From: Dean Bailey <102712.267@CompuServe.COM> Subject: internet mail to Microsoft Mail via NT Server Date: 06 May 1996 13:30:20 EDT I'm looking for ideas, methods on moving internet mail to Microsoft Mail and back by having an NT server dial the local internet provider (xmission) every few hours and moving mail up and down. I understand I need a UUCP or SNMP interface package. What are some packages available, pricing, vendors, etc., and how is it set up. In the case of wanting to grant access to a file to another user, or users, you have two possible choices, you can either have XMission create a group with you and the other user(s) as members, or you can play around with access control lists, which seem to be somewhat specific to Solaris 2.5. ( For more information on getting a group created, contact support, for information on access control lists, do "man setfacl" ) Ron -- Ron Lenk -- rlenk@lint.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Jason S Kohles Subject: Re: Permissions of other users. Ron Fish System Designs, Inc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: strawman Subject: Re: web page upload Date: 21 May 1996 16:04:17 -0600 (MDT) Here's what I know (pardon the verbose mode; it is intended for others :^) in your home directory, make a directory public_html, if it is not already there. make it world-readable and world-searchable with chmod go+rx public_html, if it isn't already. (read the onlin manual page about the ls command, in particular the -l (dash ell) option. The short way to say what I just said is, "see man ls".) people who go to http://www.xmission.com/~sysdes/ will see either a list of the files in that directory (presented as links), or if there exists a file with a certain name, they will see that file. The name index.html is that special name. (index.html could be a symbolic link to a file of another name if you wanted, see man ln if you want to do that.) make sure that files you want others to be able to view are world-readable, in the public_html directory you can do this by chmod go+r * . I believe that xmission's web server requires that your html pages have a certain group-ownership. see man chgrp for more info, but I think you can accomplish this by chgrp -h www * . if that doesn't work see also man chown. Hope this helps. If someone knows where in the online help a more authoritative rendition of this info might be found, tell help@xmission.com, and perhaps suggest to support@xmission.com that it get a more prominent listing. --strawman On Tue, 21 May 1996, System Designs, Inc. wrote: > Date: Tue, 21 May 1996 13:58:23 -0600 (MDT) > From: System Designs, Inc. > To: help@xmission.com > Cc: support@xmission.com > Subject: web page upload > > Hello! > > I have my html pages ready for upload to my directory. Thanks much.. This really depends on what mail program you use. You may want to submit this question to the help address again indicating which mail program you use. If you're using a shell-based program like Pine or Elm, then you may be able to simply create a text file in your home directory called '.signature' (dot signature) and compose your signature in there. -Fozz -- Doran L. Also I had someone at artsense@xmission.com say they have been trying to send me several e-mails and I haven't received any of them. I have been receiving mail from other people though.
