Add "*70W" to the start of your dialing string... *70 tells the local phone company to disable call waiting for this one call only, and the W tells most modems to Wait for a dial tone before continuing the dialing. The baudrate your modem will be able to connect at will depend on the quality of your phone lines and the lines you happen to get between your location and xmission. 33.6 would require quality above and beyond the normal and I've never heard of anyone actually getting it. I have gotten higher than 28.8 on occasion however. Eudora encounters a time out message occassionally, as does other software - that does not mean it is the wrong version. Time Outs simply mean that the HOst (Xmission) did not acknowledge or fulfill a request from the client (your computer) soon enough. I receive at least one Time out message per day from Eudora, but yet still receive in excess of 100 emails per day. I also encounter pop lock errors periodically, and simply close Eudora for about 10 minutes and wait for the sweeper program on Xmission to clean it up. I can't tell if they are going out or not. The SMTP and POP server address should be xmission.xmission.com. mail.xmission.com is an alias, but you might as well use the actual address. Perhaps the alias is not working for you. You may also want to check your nameserver address(es) for your TCP/IP sofware. Outgoing message are kept in the "Out" mailbox. In Eudora, go to the Mailbox menu and select Out. Messages which have been sent will have an S in the first column. Messages which have not been sent (and are queued) will have a Q in the first column. >I looked at the network configuration box. it says check for mail >every 0 minutes. Also ph server is blank. Also, when trying to send: "Error This is an error you need to fix in the eudora setup. I use pegasus so I can't offer any help in that respect. > getting network address for mail.xmission.com. Cause: requested entry This error is very much sounding like a name server entry that is mucked up. the correct name server address is 206.26.97.2 primary (and if your socket will allow two 198.60.22.2 for secondary) This is set up in your socket (trumpet go to file menu, setup, fill in the blanks... quarterdeck goto location manager, location, setup, advanced, and fill in the blanks) > not found (11004)" Also, does Eudora keep a record of messages I > sent? I can't tell if they are going out or not. The error probably means that they are not getting out. There should be an out box (I am again not familure with eudora) which should have some kind of indicator that you sent a message. > > I looked at the network configuration box. it says check for mail > every 0 minutes. Also ph server is blank. Zero minutes sounds kind > of suspicious to me. Could that be a problem? 0 minutes means it will only check for mail when you tell it to. I usually set this value to 3 minutes, unless I am doing a lot of email which I am waiting for replies to when I use 30 seconds. I do not know what a ph server is that would be a question better answered by a person who knows eudora. > > Thanks for your help. > > > Police your children DON't allow the government to do it. Sorry I lack these fundamentals, but how do I upload to > xmission, from the xmission prompt or elsewhere, and with what command? The attachment needs to be uploaded to xmission only if you are using pine to send it. You must have the attachemtn on the machine you are doing mail from, thus if you use eudora the attachemnt needs to be on your machine. Then there is an option (if I remember correctly in the edit menu when sending a message) which allows you to browse your disk, and select the file(s) to be attached by clicking on them. I know that for pegasus (another mail program, and the one which I now use without problems for better than a year) there is a button to the side of the message being entered "attach" which allows me to select the file(s) to be sent along with the message in a very simple fashion. > > By the way a friend told me lwvut is in 2 places on the xmission > organizations page--and one link goes to Huntsman Chemical. Date: 28 Mar 1996 21:28:02 -0700 (MST) For at least the past two weeks I've had a lot of trouble accessing IRC. Most of the time I can't even connect with a server and when I do within 3 minutes I've become so lagged I end up being timed out. I've been using the 198.60.22.2 DNS number. I would really really appreciate it if someone would explain to me why this is happening and how to fix it. I ended up sending an email to support@xmission.com because this has been going on for over two weeks. There were two days last week when I actually logged on an IRC server and wasn't pinged out and one day this week. The problem isn't just dalnet, although dalnet seems worse than the undernet with how quickly the lag sets in. I'm using mIRC 3.92 on Win95. I am using the winsock that comes with win95. Although for some reason, Xmission thinks I'm running a Unix. How do I change that? Your input, opinions, suggestions etc would be very much appreciated. Is this why Xmission has been doing so much upgrading lately? Are you saying Xmission's software or the server's software? I'm assuming Xmissions because the people on the same server that I talk with online, aren't having the same problems. You should use the server that is closest to you.. in this case you should you dragon.dal.net for dalnet, irc.xmission.com (if it is still up) for EFNet, and you can just use your reglure undernet servers prety much. > day, although definitely it's not as extreme during the day. I have been on undernet almost daily. I have however been using the 206.26.97.2 name server. I have not tried any other nets (Dalnet, EFnet, etc.) but undernet has not even lagged me by more than 10 seconds MOST of the time. Police your children DON't allow the government to do it.
