The whole "Blue Danube Orbital" song isn't on the Chill Out album, but the meat of it is. The constant choir vocals in the background on the minor triad, the birds and nature sounds, the chick going oh oh oh, and the cymbals that are used in the Blue Danube remix are all found in "3 A.M. Somewhere out of Beaumont." The "Blue Danube" waltz piece isn't in it, but they use the same ambient backgrounds in both Beaumont and Danube. So I assume that's what they're talking about, since you're right; that whole mix isn't on Chill Out. Hope that helped at all. I've only seen it on napster. Turn Up the strobe shows up as being some 13:25 minute song. When downloaded, I found it was just some ambient really angry sounding music with a bunch of TV samples. I figured, hey it's weird, it could be the KLF. But then I did some research on the samples and found out that they belonged to a US show called "God, the Devil and Bob." This show, besides only being run for about four episodes, was aired this year (2000, in case you don't check your mail for another month.). Weird as hell. Anyway, I talked to FordTimelord on Napster and he confirmed it's definitely not the KLF, but from some album by a remix studio called "the button." So why does everyone who has the song have it listed by the KLF? Probably a stupid question, but I'm confused, and I figured someone here could answer it. Because a large number of tracks floating about on Napster are incorrectly labeled by the clueless masses. I wish I had a dime for every novelty song incorrectly attributed to Weird Al Yankovic, or for every post in a newsgroup/mailing list saying "Hey, I download x track from Napster. I've never heard of it, is it unreleased?" The track is probably actually called "Turn Up the Strobe" but since this phrase is commonly known amongst KLF listeners someone assumed it was them and stuck their name on it. Then everyone looking for KLF stuff finds this, has no clue, and it spreads. -paul Currently in rotation: Fatboy Slim - Live Avalon Ballroom; McCartney - Milwaukee 06.02.93; Sparks - Live in London I will NEVER understand this decimal nonsense if I live to be C! # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "c-Row" Subject: Re: (klf) Re: Turn Up the Strobe Date: 03 Dec 2000 11:04:11 +0100 > Weird as hell. Well, I guess it's time to de-lurk, come clean and explain what this is. The actual title of the track is "God, the Devil and J.R. 'Bob' Dobbs part 9", taken from a three hour radio broadcast my "band", The Button, performed in May of this year. It originally was going to be uploaded to mp3.com, but they didn't seem to like all of the samples for some reason. The tracks then found their way to napster. Some time later, a friend of ours, the Evolution Control Committee developed the "napster bomb"(see http://www.evolution-control.com/culturejamming.html for details). In a similar spirit, our tracks were made available in "bomb" form. Knowing that Turn Up The Strobe is a KLF "Holy Grail" which few(if any) have heard, I decided that it was a great delivery vehicle for the "bomb". I'm surprised it's still circulating. I haven't been running napster very often in the last month or so. glacial23 http://www.pressthebutton.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I just listened to one of my old tracks that I found on Napster, and I reckon its alright, so much so I am gonna say get it if u can cos I'd like to know what some of you think. It was recorded about 7 yrs ago (ish) and the version i have altho it says its 160kbps doesnt sound like it really, but you can still hear the song fine and wil be able to give it some judgement. listening to it now I can see why a lot of the DJ release forms we got back said it reminded them of KLF, which I couildn't see/hear at the time, but took as a huge compliment.. Listening now I really hear their influence. Go on get Napster going and see what u think(if u can find it) its called '16 bit suicide' by Cranium HF, you can see how old it is with the reference to 16 bit! Hi It is quite well sought after, depending on your definition of rare, £20 to £25 was the going price for quite a while, although £33 for a mint-ex condition for these days may not be so bad. The police chief on the cover is James Anderton the head of Manchester police force who made the infamous comment, in the eighties, that AIDS was God's punishment on Gays etc for living a promiscuous lifestyle, hence the words SHAG, SHAG, SHAG on the cover. It's also an excellent record. Mike ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I actually have the cd this is ripped from. Superstar DJ Keoki "Disco Death Race 2000" from 1996. Keoki is a big (in the rave scene) DJ who has like a dozen continuous mix discs out. Yours happens to be track one on this particular cd. I like it the track; in fact I remember liking it when I got the disc (for like $2) a couple years ago. Had to re-edit the radio edit. mainly cos of the shortage of hdd space for avi editing. > > > Timewhores - Doctorin The Sheriff [38 MB] > > Really hard to describe. Stop reading now if you do not want the full story of the Chipping Norton Rave & Battersea billboard mpegs!!! After years of sitting on these two bits of archive footage I've decided to release them (with the aid of Marek as chief distributor). Both these pieces of archive footage come from my days at Appearing (see Scott Piering) and were intended as filler footage for The Word ( but were rejected ). I got hold of them because I was the only Appearing / KLF employee who had a VCR. So one morning off I went in a taxi to Trancentral in sunny south london with my nice new Toshiba VCR & a scart lead to connect it up to Jimmy's mate's camcorder so we could get it on VHS to send to the Word. After a tour & tea with Cress I went back to work 'cos the guy didn't turn up with his camera. A few days later I got my VCR back and the VHS cassettes. (A few weeks later I got the remote back as well!) The first mpeg is a 8 minute movie of a pre-success KLF performing live at a "secret rave" near Chipping Norton. (Funnily enough someone I know is on the tape - a guy who I used to work with at Rough Trade, James from telesales.) The important bit about this piece of film is it is actual documentation of the famous "dollar bill distribution" stunt. Any fan that's delved into the "prank-lore" of the KLF will have read about them throwing dollar bills from a tower during a live performance. Well this is it. Another point of interest is it's also rare rare footage of the KLF live! Something they did not do much - even in the early days! The second mpeg is again camcorder footage of one of the Billboard Defacements. from the same time as the 3AM re-release (remember the Radio 1 edit 7" without the machine gun intro). the film is taken after Bill & Jim were arrested (shame) and again was meant as a back drop for a Word music news item (Blah blah KLF stars arrested...) Although again he story was dropped. Both pieces were appeasement for the KLF not appearing live on the Word. (The Word was a late night Friday night music/youth chat show in the early 90s for all you non-UK residents) The boys swore to limit their "live" appearances to Top of The Pops, but the guy at the Word ( I don't remember his name) would always try & book them! I might get some shit for releasing these mpegs as I do not own them nor do I know the name of the guy that filmed them ( if you are out there hi). My only justification is it's such a long time after the event that they should fall into the public domain by virtue of being almost obsolete. Well if you've got this far I hope you enjoy them when Marek gets them out in the post (Hi marek ICQ me) If you can't wait contact me & I might be persuaded to let you have them on CDR! Date: 22 Dec 2000 00:19:59 -0500 Question on the White Room LP. Does anyone know the types of synthesizers and/or drum machines they used on the White Room LP? Either US or UK, the instruments are probably the same. It's not the 808 as far as I can tell, as the 808 has a much cheesier 80's sound, and I don't think it sounds hardcore-techno enough to be the 909. But I love the sounds they've gotten in that whole album. Is this all listed somewhere or does anyone have a clue? It'd be nice to put some of that equipment on the C-mas list. Also, I've heard there was a live performance of WTIL at some club that lasted 23 minutes before B & J started throwing the equipment into the audience. Was this particular version recorded? I'm a huge fan of extended mixes and this would pretty much cap them all off for length (as far as just one song goes). Anyone have a clue? Actually the 808, and 909 don't sound that much different when you compare them to how much you can change the sound with studio FX. Few artists will just play the instruments straight to tape, first the EQed, phased, and vocoded to heck and back to make the souund not like every other track that used the same stuff. The 808 sounds cheasy, but only when the Fat Boys, and Run DMC use it, people like KLF, and Depeche can wring all sorts of things from it. It'd be nice to put some of >that equipment on the C-mas list. The stuff KLF used was at the time "cheap" and unwanted by be electronic artists at the time. In the mid-late 80s everyone would just buy new digital (untweakable) stuff every week, and the 808 with a meer 16 sounds wasn't too popular. Now it is a different story. Hello all!

I was just watching a TV program called "snow magazine". It's a Dutch program about snow etc.... There was a part about blowing up lotsa snow to create avalanche
Yes, 3 a m eternal.
Funny, ain't it? I have never heard klf themes used for TV programs.
For the dutch listmembers:  The movie "Zusje" uses some ambient tunes during a party which she is throwing.
I thought I heard that Tibetan voice from Chill Out but i can be wrong.

A quick net search for a combination of "Merrick Road" and "Wantaugh" reveals a few non-KLF-related pages which also place the road and the location in Nassau county. The one thing that's always puzzled me is exactly what Jack's surname is. Most sources use the spelling "Acksadapo" but this doesn't sound quite right to me. Did this come from a legit and verifiable source? Or did someone take a stab at it and has it become enshrined in legend? Aksedakos (or however it is spelled) also makes this seem to be NY because it looks like a greek surname and Nassau county is right next to Queens in NYC, which has a large greek community in a neighborhood called Astoria.
