The Cure are a great musical band. There's no reason for someone who enjoys one to necessarily dislike the other. Unless that person considers, in at least some capacity, things like era, image, "in"ness, etc. when deciding, consciously or subconsciously, which bands they favor. In other words, if someone dislikes LZ because they can't get into their music, that's one thing. Considering mention of that band on a Cure list to be "blasphemous", however, is ludicrous. Porches I recall an interview in which Robert bashed Lol for hanging out with "wankers" (or some other derogatory term) who drive around in silver Porches. Greatest Hits Technically Staring at the Sea and Galore are singles collections as opposed to greatest hits. They contain only the singles released up until their respective points in time. Given that, there's no decision making in terms of what goes on the album, other than the initial decision to release a singles collection. A greatest hits on the other hand leaves room for interpretation. Hopefully, if this is going to happen it will be Robert's call as opposed to the record company's. Do you think we'd have Hanging Garden on SATS if the record company had anything to say about it? I'll confess my original "turn on" to The Cure was via SATS. Greatest hits albums are usually bollocks; record companies sucking down billboard's top 40 and shitting it out onto a cd ... big bloody deal. The reason Galore was a flop is because everyone who loves the cure HAS all the late stuff. Half of the brilliance of Standing/Staring is that the Cure broke big, and people who weren't aware of their early stuff could pick it up in one neat package. The other half of the brilliance is the b-side collection on the back of Standing... In fact, I named my cover band after one of those tracks... > > A greatest hits on the other hand leaves room for interpretation. > Hopefully, if this is going to happen it will be Robert's call as > opposed to the record company's.               It's not best of or greatest hits or singles collections = that I dislike, it's
the fact that the Cure have already = covered all the bases of the above types of =
releases by way of SATS and Galore. = I'd much rather have a new album in more =
time than another "greatest = hits" type thing that includes one new song, even
if it would be released sooner than a = full-fledged new album.
