Right? ____________ That is correct...on the 650 you have to go with the IMS....on the 350 it is not necessary....although it bolts up to an Acerbis just fine... Specifically, any particular problems with water or crud getting in? I'm just waiting for my needle, spring, & Unifilter to arrive and was just wondering. The Vortex sounds great, but I would rather put that money towards some suspension upgrades first. If, however, the Vortex is necessary, then I may as well get it now before carving up the stock airbox. Any thoughts? (actually, I've got the Cycle Gear magic air box - precursor to the Vortex.) It is very much susceptible to sucking in water if you ride in conditions that lend themselves to that. I occasionally do rides which include stream crossings with water up to two feet deep. If I continually hit the water such that the front wheel plows and spits liquid up into the engine/airbox area, I have been known to stall the bike to the point where I had to drain water out of the float bowl to get it going again. But this is not a big problem if you're just aware of it. I'm careful now to keep my weight back during water crossings so as to keep the airbox (and my boots) as dry as possible. And even then, it's not that often that I do water deep enough to matter. You're not going to have any problem at all in a simple rainstorm or in crossing water that is say one foot or less in depth. I also ran with a cut-out on my stock airbox before replacing it. I didn't notice any problems with water getting in the engine. Both the modified stock air box and the Vortex (especially!) will suck in lots more air than can fit through the stock snorkel. Therefore, you'll probably find that your filter gets dirtier faster. I run with a filter skin over my filter now so that I can just replace or remove the skin to enable me to got longer between cleanings. The Vortex box and the accompanying rejetting are well worth it. But then, good suspension is worth it too! I did my suspension first. I was surprised at how much more *useable* power I had after the mods. Once the rear end got reworked, the wheel spent a lot more time on the ground transmitting power rather than bouncing around like it did with the stock suspenders. After a decent off road excursion yesterday I spent nearly an hour scrubbing the baked mud off of the header. I do like a clean bike. I'm assuming there might be some sort of "engine degreaser" or the like out there.
