If you have older versions of Excel or use a Mac version, you will not be able to view them properly. If you do not have Excel, see http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/xlviewer.aspx for a free viewer. In order to make it to the list, the stock had to have a forward growth rate of at least 15%, Price at least 6, Avg Daily Vol at least 30K, RS at least 60, no more than 15% below the 50 day SMA, and at or above the 200 day SMA. This is what I consider to be "bare bones" requirements for CANSLIM quality stocks. (Note that if you follow stricter CANSLIM guidelines, you can use the autofilter feature in each column and view only Price>=$12 (or 15) and AvgVol>=100000.) Other information included is industry name (slightly different than DGO's names, but close), price, avg vol, and links to graphs and due diligence sites on the internet. I've also added a couple of special columns this month which show the relative outperformance of each stock. You'll find a column for the % change in price since the market low 10/10/02 and another column which shows the direction of the RS Line since the 10/10 market low. If the RS Line (RS compared to S&P500) has been going up since that date (indicating outperformance relative to the market), it is indicated with a "+". Be sure to note that there are 4 sheets in the workbook. The first sheet has the listed stocks; others include a list of stocks dropped from the list, a summary of stocks by sector, and a sheet with misc. links for free info on the web. If you'd like to look at last month's hunting list, you will find it at: http://www.cwhcharts.com/katherine/CANSLIMHunting122002.zip This month there are a substantial 511 names, up 35 names from the list I posted last month. This month, 122 names fell from the list, but only 146 names are new and 365 names are repeats. This is the best action I've seen in quite a while, as the number of stocks repeating from last month to this has risen substantially. In order to see a sustainable advance, we need to see more stocks becoming and then *staying* strong from one month to the next and there's certainly some evidence of that in the new hunting list. This is particularly important given that the markets have been moving through a correction (beginning 12/2) off the 10/10/02 market low. Recent follow fresh through days in all the major indices and the addition of more and more tech stocks are both good signs. I thought there were some interesting drops from the list this month including WTW, a new issue that has been doing very well since going public. On 1/7 it fell below its 200 day MA, causing it to drop off the list. Guess the run up was in *anticipation* of all those New Year's resolutions, but if the price action is any indication of people's stick-to-itiveness, I suppose they'll be dropping out of their new weight loss programs within the first couple of months this year! One item worth reviewing is the action in stocks such as this that have been very strong in the last year but are starting to show some wear and tear. Examples include APOL, COCO and JCOM (find these by filtering for stocks where the RSL line has been decreasing since the market low, "-" in the last column). Strong stocks such as this have been correcting while the rest of the market has been moving up--something worth noting in the grand scheme of a fairly rotational market. You *can* however, use the autofilter feature. Notice the small down arrows in the header row? I especially relish due diligence on stocks I've never seen previously, as they most often turn out to be undiscovered gems. I also noted its now sorted according to sectors... thx. Question... I cant believe im saying this but looking at the sectors that have performed well since the first, would you consider it time to look for some tech plays.. ? Some of my old favorites are starting to look interesting... Any suggestions?
