 really moving, you'll see the delta and get a sense whether overall = prices are=20 showing accumulation or distribution. Very=20 helpful.
