SEATS Pick up just about any DR test or hop-up article penned by the western press and you’ll see an extra tall, extra long Baja Products/Ceet saddle kit bolted on. I tried riding with one for over a year, but the extra height moves a large part of the center of gravity (you) too high and your perched so high that you can forget dabbing when the going gets tough. I can assure you that when 300 pounds of motorcycle leans over past it’s balance point the rascal is going down...hard! The dimensions of the stock seat are the best for eastern off-roading. As long as you’re constantly moving around, as you do off-road, comfort is not a problem. But hit a twenty mile road section and you’ll be begging for mercy from the vinyl covered torture device. At the very least, remove the foofy little buddy strap before it induces a terminal case of monkey butt. A couple of years ago, Mike Corbin and company introduced a funky looking seat that they claimed offered all day comfort. They were wrong! In just a few short miles, the average rider’s thighs will begin to cramp from fighting the exaggerated forward slant of the seat’s front section. To make matters worse, the thing is so wide that you have to adopt a bowlegged stance when standing and loose all sense of control on the trail. Fear not, there may be hope! For the DR350 there is a spandura cover model and an all vinyl cover model. I bought one with the all vinyl cover and it is so slippery I wish I had bought the spandura one. I think they are the same price, about $175. Mine feels much better than the stock seat, no more numb groin, and it should get better as it breaks in. It had 8.1k on the clock, appears to be stock and in xlnt condition. I subscribed to the list about a week ago (after buying the bike) and have found it to be very useful! The bike is mostly a joy to ride. I bought it primarily for fun in the dirt, but havn't had it in the dirt yet! . . . I'm having too much fun on the country/mountain roads and state highways!! The only negatives after a week (and 500 miles) of getting used to it are: 1.) The seat (Ouch!) 2.) Flairing similar to the KLR650 would be useful 3.) Somewhat heavy (not sure how it will handle in tight spots) 4.) 1st gear needs to be geared a little lower 5.) Difficult to find aftermarket stuff for the older dr 650's I'm curious . . . are there any more 94 dr 650's out there or has anyone owned one??
